I was rushed through dinner. I was dining with a friend for his birthday and enjoying great conversation. I did not appreciate being rushed to get through our plates and drinks when I am spending that kind of money and trying to enjoy the world renowned food. Dining is an experience and mine was not great. I will not dine there again because Pujol’s business focus does not value this experience. Truly unfortunate.
We give Pujol very high marks all around...the approach to food and dining, the friendliness and skill of the staff and the tastes...all great to experience.
Strangely enough, the minor suggestion has to do with the set taco menu. It was very filling, maybe even too much food. (And that surprised us!) The pairings were great (even the non-alcoholic ones) as were the triple deserts. But a little more variety (soup/salad/pasta/fish) and a few less tacos might be even better.
Thanks for a great experience...and desert in the garden was a lovely touch.
I was really excited to go to Pujol, but I was a little disappointed. We did the taco bar and it was good, but it wasn't great. Overall none of the dishes had very strong flavours, and I think they were dulled further by being wrapped in tortillas. Just lacking pizazz. The atmosphere is great and the service was top notch, but I wish the dishes were a bit more exciting. I also found the drink pairings a bit stingy.
When booked thru opentable I didn't realize I had to commit to the Taco Omakase menu at the bar. It's prix fix tacos plus mandatory drink pairings. Came out to $320 usd for 2, which I feel was too much. I would have preferred regular table seating and choosing my own entrees. However service was pretty good. They were accommodating to us since we didn't want anything spicy. Nice touch that they serve the last course (dessert) outside. It was a delicious churro.
The service, ambience, and indoor/outdoor environment were certainly excellent. The welcome and farewell were courteous and polite as expected. I sat at the taco bar for the 10-course taco tasting menu. The experience is structured in a delightfully unique way: each set of 2 courses is paired with a beverage (usually wine); after the trio amuse bouche, and the main courses, there is an interlude where they take you to the kitchen for a brief tour; then, they walk you to the outdoor garden where they describe some of the plants which are used in the kitchen; finally, they sit you in this beautiful, lush garden for the final part of the menu, the set of desserts.
While the pacing is perfect, I did start to get a little full at dish #7, and could only have a few bites of the remaining main courses. But, this may not be a problem for others.
I was generally pleased with all the courses and their presentations. I specially loved the duck al pastor with pineapple, onions, and chili, and this was nicely paired with an Argentine Cabernet blend. The chili stuffed with Oaxaca cheese and Wagyu beef was rich and well balanced. Other dishes, however, lacked a complexity I was hoping for. For example, the eggplant tortilla with black and red mole was rather bland, despite the fact the black mole is a special preserve (a nearly 4-yr process). But! interestingly, the mezcal pairing completely changed the whole thing, bringing out details of the dish into sharper notes that I didn’t taste before. It was very nice.
Some things, I thought, didn’t really fit in the meal: specifically, two of the amuse bouche pieces, the puff with a shave black truffle atop, and the one topped with caviar, felt rather contrived in context of everything else.
But, the third of the amuse bouche set, the carrot on a stick with spices and coffee was delectable. And, the outstanding spiced coffee at the end was a delicious throwback to that carrot, and therefore a great closure to a wonderful meal.
There is no menu. You are told that courses are created by the chef daily and we should 'trust' the chef. That's fine, it's a set menu and a surprise. It is also presented with drink pairing. No pricing was offered. I guess if you can't afford it, you shouldn't be here - somewhat pretentious.
Food and service was very good. But, we had a little 'sticker shock' when the bill was presented - $75pp for food...Ok, we didn't expect it to be cheap. And, another $75 pp for drink pairings, which included two non-alcoholic drinks to start including a herbal tea (very tasky) a small glass of white and red wine, 1/2 a beer in a champagne flute, a small Mescal and finished with a coffee. A total of 150 per couple for drinks (4 small alcoholic) If we were told in advance, we would have just ordered a nice bottle of wine. Felt somewhat taken advantage of by the servers by not explaining costs and options at the outset.
La verdad es que es demasiado caro para lo que te ofrecen. El maridaje de la barra de tacos la cual no sabiamos que era obligatorio, es en base a masa de maiz. Es demasiados los platillos te llevas 3 hrs exactamente para terminarlo y mientras entre un plato y otro pasa mucho tiempo asi que tienes la impresion de que comiste mucho pero no, es mas por el tiempo entre un plato y otro. La decoracion de los platillos muy bonita pero solamente. No tienen nada espectacular los sabores. Unicamente la presentacion. Las bebidas demasiado caro. el total por 4 personas sin pedir nada extra fue de 677 dlls a 18 por uno. Espero sirva este comentario.
