Good food, however upon being seated we were seated in an area without heat, I asked the owner to provide more heat or move us to another table, there was another table of two leaving and they were directly under a heat lamp, the owner asked me to wait, I expressed my desire to sit there, he explained it was a four top so we went about ordering at the cold table, not one minute later he seats a party of two at that very table! We had to take our food to go since they were so unaccomodating.
Food was great and the owner is fantastic! I will come back again.
Ambiance got lower stars only for mandatory outdoor dining not their fault, super cute cottage inside. Customer service on point so friendly and made sure you were taken care of from start to finish! Food was delicious then desserts galore to choose from in patisserie cabinet/ refrigerator
Worst experience at this restaurant ever. Outside seating was cold, no heaters, and very dim. Duck was bland and a bit rubbery. Pasta was OK. Very disappointed.
Delicious food and friendly atmosphere admits Covid 19 dining out side. I especially loved how piping hot the food arrived and presentation was nice, overall, a delightful night out in Carmel!
Given COVID we didn't experience the full benefits of dining at thus beautiful establishment but the outdoor seating and overall environment still lent for an amazing dinner with incredible food.
The French Onion Soup was fantastic. The service was great.
Ambiance and service was good. Very friendly servers. Unfortunately the food we ordered (Duck Confit) was dry and not crispy at all. Maybe other food in the menu may taste better.
Dinner was delicious under the stars in Carmel....Service was great although the tables need better lighting. Very dark and hard to see at 8.
Half crispy duck was delicious! .
Food and wine selection is very good and the preparation and presentation was excellent. I deducted a star or two because the tables are outdoors on a busy street that is slightly sloped so be careful the wine bottle doesn’t slide off the table. The city of Carmel should close these streets with outdoor sitting to traffic.
We had an amazing dinner here! Everything was outstanding, from the moment we sat down. Wonderful tapenade and bread, a great appetizer. My husband had the lamb shank and was blown away. I had the phyllo triangle with vegetables and feta, SO GOOD! The owner was super friendly and we had a lovely chat with him. This restaurant is a gem in Carmel!
Wonderful food in a safe and charming outdoor setting. The service was top notch and the food was delicious! Strongly recommend.
Lovely quaint French bistro. Because of Covid we dined outside. Service and food were great, menu had lots of options.
Decent food.
We had a wonderful time celebrating 48 years married. The beef bouillogne and French onion soup were outstanding. The desserts are to die for.
Wonderful food and service. This is by far my favorite place to eat in California!
Food and service were both excellent. Desserts especially noteworthy. Wine list a bit limited. Will definitely return.
Al fresco dining in Covid 19 times is generally poor, as restaurants already strapped for cash tend to not want to invest a lot of money in temporary seating. We had made reservations a few days in advance of a holiday weekend, expecting everything to be fully booked. We arrive a little early for our reservation but were seated anyway, which was great. The service was prompt and attentive and we learned our server had worked there for 22 years! We ordered an appetizer (stuffed mushrooms) and a bottle of house white, both of which were fabulous. The owner came by to open the bottle and was seen chatting with customers and generally making sure everyone was having a good time. I cannot say how good it is to see such a hands on owner who obviously cares for the customer. We ordered for entree beef bourgeon, the duck, and turkey, all of which were delicious. The food quality was superb and the portions were so generous that we were not able to have dessert. In these trying times it is rare to be able to eat out and is a very special treat when the food, service, and ambiance are all top notch. Next time we are in Carmel we will definitely make this one of our dining choices.
The food was great!
It was very nice. We were seated outside next to the flowers which was really great because it was so pretty. The food is always great no matter what I get. It is one of my favorite restaurants.
Ate there for dinner and then lunch. Excellent onion soup.... duck was good but not 5 stars. Salmon just ok. The roast beef sandwich was a great lunch choice. Staff was terrific. Certainly a recommendation.
The restaurant has done a good job of improvising due to Covid-19 staff was very friendly food was very good deserts are out of this world.
We really appreciate the comments about our servers....they are doing a fantastik job!!! Thank you!
They canceled my reservation after they seated us. I was awarded points and then they were taken away, I was notified via email. I mentioned it to the server but was told “there was nothing they could do” which is untrue! I sent a message to open table. Not okay to do to people.
