Revel & Roost Brick Oven Kitchen
I was so excited to try this place, after reading reviews and looking over the menu. Sorely disappointed and I won't go back. The menu choices look fabulous! Our waiter was attentive and kind. But, maybe the chef was out Sunday night, because every dish had something off. Started w cauliflower soup, with truffle oil. But, something was not quite as yummy as it attempted. Asking for the ingredients, we found out it had ingredients not at all listed on the menu. Okay... next, grilled gem salad. Great items, but somehow they fell flat. Individually good but not quite right together. Then I wondered if the chef was out or if the chef was experimentive and creative but not well trained. Pork tenderloin, my friend's dish, and he was less than thrilled. I had paella- so excited all day about ordering this. I can't say it was bad, but if you know paella, you'd be shocked. The rice was way over cooked and stuck to the pan (I like crispy rice but this is a huge no-no to paella chefs) and the seafood was rather dried out due to overlooking. The flavor was good but not a wow. I'm rather bummed as I love great restaurants and wanted this to be as exciting as I was excited to try it. And, if you sit on the Third street side, facing cars, you are blinded by the headlights. A nice soft shade would have dimmed the lights. The outdoor seats on Third are very unappealing due to heavy traffic. In Rome they put up walls of greenery to muffle the sounds and fumes- maybe there's an idea there? I want to emphasize that the wait staff was really nice and quick and attentive. Timely service. Please, get some professional consultants to just slightly tune the menu and you will be set, with a soft shade to minimize the harsh headlights. Tip-Choose an inside table!
The flatbreads and paella were wonderful, though could've been more generous with the paella given the price. Pleasant environment with excellent service. Many restaurants have failed at this location. This one deserves big success.
Really delicious. Bartender could have been more knowledgeable, but otherwise a very good dinner and a great new addition to the San Rafael/Marin dining scene! We will be back!!
We love that there is a new and really wonderful restaurant in San Rafael. Don’t miss the grilled calamari, roast chicken and lemon panacotta.
The soup arrived warm and I sent it back to be heated. Came back very hot and tasty. The little gem salad tasted and looked more like the inside leaves of Romaine not true little gem. Very small for the price, hardly any grapefruit or avocado on the plate, but dressing was good. The brick chicken was very good, we both enjoyed that. The Skirt steak, was tough, drowning in glaze and very garlicky. Was not impressed. Good wine list.
Service felt rushed, waiter wanted to take our order before even getting us our drinks. Then they tried to clear plates while we still had a piece of silverware in out hands.
Has potential , would not rush back .
seafood was undercooked, paella and squid appetizer, both
The restaurant has been open 5 weeks but feels long established. The food was consistently good and our 8 year old approves!

Unfortunately the service was not good. Our waiter seemed impatient