Fantastic food, unfortunately I was not aware that the beverage pairing was mandatory. I enjoyed the beverage pairing, but it did not add much to the experience nor was it worth the price tag- it could have used a bit more cohesion. But the taco omakase was insane!!
El menú de la barra de tacos es demasiado grande, si pudiera decirle al Chef Olvera algo es que los tacos los haga más pequeños, y que diera la opción de maridaje sin alcohol para los que no podemos tomar. La tetela de frijol y erizo deliciosa. Cuando llegue al pato al pastor ya no podía comer más así que ya no los pude disfrutar tanto! Fuera de eso increíble, el lugar le quedo divino, todos los detalles perfectamente cuidados, obviamente el precio muy alto pero sabes a lo que vas, en julio iré al comedor !
Llegamos un poco antes y esperamos unos minutos en un descanso cerca de la barra. Luego nos hicieron pasar y comenzó el espectáculo; nos explicaron en que consistía la experiencia y si preguntaron si alguno tenía alergias o había algo que no quería comer. Todo el personal es excelente, atentos, divertidos, instruidos, un 10. La comida es la protagonista, en calidad y también en cantidad! Apenas terminamos y somos de los que comemos harto. Lo único bajo fue uno de los vinos del maridaje, que era francamente mediocre (un tinto de cepa desconocida). En cuanto al ambiente, el lugar es bello, cool y relajado, no pretensioso, pero sí frío, todo el mundo estaba abrigado.
En síntesis, gran experiencia, si pueden ir no se lo pierdan.
La barra no estaba lista al llegar en el primer turno y nos hicieron esperar de pie en una esquina junto con otros clientes.
Servicio poco profesional. Nos sirvieron agua natural y con gas en los mismos vasos y al mencionar la equivocación recibimos un seco "Okey" por parte de la camarera. El error se repitió en una segunda ocasión.
Comida correcta con un maridaje de bajo coste.
Espacio agradable, pero veíamos a los camareros cómo tomaban su café mientras esperábamos ser servidos.
Para finalizar, en un restaurante posicionado entre los 50 mejores del mundo, recibimos la cuenta antes de probar los postres (por supuesto, sin haberla pedido).
The Tacos Omakase is exceptional. Boeing forma Mexico I can trully tell that Olvera takes something so simple as a taco to the next level, plus all the pairings were amazing. I just wish we could started earlier our meal because it took about 3 hrs
The tacos bar is an omakase-style set meal that changes every month based on seasonal produce. The restaurant lives up to the hype with a friendly staff, outstanding dishes that go well together but also stand alone on their own.
We came here on a date but the tacos bar is good for any occasion. Highlight dishes from the taco bar are:
• eggplant tacos
• duck carnitas
• sweet corn with ant chili powder
Always enjoy Pujol, it is top notch. We had never sat at the bar but that was all that was available when we made reservations. Since there was only two of us it worked out great, nice chatting with the knowledgeable servers and watching the staff do their thing. The creative take on Mexican cuisine is exceptional and visually compelling as well. A must for foodies visiting DF.
I was happy to get into P Barra since I was asking for Saturday night seating. We were seated earlier than our allotted time and remained unattended for a couple of minutes before we were acknowledged. The staff then automatically began to bring drinks and later food without an introduction to how things would work or what we should expect. Each course was explained but once presented, staff would disappear and weren't interactive. The food was really good; the restaurant was mostly too loud to hear the descriptions of the food. I say this place is fit for foodies but the bar makes for a less than exquisite experience.
Para los postres es evidente la movilidad de las mesas. Prácticamente te sacan al frío del jardín y el servicio baja. Se pierde el pampering. Es difícil comer postres sin luz. Prácticamente a ciegas. Detalles mínimos pero si tienen áreas de oportunidad.
excelente calidad de materias primas autóctonas de mexico, la calidad insuperable, la integracion de los sabores perfectos, un viaje por mexico en el paladar. la version del omakase de tacos es vasta y con el pairing de alcohol te da una comida
