Provender Kitchen + Bar
Fun to try new foods.. I have heard so much about this restaurant and I finally got to try it.. Amazing
What a memorable evening. Food was amazing, our party of five was seated comfortably, our wait staff was excellent. PK Burger, Steak and Vegetable Wellington all enjoyed. Be sure to ask for the Vegetarian, vegan Menu; selections are excellent. We enjoy having Provender as a dining choice in downtown Ellsworth,
We had a fabulous meal here and everything was excellent, but the dry-aged steak was EPIC!
Our go to place to celebrate special occasions! Love the fact that children
are treated great. Food, service and
atmosphere are excellent.
BillD, Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to write this great review. We truly appreciate your business .
Has to be the best ribeye I ever had. As good as, or better than, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Great sauce, tender beef; almost didn't need a knife to cut it.
We were in the area. It was just ok. Mediocre at best
Provender is such a gem! I've eaten here more times than I can count and it's always spot on. Both brunch and dinners here are phenomenal. Highly recommend!
Joanna, Thank you so much for the kind words and the great review. We're so glad you enjoy everything about Provender. We will continue to work hard to keep earning your business. Thank you for taking the time for this great review and we look forward to seeing you soon. Daron+ Joy
By the far the best restaurant in Hancock county. The food is superb, the atmosphere relaxed, and the service PHENOMENAL!!! Consistent and delicious, it is our number choice always. Date night or a quick drink, check them out.
This is our go to place for an amazing Brunch each Sunday. The test kitchen items that Daron puts together are on spot! Love to try something new or just go with the stand by of Avocado Toast or just eggs and sausage! The menu is perfect for everyone. Great wait staff!
Jodi, That you for the kind words, and for the your support . I promise we will continue to work hard to earn your business. Look forward to seeing you guys soon. Daron + Joy
It’s usually amazing and we’re still happy we went for dinner; however, our appetizer came out seconds before our entrees arrived. I couldn’t enjoy the appetizer fully and my dinner cooled by the time I got to it. The waitress said it was her fault and apologized which was nice but the food is so expensive I feel like we were cheated somewhat.
Thank you for your feedback and I apologize for bad timing on your meals. Usually we are spot on when it come to that . But Mistakes do happen. I would like to buy you your next appetizer on your next visit. Or you tell me what you would like for me to do to make this right for you. I really want you to come back and fully enjoy your experience. please call me directly to set up your a reservation 610-1480 and ask for Daron. Thank you for taking the time.
Really pleasant restaurant - friendly staff, happy patrons, lovely decor (gorgeous reclaimed wood).
Food concept & creativity - 100%
Execution - 70%
The coconut lobster bisque was out of this world. Excellent smooth flavor, with generous pieces of lobster. I’d go back for that but the food is always good here!
A bit expensive, especially hors d’vuours. I’ve had Sole and chicken, both very good.
Would like a simple green salad added to menu.
This is an excellent place for Sunday brunch with an interesting, inventive selection of drinks and food, tastefully presented.
The menu wasn't as posted online, which they did warn that it does change so that was fine. My husband had the roasted chicken with corn risotto. The chicken was dry and flovorless. The risotto was so brothy it looked like his chicken was floating in soup. I had the beets with feta, and the PBK burger. The beets were delicious, but the the feta was so salty I had to pick the beets out to eat them. The burger was delicious. Nice chargrilled flavor, moist, and perfectly cooked. The fries were also very good. Service was a bit slow, but not terrible.
Rebecca, Thank you for the feedback we are always trying to improve everyday. I apologize the chicken dish didn't live up to expectations. That dish is usually spot on, somehow one went out that wasn't up to par. Which is totally unacceptable . Next time just let a server know that you weren't happy whit your entree and i would of been happy to send out another dish or I would of bought it for you. I hope this doesn't deter you from giving us another try. I know we can make this 3 star into a 5
We enjoyed a great creative dinner while visiting the Maine coast. Great food!!!
Fabulous food, great people, always a perfect experience.
Neil, thank you for joining us and we appreciate the kind words. So glad you enjoyed everything . And we look forward to your next visit. Daron+ Joy
If you haven't gone here yet, you are missing out! The food is EXCEPTIONAL. Not just good, not just great, EXCEPTIONAL. Like mind-blowing. We have been twice and both times our expectations were exceeded and we are foodies, so can be pretty high standards to meet. Get the beet appetizer, you will never be satisfied again with anyone elses! We had the burger, the pasta special with wild mushrooms and duck confit, truffle fries (GAHHHH! SOOOOO GOOD!), the roast chicken is divine, and the cocktails are tasty and innovative. We have eaten all over the country, and this place blew us away!
ShariL, thank you for taking the time to write this great review. We are so happy you enjoyed your experience here at Provender. We agree the new beet appetizer is amazing, glad you enjoyed it. Next time your in take a look at the brunch menu! Again, thank you for taking the time and I hope we continue to earn your business. Daron + Joy
Delicious - the very best option in Ellsworth!
thank you so much ANNEK!!! look forward to seeing you soon.
