This is a wonderful neighborhood bistro. I have been a customer of the restaurant for long (more than a decade). Their menus are good authentic French. Quality of their food was kept up well after all these years. It's hard to come by these days.
It was pretty comical that the waiter did not know what "moules" are, one of their key menu items. He also insisted that they always have them, once he understood they were mussels. It's not true, as they have been sold out of them. The food is tasty and the outdoor seating is really nice.
Great food and atmosphere for a spontaneous date night
Service was attentive, but the food was not salvageable. The beef bourguignon was dry, mussels had a strong dead fishy stench, escargots were lacking taste.
We have been coming to Pastis for years ( pre-COVID) for brunch and always enjoy it.
Our friends had not been there before.
Each couple split an appetizer or Escargot. We enjoyed it immensely. The bread served with meals is delicious and is perfect for soaking up the garlic butter!
For entrees we had Moules and the Sole. The Moules were fine, but the Sole was over cooked. In future I would request they not over cook any fish.
The service was as we expect in these days of over extended servers. He was quite pleasant and was doing the best he could for a busy Friday night.
We will definitely return, but probably for brunch.
We dined here in the summer to get together with another couple. We sat outdoors (COVID accommodations) to maximize the air flow. Service was friendly but unmasked. Cocktails had too much ice, but the wine selection entailed a generous pour. The food was okay but disappointing in that the online menu and the one available was strikingly different. However, I fully understand that this is the new challenge of managing in the time of COVID.
Ordered the flank steak plate and it was way over cooked and dry and chewy; vegetables were mushy, and mashed potatoes tasteless. The $17 salad was 90 o/o greens with 4 small goat cheese rounds on non-crispy toasted baguettes. Sorry , but very disappointed!
The food was overcooked.
The food is consistently excellent at Pastis. Always perfect lettuce. Just the right amount of salad dressing. Potatoes roasted to perfection. Food always hot and seasoned just right.
The service is attentive without being hovering.
It's my favorite place for lunch.
casual outdoor, but elegant french food. large patio area, tables well separated
Very friendly and attentive staff. Nice atmosphere. Food presentation timely and exceptional.
Very good bistro fare. Not fancy but exactly what you expect. Service is efficient and brisk. Outdoor dining is vey comfortable.
Disappointed that their free corkage has been discontinued. But I do understand that Covid has been very very hard on the bottom line of restaurants. Service needs improvement but the staff was challenged by numbers of customers and servicing diners outside.
Bistro Pastis used to be very good, but I will not go here again after last night's experience.
Pastis has a standard menu that is excellent. Their specials are also superb and I highly recommend that they be considered when you dine at Pastis.
Sun needs to be mitigated on outside. Tables The tables on the street many are Slanted wood chairs are uncomfortable. Staff is very good. Food is good but a little expensive for the Menu is somewhat limited. Overall we do like the people and
The setting. Just some thoughts. Thank you
Too busy waiters. Forgot to bring one of 2 desserts, never looked at us waiting for the bill. They had to rush around between inside and outside customers. Pretty pricey for feeling forgotten in an inside table. Got noisy as time went on, we began at 6:40 but by 8 the drinker clients inside got too noisy. Very hard to get waiter attention, no water glass refill the entire time.
Food so good, yum, but..... I would not be sure if I would actually recommend it.
Beef bourguignon was tough. That or the potatoes caused some intestinal distress later
My family and I spent a great time for my 40y old.
Great food, great service!
Service was very good but the food was poor. Disappointed with every dish we had - escargot, mussels, duck. Lack of flavors was really apparent. Will not be returning
We have always had great experiences here in the past, but went tonight for my birthday and were very disappointed with the food. Broth in the onion soup was so watery and bland that we had to ask for salt, courses came out one in top of the other so we felt rushed, all our main courses came out lukewarm at best, my ribeye was mostly fat and my sister’s duck very overcooked. On the plus side, the servers were very nice and the dessert sampler they brought to the table for my birthday was lovely and the desserts (flourless chocolate cake, tiramisu and creme brûlée) were delicious. May have just been an off night.
Good was not as good!
Not impressed with the food.
Very enjoyable. Our meals were well prepared and we enjoyed ourselves very much. We will be back.
Excellent food and service. Dining rom was spacious and elegant. Will definitely return.
Menu looked like it would be great but actually a huge disappointment. My salad Nicoise was unlike anything I have ever received...no seasonings and although the tuna was tasty the presentation was not at all pleasing and merely looked like a boring clump of lettuce with tuna on top. Onion soup was bland...My husband got the lamb shank which he said was ok but definitely not worth the money we spent to be in a restaurant with absolutely no atmosphere...I will not be returning ever again....
Not sure if it is due to Covid, but the food was only acceptable… Not as good as it has been in the past. Service was excellent. Wine was really good. Desert was OK. Just no longer a good value. Great place at half the price, but given the substandard taste of the food not worth it at this price.
fish was great, chicken tough, use to be better.
Always friendly hosts, good food and a fine time.
We love Pastis....It is one of our favorite restaurants.
Great spot during Covid, lots of space and great menu for lunch/brunch. Service was friendly and efficient. Would definitely come again.
We had reservationS for 4 and were seated immediately. The service was excellent and the food delicious. The menu is varied with selections that met all 4 palates. The waiter suggested a white wine that we all enjoyed even though 2 of us favor red wines. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their selection. The onion soup is very good. Portions are plenty. Dont miss the desserts. We look forward to returning.
Food could be better
The restaurant has changed ownership, and it shows. One of the benefits of this restaurant was the no corkage fee and that is gone. Just another average bistro now.
Party of four. Three people had the mustard mussels and loved them. I had the ground beef with mashed potatoes and cheese on top. So good. Had the salad with goat cheese and everyone loved it. Also the calamari made with rice flour was delicious. Always have a nice meal at Pastis.
I've been here twice, now, and both times everything was very, very good. This time I had their quiche which was delicious, but a bit large for me, so I shared. My friend found it really good as well. Their side salad was excellent - very lightly dressed with a vinaigrette that was just right, not too much vinegar. Others in the group had the croissant and eggs, which they all agreed was delicious. My tarte tatin was delicious, and beautifully presented, so much so that I actually too a picture!
If you're in the area of California Avenue in Palo Alto, this is a place you should try.
The recipes are the same as before the restaurant was sold, but somehow the food is not the same. It seems more like the food at a high end cafeteria. Good, but not great.
Understaffed for Valentines day. Had to ask three times when we wanted a glass of wine. Vegetables were cold when they arrived.
Valentine prix fixe menu was tasty with varied choices. Service was better than expected.
It was a pleasant experience. The owner is really nice. Would recommend this place.
