Also ich bin fast sprachlos und kann es nicht in Worte fassen, welch ein Geschmack diese dry-age Rinder-Filet durch den am Knochen gegrillten Prozess der Zubereitung entfaltet. Jeder, der schon mal ein dry-age Steak gegessen hat, vermag zu beurteilen, welch eine Geschmackentfaltung entsteht, das aber als „Frauensteak“ bei Steakkennern verpönte Filet hat heute eine Stufe erreicht, die durch den Knochen und Fettreste an der Außenseite eine neue Dimension nie gekannten Ausmaßes im Geschmack entfaltet. Es ist nicht gut, es ist nicht sehr gut, es ist das von mir bisher als einzigartig und exzellent bezeichneteste Rinderfilet aller Zeiten beschrieben. Fast untergegangen sind dabei die raffiniert mit schwarzen geraspelten Trüffeln versehenden dünnen krossen Fritten, die eine neue Interpretation einer so trivalen Beilage aufwertet. Also volle Punktzahl. Fast zur Nebensache degradierte sich dabei der offene rote Burgunder, der aber geschmackvoll rund und ohne aufdringlich zu wirken. 😊😋👍

Steak was very good. A steak house that serves french fries cold in a hot dish simply misses the point of this side dish. Unacceptable. Service was slow, disorganized, and not attentive. Ordered wine from the menu and they no longer had it and the menu was out of date. This says it all for a disappointing evening
Eduardo was amazing! Suggested a great ages ribeye that was really crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside (thank you chef! *insert chefs kiss* haha). And overall service was great. I sat by the bar booths so not only was Eduardo every attentive while having a crow as a well but every server (including bar tender) would either ask if we needed anything or take something away from the table. From food to service, best in town!! Thanks again.
Every dish was perfectly cooked from the octopus to steaks to the scallops! The food was the absolute star!! The service was attentive w/o being intrusive. Excellent choice for special occasions as well as business meals. I will be back!!

First time visiting Rare after a friend raved about it pre-pandemic. Not sure if they lost a step with the chef, but I was not impressed especially with the steak. We order and share as friends. So we ordered the 50oz Porterhouse, salmon, branzino, lobster Mac & cheese, and asparagus. The steak was not hot, asked for medium, received medium rare, and not a good cut at all. The salmon was delicious and hot. Branzino and Mac & cheese were ok. Would have been better hot I’m sure. Service was good though. They have some work to do.
This restaurant met and exceeded all my expectations. From the location itself to its great people and can’t say enough about the food. We went straight to the steak and after Angel, our great guy that helped us out for the night, made his recommendations I went for the bone in rib-eye with with truffle butter and mashed potatoes and creamy spinach as the sides. I have been in an almost non red meat diet and gave myself a treat and boy was it worth it! Definitely one of the best steaks I have ever had! The customer service and food goes above and beyond at this place! Thank you!
I’ll admit I was disappointed. The wedge salad was swimming in dressing. Even trying to scrape some of that off the salad wasn’t successful and it was just the teaser of the dressing. The broiled broccolini had an acrid taste and smell. The sauce that was drizzled over the top really didn’t help either . Service was fine. Very few people in the restaurant
I used to like their steak much better before, but yesterday the steak was very hard. Kind of disappointed, but anyway they have a very good wine list, and service is great
I had visited Rare a few times pre-pandemic and it was always good, however, last night it was exceptional. The food was amazing. Grace our waitress was fantastic and the host was great - even accommodating a special request that was above and beyond.
Experience and food were as expected but It took almost an hour and a half to get our entrées without any real explanation from the server or manager. they were apologetic and did comp our after dinner drinks but we felt more could’ve been done.

It is a rare occasion I write a review -- especially a negative one. I came to visit Washington, DC to spend time with friends after a personal tragedy and expected the same level of comfort, kindness, and relaxed atmosphere as the Wisconsin locations. I was in for a surprise.
The second two of us walked in to be seated, I -- we -- felt oddly uncomfortable and judged. (Neither of us were in shorts or anything drastically casual -- and a Yelp! question and answer claims there is "no formal dress code.") I looked classy enough just the way I was dressed in a white cap, button up long sleeve shirt, white shoes, and black pants -- or so I thought. (In WI, I've worn the same thing several times and no manager has ever said a word at those locations.)
At first, I thought of coming back to this location in the future (I love the steaks!) but quickly changed my mind after the manager's cocky, elitist attitude. It's worth noting: Our waitress, Greysel, couldn't have been kinder to me; she was most-wonderful, empathetic -- and every server should strive to be that welcoming.
Overall, I left uncomfortable, saddened, and humiliated. I spent $300 to be disrespected when there are many other great DC steakhouses and establishments that aren't as stringent as this Rare location. I wrote the restaurant over the weekend to discuss my experience further, but I would not suggest this restaurant for anyone who doesn't want to be nitpicked on their appearance.

Celebrated our anniversary at Rare. It was amazing and was fortunate to be seated in their booth seating. Food was amazing, customer service was fantastic and just a beautiful place.

The waiter or staff were at the table every 5 minutes. They honestly wouldn’t let us enjoy our conversation or food. I enjoy finer dining but this was just obnoxious.

My son recently started at Howard University and I was visiting him in DC so decided to get a good steak. He loved it (and the bread)! One of my favorite steak places to go and now it’s one of his.
My husband and I were looking for a nice restaurant that was close to our hotel. This was perfect.. Food was excellent. Had the steak, medium rare. It was cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes were delicious. Overall we were very pleased and will definitely go back.
The food was excellent as it always is. The only concern last night was that the hat policy was not equitable enforced. As two black men we were reminded (although we didn’t need one) to remove our hats. When we arrived on the second floor dining area there was a white man already dining with a hat on his head. Umm!
Rare was phenomenal! We went for our anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. While we could tell they were busy and probably understaffed, they were very communicative about being busy and took great care of us regardless of being understaffed or not. The food was top notched (GET THE MUSHROOMS AND THE LOBSTER MAC AND CHEESE), the drinks were delicious. It was definitely worth the price and experience. We will be back!
Came here for my birthday and our group was seated in the private dining hall. Service was outstanding and food was delicious. Definitely pricey but for our night in combination with ambiance, our room and service the price for the food was worth it.
Great service and very cool atmosphere. The sides were also very tasty. The steaks left something to be desired at the price point. The New York strip was extremely chewy and gristly.

Service was decent. But slow. The filet I ordered was cooked perfect. However the apps and shrimp cocktail I ordered was terrible. It definitely wasn’t fresh and they didn’t devein the shrimp. I was embarrassed that I had to do that and stop my girl from eating it to devein the shrimp before she ate it.
But the steak was great. Overall very overpriced.
