Pialligo Estate Garden Pavilion
nice food, good service will be back.
Only issue was chef wouldn't cut up our shared duck dish when requested. Offered us a knife to do it ourselves. Pretty poor form on behalf of the chef. No way a reflection on the wait staff. They were fantastic.
Lovely evening with great food and wine. Service was also excellent
Food was overly reduced and way too salty the pasta was lovely. If u have wavy beef, mincing it seems wrong and reducing it to all u can taste is salt and over powering tomato flavour is disappointing.
Bread we had ordered came out with our mains.
Lamb was quite dry
High quality, interesting food choices, attentive staff.
Our waitress did not seem to be confident regarding her knowledge of food or wine but she was polite and attentive.
The location is beautiful however the food was average which is unusual for this restaurant. We had the duck and beef cheeks, both were cooked to perfection but the beef cheeks were flavourless and hadn’t even been seasoned. The duck was delicious but the accompanying salad was so salty it was barely edible. We would still come back and try again because we know the food is usually great.
We had made a booking for 2 people. We were shown to our table at the back of the restaurant (without any views of anything - only a stainless steel food holder sitting in the corner) after a 5 mins wait. The young male waiter was friendly, helpful and engaging - he couldn't be faulted, however he was run off his feet and didn't have time to follow up service adequately. The restaurant was very busy, without enough staff to cater and provide good service. The food was good, plentiful and tasty but not outstanding. It looked like the restaurant mainly catered for hens parties, large groups and tours with some rooms for private functions. We had been recommenced to attend this restaurant, however, it didn't live up to the hype, unfortunately.
Great place to go for a Friday lunch with someone special.
Was VERY disappointed my booking not expected by staff. I had rung and received phone confirmation and booked online and had email confirmation. Why were we not expected??
Food and service excellent
Food was delicious and hot right to the end. Was a bit noisy due to workmen just outside. Would be lovely for dinner
The food was great at Pialligo on Sunday for father’s day, however we had many issues with the service. We ordered four coffees initially and they all came out cold and took far too long (when we were onto our second course). We asked for 2 to be remade and they were, however one was not made with skim milk so it had to be remade again. When the two coffees came back again, the milk was burnt and had a weak coffee taste.
After our last meal, my father and I ordered another two coffees. These came out to us completely cold again. We asked for them to remake them and when they came back, one of them was not skim milk as I had requested. These mistakes happened far too many times and it should have been something so simple. We were not offered any discounts on our coffees which was also disappointing. The staff were very blasé about it all and while they did apologise, they continued to make the same mistakes.
I love Pialligo estate, however I’m not sure if I will go back there. The last time I went I also had a bad experience with service. My poached eggs were completely hard boiled and cold. It’s very unfortunate but I am not willing to pay $35-$45 per person for below average service.
CONS: Our booking was made for 2.00 pm but our table was not made ready until 2.20pm. There were long waits between courses (our table opted for the 3 course set menu) and one of the mains was sent back to kitchen due to the fish being raw. Drink service was slow, waited almost 40 minutes for everyone on the table to receive their drink. Unsure if the slow service was due to being sat away from the main seating area. In the instances that we did receive service, our waitress was polite and accommodating. The long wait times were, however, quite disappointing. Our group of 5 was prepared to have a long and leisurely lunch but the 1 hour wait between entrees and mains was ridiculous. At that point in the afternoon (3-4pm) there were not enough patrons for the kitchen to be sending dishes out at such a sluggish pace.
PROS: The view from the garden pavilion was beautiful and would be prefect for a nice afternoon out with friends and family. Wine list is extensive and there is an option for everyone. Charcuterie board was delightful, their in house produce is wonderful.
Excellent Food and Excellent Service - Highly recommended
Service wasn’t the best, walked in the lady complained saying we are 10 minutes late. The food was poor quality and not worth the money.
Really nice setting. Good food and drinks choices. Quality food and presentation. Suitable for more casual dining or for special occasion. Suitable for small or larger numbers. Will return!
Great drinks, food, service and vibe! Certainly coming back!
A really beautiful place to sit with friends enjoying good food. Our waitress was very attentive, No problem with a few changed minds over menu items, & she did warn us our meals would take a bit longer since 3 were from the lunch menu & 1 was from the brunch menu. We were having a ‘Ladies lunch’ before our Rutherglen experience on site at 2 pm so did not mind taking our time over the meal (we had allowed 2 hours, booking at 12). However. A coffee did not arrive until an hour after it was ordered (after reminding) & although we were well prepared for the wait for our first course, the 2nd course of the 2 set menus came far too much later (it was more than 40 minutes after the first).
We all appreciated that it was busy & were fully prepared to have a wait for the first course (mine was the meusli) but it was much too long to the two 2nd courses (mine was ham benedict which was delicious) as we were no longer hungry after the 1st course & then waiting again.
I will go back as the food was really delicious, & it’s a beautiful place to sit. I just hope they can improve the wait time for the food.
Everything was amazing bar the temperature. Wore a long sleeve shirt which was a very bad choice. Was sweating on my seat. So temperature control is the only thing I would change.
The whole experience was exceptional. We are looking forward to returning soon.
I treated my partner to his birthday lunch here and my was it beautiful! A great setting, friendly service and beautiful food. Together we had a steak and barramundi and both were cooked to perfection. A little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for, and here we had beautiful wine and food, so we were happy to treat ourselves. Recommend to others for those special occasions.
