Was a b. day dinner with 6 peops. Was a great experiene and loved our wait perso(she’s from Brazil, great personality)
Def. recommending it to others!
This place is a real charmer, and the kitchen knows what it's doing. I also appreciate that my pasta with pomodoro was a real entree serving portion and not some minimalist rip off. The food is delectable and the back patio is quite sweet. This is a place to visit repeatedly.
great food and lovely backyard outdoor dining space
I had a good experience on almost all levels. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The noise level was "up there" but there were 3 tables, all one party, celebrating something.....understandable.
As always, the food and the wine and service was terrific. Lorenzo took great care of us and it was great sitting in the back patio! The agnolotti was off the chart delicious. Poesia is the only top-of-the-line restaurant in the Castro and consistently great food. But don’t go as I want to have a reservation available whenever I want to go!!!
Lovey place , great food great service .
The new patio is a wonderful addition to the experience. In almost a secret space the new patio opens up the restaurant to a fun engaging space. Scenes of Italy create a virtual escape while travel is still limited. Lorenzo was amazing, not only with food recommendations but a perfect wine pairing.
Whether you have a special occasion, looking for a get away and amazing Italian food and recipes (and wine), I highly recommend Poesia for first timers or if you haven’t tried out the back patio.
Excellent Food. Love the outside patio. Can pretend you’re in a piazza in Italy!!
We love eating here, it's great to come back after so long in lockdown. We all enjoyed our meals, my duck was amazing and my husbands steak was perfect. Love those Yukon potatoes. I did almost crack my tooth on a cherry seed but hard to fault when it tasted so good.
LOVE this neighborhood restaurant! Great food. Wonderful staff. Great food. Expensive but not exorbitant.
Sitting outside in their back patio was wonderful! All four of our dinner selections were prepared perfectly, even our two Gluten Free pastas were delicious. We love this place for visitors and friends.
My nectarine salad was so good - fresh and light, as was the ravioli and agnolotti. We drank an amazing wine - Mezzacorona Dinotte. As always, Lorenzo was the perfect waiter and the back patio ambiance was cozy and friendly. Even though it was a chilly and windy San Francisco night, we stayed very warm even though we were dining outside.
Can't wait to go back again!
Wonderful outdoor space.
Some of the servers have changed over time but they are as attentive and welcoming as ever. The food continues to be above and beyond. Love this place.
I’ve been here twice, once for my anniversary with my boyfriend and it was perfect! We were excited to come back again for our date night and had a great experience again(: The staff is very nice and the food is so good! Can’t wait to come back again
Great food, great service. Really enjoyed
As always, a gorgeous meal. And I know it's a cliche, but truly the best Italian food I've had outside of Italy.
The front of the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived. Then the host took the s through the kitchen, dodging waiters and cooking staff, but we emerged in a surprisingly lovely back deck, with an excellent string trio performing wonderful music. The food, service and atmosphere were terrific. Will definitely come back!!
Excellent food, service, and ambiance. We ate outside on the deck (near a heater) and could not have been more satisfied with the evening. Lorenzo, our server, was the best! Definitely coming back.
A bit awkward having to walk through the kitchen to get to the outdoor seating but other than that it was lovely !
Always a pleasurable and authentic that engages all of the senses. Service and cuisine are always beyond! Thank you again :)!
Family get together
One of the consistently best restaurants in town. Amazing food and drinks, terrific staff, and the back garden is magical.
We discovered this jewel of a restaurant long before the Covid restrictions. We were thrilled and relieved when they remained open for take out. We relied upon and enjoyed their food throughout the pandemic. It was a joy to actually go to the restaurant in person last night (Juneteenth) with an elderly couple we hadn't seen for 16 months. We sat on the lovely, peaceful back patio.
Our server was attentive, pleasant and very professional and helpful (as always). The staff is one of the chief joys and attractions to this establishment.
We had the excellent tomato soup (a fave), which didn't disappoint, the charcuterie plate (always a delight), the agnolotti al plin pasta, the taglietelle ala Nona, a rich bolognese meat sauce pasta, and the spinach ravioli. All exquisitely prepared and perfectly presented. In addition, for starters, there was the tuna tartar that the diner said was lovely and a spring greens salad, a delight for the eye, as well as the palatte. For a side dish, we all ordered the superb grilled baby asparagus. It did not disappoint.
Dessert was a delicious cannolo, a chocolate mousse and their cloud-like panna cotta with fresh strawberries.
We just can't say enough good things about Poesia. We've never had a bad meal from them, either dining in or take out. It is highly recommended and a true sparkling star in San Francisco.
So great to be back for a great dining experience again. Love the Negronis!
We like to start with the meat and cheese plate which is probably enough for four, but the two of us polish it off. I usually have a fish entree since I’m already half full. The accompanying purée and veges are cooked perfectly and have so much flavor. The pasta dishes are delicious. Both the filled pastas and the various sauces are amongst the best I’ve had. Start at the bar where Chad will make you a killer cocktail. Looking forward to taking some out of town friends there this summer.
Everything is ok because just back from COVID-19. cannot expect too much !
Service was a little slow, but they are reopening from lockdown, so it may be that they have less staff than usual. However even though the service was slow, the service was great...and the food was phenomenal.
The outside patio is so lovely. Out of the wind and cozy. This is one of our favorite places to eat in SF. The food is consistently good, and the thing that makes them so special is that their menu has authentic Italian food from every region! And the cocktails are just the cherry on top of a great dining experience.
We ha d a lovely dinner at Poesia. I am a big fan because they have gluten free pasta and they make it so perfectly that you can’t tell it’s gluten free. Two of our party are vegans and they enjoyed the vegetables, tomato and bread soup, My souse had the fish and really enjoyed it. The tiramisu and chocolate mousse were good, but small for the price. The wine list is a bit spendy, but we liked what we had. Definitely a great dinner and a lovely outdoor setting.
Food is fresh and well-prepared. Service is excellent. One of the best in the city.
Not your usual Italian restaurant, serving authentic dishes you probably won't find elsewhere. Friendly service and intimate ambiance.
We had an early dinner. We got sick. Not sure if it was the meat sauce or the wine. We had the Italian equivalent to a Pinot noir. There was only one that day. We ate a non meat ravioli and the pasta with meat sauce. Pasta is made in house and is very good. The people and the service also good so I cant say it’s all bad. I don’t think we will go again as this was our second time and it’s not on our top 10 must go again and again list. Anyway - people do rave about this place and I am sure it depends on your own experience. Oh but- the basil infused cocktail is a little must. Worth going for at least that!!!
I love Poesia. The food is amazing and the hospitality backs it up. Great wine selection and an educated staff always happy to make suggestions. The pastas are sublime.
The food presentation was lacking. The vegetable dish was a miss, the taste of the individual varieties of vegies was lost to the charred taste. The bruschetta was not memorable. The bass plate was fine but nothing that wowed us. The house made ravioli was good. Service was good but not as warm as I thought is was going to be after seeing this restaurant reviewed on Check Please. We may go back to try some other pasta dishes. We did have a window seat with a great view to the neighborhood.
Great food! Great wine! Great service! Fun silent Italian movies playing on the wall. Definitely one of the best restaurants in the Castro.
Loved it! Good food great ambiance
Love this restaurant. They just need a second bathroom.
Thank you for the birthday dinner
