Pontoon St Kilda Beach
Not sure what happened but share plates with an overseas girlfriend were a bit embarrassing. The kingfish ceviche was a knockout but the somewhat dry crumbed calamari and the quite bland smallish chicken wings did not excite. The cauliflowers steaks had in the past been my absolute fav dish- dried fruit and herb/crumb mix on a whole piece was just not the same. If it ain’t broke, please don’t fix it! Service was however awesome, the vibe, decor and friendliness of staff when needing a taxi were very welcome. Wines were also great.
Our host was exceptional; the perfect combination of friendly and professional. The food was also excellent. The venue had great music at a level you could still hear people talk, and we had a beautiful view of the sunset. Perfect evening.
Pontoon is a great social environment giving cool relaxed vibes to feel good about yourself. So much fun and a brilliant venue to enjoy with friends, family and work colleagues.
Lovely to experience a warm summer night having dinner on the beach. Highly recommend!
Great location. The standard of the food has dropped, and isn't particularly value for money. Fish meal $32 with no sides. Meals were cold when they arrived on the table. Gets up there for a casual bite to eat. Atmosphere is what one is paying for though.
I would only recommend the Pontoon to anyone as long as you are not bothered by the Pub atmosphere,
its a very casual place which is fine , the food is of a fair standard nothing more, its not bad by any means, The Staff were fine , only don't expect them to be more than a nice Pub. has lovely views over the bay,. Don't go there if you think you are going to a nice Restaurant .
Steak and fries hmmmm boring where’s the veg or salad. Cauliflower was great but maybe as a share not main. Staff and venue super.
Cannot beat this location and the food and drinks menu do it justice. Highly recommend the lamb shoulder.
We ate early with sundowner drinks, it was a perfect setting for that. There's a good vibe in the place and the food was good. Pizzas and steak cooked to perfection, if a little salty. Our waitress was a beautiful Catalan. Only negative was the mains came hot on the heels of the starters, with no time in between to catch or breath or order a specific drink with our meal. They could have got a lot more money out of us! When booking we mentioned it was for a birthday but nothing was made of it, so why ask the question?
Perfect spring evening on the beach before a show at the Palais.
Steak loin was very nicely cooked.
The paella was quite disappointing as it was not properly cooked still quite wet and definitely no crust on the bottom.
Great service, excellent view, fabulous food and the sun was shining - couldn't ask for anything more!
Not the best. Slow service, to the point we didn’t bother getting dessert.
Food was nothing special, over cooked.
Staff were amazing. Food was good value and tasty. Would recommend for couples and groups
We had the $20 steak night and and ordered the chips and cos lettuce. It was divine. Thank you
We started with a beautiful spanish pizza and calamari. Chunky calamari, which I am not an absolute fan of, with a light flavoursome coating. Chorizo and chill pizza was divine, a cripsy base and delicious sauce made a gorgeous start. We then elected for the slow roast lamb and the available side salad. The lamb was absolutely one of the best dishes I have had for a long time. Soft and delicate shoulder with a perfect sauce topped with crispy garlic slices, we will be back for more!
Amazing food, amazing service. Can't wait to go back.
A lovely place with fantastic view to the beach. We had chosen Paella party (bottomless paella) which turned out a fantastic choice: paella tasty, good fun to share and wasted down nicely with Organic Mountain Goat Steam Ale. At the end got complimentary nice Spanish chorrus.
Extra entertainment with live music, on Sunday, brings extra fun day. The service is friendly and accessible.
We would want to coming back again.
Food was ok aside from the paella which was good but lacked enough rice the rest wasn’t quite as Spanish as it might have been but decent nonetheless A great location for sure and pretty busy so I’m glad I visited in winter as I understand summertime can be hugely busy.