The food was amazing and excellent service. It was a tad hot in the pavilion we were in, the main one I guess, but otherwise cannot fault it. Will be back!
The service is was left our experience at an all time low.
Very slow, particularly with our drinks - it took 1/2 an hour for our wine to come to us.
It would be difficult to recommend this establishment, wait staff did not like to make eye contact.
When we asked for the bill, we were told just to present to the bar, which we did, and then it took another 5 minutes to establish where we had been sitting.
Absolutely sensational food, service and atmosphere. Thanks and see you next time.
An excellent venue for a sunny day. The outlook is one of the very best in Canberra. Somewhat of a surprise for Canberra is that the staff are very well trained, attentive when needed but mostly unobtrusive. Food selection is somewhat restricted but we had no difficulty finding items to choose. Wine is reasonably priced for Canberra. Do not be fooled by the label on Pialligo Regional Pinot Grigio, it is made in the Pinot Gris style and one of the nicest I have tasted.
HI Gary - Thank you for taking the time to provide some feedback - we really appreciate it and glad that you enjoyed your day. We'll keep some Pinot on ice for your next visit. Shane
Beautiful food, great service and lovely ambience!
HI Lynn, Thank you so much for the great feedback. We really appreciate you taking the time. We hope to see you again soon. Shane
Service was brilliant. The sitting area was lovely. Pancakes we had were very delicious. But the coffee was cold, which I hate, and so were the eggs. But I still think it’s pretty good value for a place as nice as this.
HI Michelle - Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such lovely feedback! Apologies for the coffee well make sure its piping hot on your next visit! See you soon. Shane
Great service and food was delicious. What a beautiful setting inside the Garden Pavilion. It would be the perfect setting for our rustic wedding if only it was affordable.
Hi Jesamine, Thank you for taking the time to provide such lovely feedback. We hope you'll be back in for lunch or dinner soon. Shane.
Exquisite food. Set's the bench mark for Canberra cuisine. A fabulous, innovative menu for a small intimate couple to large numbers dining.
Hi Susan! Thank you so much for your kind words - we really appreciate you taking the time to provide the feedback. We look forward to seeing you again - Shane.
The service wasn’t as good as it should be. We waited about 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive, which included water.
The cous cous served with the lamb wasn’t very nice in that it was quite hard and dried out. It was beyond al’dente. We mentioned it to the server and then replaced it with sweet potato, which was slightly undercooked.
Other than that we enjoyed our meal. My family came from New York so we could celebrate and basically enjoyed the time in the restaurant.
My husband and I would come back again.
Also the vegan options for main course wasn’t very good didn’t seem to be any. Only choice of vegetarian was pasta with cheese and mushrooms.
We celebrated a birthday with one of our friends. We all had the three courses. The food was amazing and we would all return there again.
Thank you for making it such a memorable time for us all.
An enjoyable evening. Great food and wine in relaxed lux. Knowledgeable, helpful staff. Will certainly be back soon.
We had the lovely brunch set menu , it was a very decent serving size . I had the pancakes for the first course which was delicious . Very high quality and perfect serving size as it wasn’t too much but just hit the spot . The pancakes were nice and fluffly and it was very well presented . For the second course I chose the big breakfast and that came with poached eggs , roasted tomato , spinach , mushroom , baked beans , a sausage on sour dough bread I believe . Very tasty ! Again amazing serving size and food was delicious . The brunch set menu is great value for money as it also comes with a coffee of your choice .
The staff was very accommodating and the view was magnificent .
I really recommend this place for brunch :)
On arrival our greeting did not make us feel welcome. We were not impressed by the 'greens' side dish; there was no variety and we requested no XO sauce but this was ignored. On leaving we were not asked about our experience nor were we thanked. Overall it was underwhelming.
We've previously dined at Pialligo, a few years ago, and were looking forward to another visit; very disappointed. Drafty, cold seating!. My pasta was luke-warm - appeared to have been sitting out for a bit before serving - and not properly cooked either. I was offered another serve in order to avoid a bad experience - too late! But they happily took all the money. Avoid recommendations only.
Food was average though it tries to present as five star! Over salty calamari - couldn’t eat it , no flavour of beef cheeks and presented with polenta slush which wasn’t appealing and baked ganache which was inedible - untouched but one small taste- floury and grainy ! Despite all the returns plates of food - not one question from wait staff about whether the mean was satisfactory ! Which it wasn’t - so we paid for the meal which was a very expensive for sub quality food
Absolutely fantastic food and attentive service that wasn't overbearing. Our waiter explained everything on the menu very clearly. The ambience was lovely, they had an incredibly talented live musician but didn't have him too loud.
100% the best meal my partner and I have had in Canberra
From the greeting as we walked through the door, through to the exceptional service and delicious food, Pialligo Estate is a favourite dining destination. The Pialligo Charcuterie is an excellent way to sample all of the Estate's renowned smoked and cured products and when paired with a sampling of small plates makes for delicious lunchtime dining. Highly recommended.
The staff were not very friendly and the quality of food was average.
Celebrating my son's graduation, we arrived for our booking at 1.30. We ordered food and drinks however, it was 50 minutes before a drink arrived on our table. The mains too were incredibly slow and the service was non existent. Finally, the manager( I assume ) came over , apologised and offered a glass of wine to everyone. Whilst the food was very god, the extremely slow service for food, wine and even when trying to pay, would make me hesitant to recommend.