Great food as always in an offbeat (but good) atmosphere. Service was the only weak part of the restaurant. Will return.
mister travel, thank you for joining us and taking the time to write this nice review. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the food but please let me know what part of the service was not up to par? We are always looking for feedback good or bad. That way we can learn and I can address any issues so it doesn't happen again. Thank you for taking the time and i look forward to your next visit. Excellent flavor combinations, and thoughtful presentation. Every dish was well executed. A joyful way to start a Sunday!
The pork belly appetizer was one of the best things I have ever had at a restaurant. My pork belly experience is limited, but it was really excellent for taste and texture. The entrees were good and filling, more home cooking style than elevated but very good. Drinks were interesting and okay. Wide diversity in beers. Will return.
Char, Thanks for joining us tonight. The pork belly is definitely one of the most popular appetizers and know you can see why. We're glad you enjoyed it . I'm thinking you had the Mac'n cheese entree, that is one of our more comfort foods entrees as theres of the menu fits out elevated american cuisine style. Thank you for taking the time to wrote this nice review and we look forward to your next visit. Daron + Joy owners Provender
Truly an outstanding dining experience. The entree itself is almost secondary to the accompanying, unusual and deliscious side dishes. There is not a better restaurant in the area.
Unexpected food in an unlikely place! First-class prep and presentation. I had the Peekytoe Crab Cakes and they were sublime. My wife had the roast chicken, and while the chicken was great, the star of the dish was the smoked potato, bacon, and corn risotto. I opted for the PKB Burger, which arrived not as usual, a huge patty, but two smaller patties stacked. It was perfect on the potato bun. And Tallow Fries? Move over, duckfat! Great atmosphere too, a 1930s space with a barrel ceiling updated to be at once opulent and comfortable.
Oleander, Thank you for taking the time to write this great review, We're thrilled you enjoyed your experience at Provender. And we agree, the risotto is amazing ! and of course the Burger, you can't go wrong there either. And if your ever in town on a Sunday, brunch is a must try. Again, thank you for taking the time. Best, Daron + Joy
Refined and inventive farm-to-table flavors with a twist; charming atmosphere in an old soda fountain with beautiful vintage wood booths, bar and paneling. Great accommodations for gluten free diners without compromising flavor. Yum!
We were passing through Ellsworth after hiking Downeast and picked this on a whim. Felt very lucky to have found this little gem. Food was excellent, staff was fun and friendly and service was good. I had the ricotta with smoked bacon, potato and corn as a side dish and it was amazing! I follow a gluten free diet and my spouse is a plant based vegan guy and they had menus for each of us with many good choices. The cocktails were also great...”What She’s Having” was a highlight! Well worth the stop in Ellsworth!
Excellent food and service. Staff were very helpful with handicapped guest.
The food offerings are varied and consistently delicious and the service...the chef and staff are consistently welcoming. I never hesitate to take visiting family and friends for a night out of fabulous dining at Provender.
Delicious food, really fun drinks, great service, and wonderful menu with vegan and gluten free choices as well!
What was not good at Provender? Nothing! From the cocktails (and the wine list), to the food, to the dessert, this place is great. It is hard to find such a creative restaurant north of Portland but Provender pulls it off. I highly recommend.
Thin menu choices are thin and not as presented. For instance, “Tallow Fries”, which I expected to be hand cut potatoes cooked in tallow, were frozen french fries cooked in tallow; what a waste, they tasted like McDonald’s French fries. The worst part of the menu is it way, way overpriced.
Diana, just so we are clear and for everyone reading this, it does NOT say "hand cut" ANYWHERE on the menu . Why would you think that ? And could you be more clear on how exactly we are overpriced. We use the best and locally sourced ingredients when ever possible . for example, Wagyu ribeye, produce from farmers 5 miles down the street, humanly raised all natural chicken and pork, 95% of the menu is made from scratch! Any further comments or questions please give me a call at 207-610-1480 .
3rd visit in 2 yrs. My Lobster and Coconut soup was simply outstanding! Chef has imagination and the skills to pull it off. My crab cakes were very nice , albeit a very busy plate. My wife’s Kobe steak was superb! My friends enjoyed there swordfish and Chicken with risotto and my samples were delicious! Beer and wine selections are very nice and reasonably priced! A True Gem in that location.
We had hesitated in trying Provender due to mixed reviews here in Maine. We were in the Ellsworth area celebrating our anniversary and decided to try. We had a lovely and delicious evening. Everything was delicious. We loved the lobster bisque. We will recommend and return.
Great date night venue. Small private booths. Gourmet food. Friendly quick service. The coconut lobster bisque was unique and amazing - served with whipped cream. Loved the grilled swordfish. Don’t forget to make a reservation.
We love everything about Provender. Food is amazing and the service is fantastic. The cocktail menu is unique and fun!
Fabulous food, always friendly staff and very easy to make reservations on line.
Great food and friendly service!
We had a very enjoyable dinner with friends. Server couldn’t have been nicer. The food was delicious.
We have been there for brunch and dinner. On this particulate occasion it wasn't as good as it had been in the past. That being said, it doesn't mean that I won't go back but I noticed quite a difference in the appetizer and the entree that I had ordered compared to other times.