Excellent food and service. Due to COVID-19 only outdoor dining was allowed but the restaurant handled the challenge beautifully
Will definitely go back
This was our first visit to this restaurant. The food was excellent. The service was outstanding.
We were able to enjoy a leisurely dinner. I would definitely go back again
It is a small intimate setting which appears to be an old home converted to a restaurant. When you first enter, you see a counter with many specialty desserts on display. The food was excellent and the people were friendly.
We had an outstanding meal. The service was impeccable. My husband had the roast duck which he pronounced as the best duck he ever ate in his life. I started with the French onion soup which was very authentic and delicious. My main course was the bouef bourginon which was tender and very tasty with mushrooms and pearl onions in a rich wine sauce. For dessert, we got to choose from the pastry case at the entry to the restaurant. We will definitely return to this restaurant on our next trip to Carmel by the Sea.
Well executed classic French dishes. Desserts are superb
Excellent restaurant. We were given a prime table for four in front of the fireplace. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We would return during our next trip to Carmel.
Very pleasant experience. The place is cozy and quiet. We are pleased with the service, attentive and professional. Their onion soup is wonderful and all dishes were pretty good. When we got to the sweetest part of our dinner - desserts, after 8 p.m, the selection of desserts was very limited so we couldn’t order what we really wanted. However, the overall impression is very nice and we definitely recommend this restaurant.
Having read other reviews of this restaurant we were expecting an elegant French dinner, and were shockingly disappointed with the food. Strange menu which featured dinner options like chicken pot pie, shepherd's pie, and quiche, not what one expects from a fine dining menu. Our choice was roasted half duck served over orange apricot brandy sauce. The sauce was thick and gloppy and tasted like a jar of orange marmalade. The duck was nice and crispy on the outside, but stringy and overcooked inside. The delmonico potatoes were tasteless and served over some sad bits of vegetables. I can't understand how anyone would rate this food highly.
From the very beginning of entering this restaurant, the experience was pleasurable. First you have to walk by a gauntlet of incredible pastries that see you up for the delights ahead. We were seated at a table near a garden window, there was a fireplace burning and the whole atmosphere was warm, inviting cozy. I had a fabulous rendition of duck served with apricots, my husband had the beef Bourgogne, and our guest had the shrimp and scallops cassoulet. Each dish was cooked and prepared and presented as it should be. My husband said the Bourgogne was exceptional. Then we got to go back to the pastries and select our dessert. It was a tough choice but we selected the coconut cream pie and the pot of chocolate which we shared. Just a warning, at Otis restaurant it is imperative that you save room for the dessert. The pot of chocolate was an incredible chocolate experience.. Bon Appetite.
Best French Onion Soup for miles!!!
Excellent in all respects. Food would have received 5 stars, but for the bread - it lacked the crispy crust and consistency of a true baguette. It was the only item that wasn’t close to perfect.
The restaurant is in a great old house. You get the feeling of eating in the French countryside. The service is excellent and the food does not disappointment. The braised turkey leg is fantastic and the wine selections compliment the food nicely.
Fabulous place, food was absolutely delicious and everyone there was delightful and super nice and kind to us on our anniversary. Best restaurant in Carmel in my honest opinion.
We enjoyed our experience. We go to Carmel often and have never tried this restaurant. It will definitely be on our list to return to. The dining room is quaint and we were able to sit right in front of the cozy fireplace. Service was attentive and friendly. Food and wine were also good. We had the Pasta Bolognese that had such a tasty sauce, and the best Beef Bourguignon which was hot and steamy. They did not disappoint on dessert either!
This was a special evening for me and my family. I have been to Patisserie since 1978, and in all that time it never disappoints. I always look forward to looking at all the desserts in the display. My children have continued with that tradition. I want to send out a special thank you to the owner, who was very gracious to us and gifted me with a beautiful pastry for my birthday. The Grande Dame of Carmel by the Sea is our favourite, especially at Christmastime.
We have been here many times and haven't had a bad meal. This time, the salmon cooked in parchment was pretty bad. The salmon was overcooked....hard really, and had a very fishy taste. The vegetables weren't seasoned and the saffron rice was tasteless. We told the manager who comped us a dessert, which was appreciated. We will give it another try, but for now, maybe avoid the salmon.