They sell Pepsi - not Coca Cola. They wouldn’t give me a “naked burger” ie no bread. First place in 5 years which refused to do so. Just a waste of good food(the bun)
Excellent experience, highly recommend
I am so impressed with Pontoon. Second time there since changed to Spanish and have loved it. Staff are amazing, service is excellent, food is beautiful and great value for money. The music last Sunday was great, I have been raving to everyone about how good the musicians were. We will be back. Don't change from the Spanish. Cannot wait to come in the warmer weather
Great atmosphere and service and as an added plus there was a fabulous duo playing some great tunes :)
Pontoon's Winter strategy is an interesting idea. They've dropped the summer "beachy" menu and have gone to a full on Spanish approach having been through an autumn menu with was for people who lunch after the gym. As someone who loved the place all through Summer - I have up on the transition approach and then went back in a couple of weeks ago to be met by the new Spanish menu and different room layout. The view has alway been gorgeous and no-one can mess with that. The welcome, service and layout are all sensational. The menu and wine list are sensational. Now all they need is a brigade in the kitchen who can do it justice. Everything was overcooked and had dried out. The ingredients were all very good, but the execution was just not great. I'll go back once more in a couple of weeks and see what's happening. But I really do hope they "get it together." Go, it may already be on the mend.
Loved the paella, mulled wine pairing. Mulled wine could be hotter though. Loved the atmosphere and the seats outside. Def a perfect spot to relax and will def be back! Thank you! Oh and band was AMAZING
Extremely disappointing overall. Service was slow when the restaurant was only a few tables full. Food was very very average. Paella was dry and flavourless and took and hour to come out after our starters.
Won’t be going back there in a hurry. Such a shame as the ambience is delightful and restaurant fit out, really lovely.
They have just changed their menu to more Spanish, tapas, sharing style which is fine but I didn’t find it very tasty. Sorry I love the place but don’t think I’ll be back until there is another change of menu.
Great pizzas!! Lousy booking website... opentable booked me for the wrong time, wrong amount of people and trying to change that info was impossible so I ended up ringing Pontoon direct, cancelling the opentable booking and rebooking direct!!!!!!
Cosy and comfortable. Food and drinks were a bit small for the price we paid. Overall a really nice setting near the beach.
Visited for a quick “pop in” dinner before a show and it really surpassed expectations. 4 of us share the slow cooked lamb with a couple of salads. The menu said this would serve two to three, but it was heaps for four and totally delicious. The service was particularly swift since we said we were heading out, and the waitress immediately responded well. My only hesitation in recommending is that two items (including fish) were not available from the fairly limited menu.
Not at this stage as I was disappointed and underwhelmed. The lettuce wrapping the ceviche was gritty although the coconut flavour was delicious. The menu was very short and left us wanting more choice. We didn't understand why they offer pizza and only margherita and hawaiian. On the website the menu was about 1/3 longer. The freekah and pea salads were delicious so that made up a bit for the downsides.
Great views, modern vibe, food was good, ( roast chicken) and waitress was lovely. However once our mains were done, service was done. No one offered coffee, dessert etc, so felt a bit abandoned. Also bench seating cushions are a light color and look very, very grubby. Other than that, good choice for lunch with friends on a lovely day.
Pontoon, The Stokehouse's baby sister is a great place for a casual meal or quick drink. With fabulous views of the bay, and seats that touch the sand you really get the St Kilda vibe.
Meals are reasonable and the service was spot on; much more in line with the upstairs dining. The menu is not extensive, but has some interesting foibles and everything we ordered was just great. I'll be back, and recommend this to my friends!
Outstanding quality delivered with efficiency and charm. Big bold flavours from the grill, and very affordable. Inclement weather wasn’t an issue - warm and welcoming throughout. Best location in St Kilda.
We have really enjoyed 2 family dinners at Pontoon. The food, service and views were great. We are planning to go back for breakfast or brunch on the weekend sometime.
I love eating at pontoon, the staff are so helpful and very familiar with the menu. The staff really make it
Dinner with girls
the food was great I came with a few girlfriends our waitress was amazing she was the English girl
all the food was lovely we desert unfortunately the churros weren't nice at all too much sugar and not tasty at all, so we left them ..
however everything else we ate was beautiful and would definitely come again . as for value for money was a little on the expensive side ... but overall the experience was great
Great food and service. Good wine knowledge by waiter. Thanks for a great evening.
the pork we ordered is bit over cooked, so the meat is dry not juicy, we also ordered the whole flounder fish with pea&bean on top, I like the tasty of source, very fresh and vinegary .
