Excellent food and service!
Our waiter didn’t check on us frequently. Once we ordered our wine it took 20 minutes for the first bottle to arrive. Later once most of our dinner was eaten we waited 20 mins again for him to come so we could order a second bottle.
The waiter did not put in our pasta order, we ordered all the food at once saying he would pace it out. However the charcuterie board came out in the middle - suppose to come first. Disappointed, been here several times and this was truly the worse experience.
Our original plans were to eat/drink at a place around the corner. Unfortunately, we discovered that this particular place no longer had table service. You order from the counter and then find somewhere to sit. No thanks.... We agreed this was not what we were up for.
I popped onto Opentable and saw there was a table for 3 available at Pausa and I snagged it.
The food was, as always, delicious and creative. The wine list is vast. The service was perfect. The one thing that makes me think twice about dining here is the noise level.
Given we're still stuck in this never-ending Pandemic (get your shot!), I was hoping it would not be a crowded space and the noise level would be better accordingly. I was wrong. It was crowded and the noise was loud. :( Not nearly as bad as pre-covid but still bad.
The food, wine and service made up for the noise but is unfortunate it still exists. I wish we had been able to sit outside and escape the noise but that wasn't an option for us. Next time I will make sure we sit outside because the food is worth being a little chilly...
While the food was tasty, the options were limited. It was quite loud with the background music, and our server a bit pushy. In general, the food was good but overrated.
Everything was incredible!!!!! The food, the drinks, the ambiance, and the staff. All fantastic and can't wait to go back!
We sat outside and would have preferred inside but it was full. Outside was noisy with street noisy and cold but we had a heater next to us.
The food was fabulous and we can’t wait to go back again and next time we’ll sit inside
We were very happy with our experience! Our waiter took very good care of us and never rushed us. The only disappointment we had was with our order of burrata. The size of the burrata was much smaller than any of us expected. There were 5 of us sharing a small portion. I will say though the dish was still delicious. While the prices might seem high they still provide high quality food that’s worth it.
From making the reservation to the greeting from the people in front to our server they made my Birthday a very special dinner. The drinks, appetizers, main course and dessert were all amazing. Thank you all!
We ordered the risotto and the presentation did not make the dish look appealing.
Service seemed unauthentic. More of a sales pitch than service
All I can comment is everything was 🌟 🌟 🌟🌟🌟
First time at Pausa and it was wonderful! Staff and service were excellent - welcoming, friendly, well informed and attentive. We shared a charcuterie platter and my only criticism would be it was very sparse for 4 people to share. We had pate, salami, semi hard cheese and a goat cheese served with beautiful breads, truffle honey, jam, and duck fat, rich and delectable. We also shared the burrata appetizer, which was phenomenal. My entree was the sous vide wagu and it was sensational. I will return for the burrata and wagu soon before the menu changes. Two of my dining companions had the pork chops (huge) and one had the orraciete, all enjoyed. The panna cotta for dessert was amazing, refreshing and the perfect end to a fabulous meal. I look forward to coming back soon!
Great meal and great food!
Good is always outstanding! Ever single item!
Background music is too loud
Music is not Itaian.
A little loud
We sat at the bar. The staff was fantastic and we had a great time. The food was delicious as well.
Amazing meal! The pizzas are incredible and we loved the duck egg pappardelle, too. The staff was very inviting, knowledgeable and friendly. We wish we lived a bit closer by so we could be regulars here. :)
Best pizza, great service, cocktails are delicious
Perfect for friends get together or family outing. Vibrant atmosphere and nice music
Went for my mom’s birthday. They personalized the menus with a Happy Birthday message. My mom is in a wheelchair and they had chosen a lovely table and already removed the regular chair for easy entry. The service was excellent throughout the meal and the food was all outstanding.
Great menu. Fun drinks. Ate inside but with fewer table jammed in than before Covid it felt ok
The outside parklet and sidewalk dining is great
We enjoyed our food and the atmosphere. It was a pretty packed Wednesday night. However, the service was somewhat slow.
Pausa is one of the best restaurants in San Mateo. You can always expect to get an amazing experience. The food is exciting, unique and cooked to perfection. My husband and I have been coming here since they opened and are always impressed with the food and service. It's our go-to for special occasions. Could not recommend them enough.
Highly recommended delicious food and good hospitality 🙏
Great find! Fantastic fresh-made food and very knowledgeable server, who spoke highly of the owners as well. All four of us were happy with our meals -- salsiccia pizza, rigatoni with sausage ragu, goat ricotta gnocchi with pea puree, salad with peaches. Good size portions, no room for dessert. Reasonable prices. Only negative is the busy street near the train which is noisy when sitting outside -- nothing the restaurant can do about that. Parking lot is right next door, a plus. Will definitely return!
What a delicious evening in a beautiful space. Check out this menu! Talk about a great staff and amazing fare! Loved every sip and bite!
Pausa is really the best go-to Italian in San Mateo. We love it. However, because of “Covid”, Pausa has stipulated a 2-hour time allotment for dinner. It was difficult to keep our meal within two hours because the service was SO SLOW!!!!!!!! Also, when salads are ordered they should be brought out BEFORE the main meal. Everything we ordered was brought out at the same time. So the pizza got cold while we were eating salads. Not impressed.
Everything we had was delicious and I appreciated that our server recommended various items. We had the arancini, pork belly appetizer, tomato salad, hamachi crudo, fichi pizza and sheep's milk gnocchi. Everything was fresh, the flavor were unique from dish to dish and everything was perfectly prepared!
Consistently fabulous! Wonderful chef, owner, ambiance and service.
Great food in a lovely ambience. Brings you right into Italy
Bday dinner there was spectacular as always. I’ve been having my bday dinner here the last 3 years in a row!
Was very expensive for what you get. Was very funky flavors. Left my plate barley touched. The drinks were good.
We always enjoy our experience at Pausa. Would recommend!
One of the best restaurants on the Peninsula. Can not recommend enough.
Wonderful surprise for my guests!!
I was a first time customer and will definitely return. Risotto was fantastic and the dinner salad delicious. A lot of unique flavors and ingredients. Outstanding service.
Definitely a MUST TRY!!!!!
The service and food were exceptional. We will definitely return.
The homemade salumi, pasta and pizza are wonderful. The salad was way over-dressed and the fish was dry.
Delicious cocktails and food. We love their spritzes (Proibito is our favorite), their charcuterie (the meats are house-cured) and pastas. Pizza is always a hit. The service was exceptional - befitting a fine dining establishment. A reliable date night locale.
Great food and service. Go early.
