ROOH San Francisco
I had a high expectation based on the reviews on Yelp but it felt short of it. The vegetarian dishes were alright but nothing out of the ordinary, the flavors were alright. The quantity of gravy in the paneer pinwheel was quite less making it hard to eat the three pieces. ( Gravy was tasty). The non-alcoholic drinks were ok, nothing we would order again. Overall for a vegetarian, non-alcoholic person, it's a-ok place.
Amazing, creative Indian food using very high quality ingredients...cocktail menu and mocktail menu superb
I am very happy that we tried ROOH - the food is very good and the wine selection is really enjoyable and impressive as well! The waiter was a bit confused, forgot to bring our wine, but was generally very friendly and professional. The atmosphere was beautiful and not too noisy for San Francisco standards. I will probably not come again, because the food was not outstanding enough and too expensive for what it actually was.
Nouveau Indian inspired dishes. Spot on service. For those seeking what is beyond typical Indian fare. Want to get back there and try the cocktails.
The experience was wonderful. But the service wasn’t that outstanding. The food was completely balanced with a lot of spices.
Our server was very sweet, she hosted us wonderfully giving good suggestions for food, excellent service. Was expecting complimentary items such as papad or chutneys but in fact they charged us for onions .
Overall good food, Paneer curry quantity was less . Appetizers were great. Dessert Phirni moose was awesome.
They should add more dishes as person who visits 2-3 times, will not have anything to discover
Good place and unique food a bit pricy great drinks
First time and I can’t wait to go back! Food and service were extraordinary!
Excellent service and wonderful food. The chef seems to be quite well-traveled in India since some of the flavors he brings out in the dishes are truly unique and very specific to certain regions. The paneer appetizer was excellent as were the jackfruit tacos. Highly recommended.
New Year’s Eve dinner event. The food wasn’t spectacular but the menu was very thoughtful and well curated. The Maitre d’ ruined the occasion with his attitude - spilt my drink and acted like it didn’t happen🤨, no apology, no wipe up for the price of the meal, he needs an attitude change or a different job!
Not going back, though our assigned waiter was very good , the food is ok and doesn’t warrant a return trip.
Delicious fine dining gourmet Indian food ! ROOH provides an excellent ambience for special occasions, accompanied with a very generous service and sumptuous food. They made special custom dishes for JAIN food (pure vegetarian with no onion, garlic, potato). The chef made a mix-veg Paneer entree not on the menu, because we wanted Jain food. We thoroughly enjoyed the attentive service, and food quality. The staff makes you feel special for every minute you spent in the restaurant. We went there to celebrate my wife’s birthday, so they offered us a complimentary dessert as a gift! Thank you for the great food and service. We look forward to your upcoming branch in Palo Alto.
Read reviews before going here and was mixed . But was absolutely perfect friendly staff . Beautiful place , great cocktails , food was the best Indian food I’ve ever had. Gutted I live in the uk nothing will match this
My recent experience at ROOH was memorable. What struck us most was the mark of class that was very distinct. We have not experienced such a class here in the US in our 20 years of dining. The space was very comfortable and private fit for sharing special moments - although the largest cubicle could maybe seat 5 at the most comfortably. The Kadhai paneer, dal makhani and Goat cheese peas khulcha were our favorites. The Phirni dessert with Tandai was to die for! Our best compliments to the chef and thanks to our hostess for the recommendation.
Enjoyed the food
Creative and thoughtful menu with options to accommodate any kind of eater. Great food, well presented in a comfortable and beautiful environment. Portions are small, and prices are high (esp for the quantity) but the tastes make it worth it for an occasion.
Utter disappointment. See photo below for more details.
I would highly recommend ROOH's weekend brunch menu. It has a number of delicious vegetarian options including the frittata and Green Pea and Goat Cheese kulcha. The cocktail menu is also superb.
Food was delicious and fresh
Some traditional dishes were missing
Was quite expensive
Loved the creative dishes-so many gluten free and vegetarian options! Excellent service at the bar and at our table. Highly recommend for wonderful food and experience! Get the dal!
The menu reads better than the food tastes. For instance young coconut kebabs, which sounds really interesting, turned out to be rather stodgy croquettes.
Most of what we ate was under seasoned and over priced. Too noisy to enjoy our meal and poor value for money. Its in our neighborhood and we were excited to try it but won't be returning. Seems more of a drinking place than a restaurant.
Having had excellent prior experiences, we were very disappointed in the service, especially for a slow Monday night. While our waiter was fine, the food arrived erratically, with very excessive gap Ks between courses. Plus, plates were cool and food was merely warm, not hot. Maybe it sat too long before being brought to the table.
The food was amazing and so were the people serving in the restaurant. We were late and had to change the reservation twice and they were very helpful in accommodating us.
Would love to go there again..
This restaurant was a new one for my husband and I. We were so impressed with the flavor profile of everything we ate... All the really unique flavors of Indian food in an updated modern presentation. We will definitely be going back here to try more of the dishes we were not able to try first time around. Really cool selection of Cocktails and Mocktails also organized by Flavor profile.
Good food but this restaurant is just too expensive there are many other restaurants just as good for half the price
I like ROOH but this time the music was much to loud - it was hard to have a conversation.
WE had been there twice last year and the drinks were much better then. None of the drinks we got this time did we find that great. Also felt the food wasn't as good this time either. it was still good but not superb like last year.
Service too slow
A rare delight, made even rarer still (in a good way) by our delightful server, Bharati. She helped us navigate a few dietary restrictions, steered us to great selections, and was warm, friendly, and attentive. Plating was superior, and the flavors different from and well superior to your neighborhood Indian restaurant. I couldn't give it five stars for value because it is not inexpensive. But it was worth every cent of the price we paid.
Fantastic food, service, and ambiance
Meeting my uncle after a long time
We requested gluten free options for one guest at the outset. We were given quite a selection to choose from by our server, but one of the mains selected - the lamb shank - was actually not a gf option. We identified that as soon as the dish arrived and it was swapped for an alternative option. The staff were extremely accommodating when the mistake was realized. But it seemed such a shame, as it was only the accompanying sauce (it was not house made) which was gf, and there was no option to change it out.
The kitchen closed at 9.30 (it was a Tuesday), and as a result the bar was unable to make cocktails, and could only serve wine / bottled drinks which was a real pity as we were really looking forward to closing out with a cocktail instead of dessert. The cocktails we did get to enjoy at the start of our meal were absolutely fantastic.
Overall it was still a good experience and the servers were very accommodating and friendly. We will be back.
Amazing and creative food! Definitely will recommend to a friend! Such talented chef! Unique taste!
Definitely recommend trying the paneer chilli roll, chutney samplers and phirni dessert. Chutneys were the best part. Too good.
Food was amazing. Jackfruit tacos were delicious
Rooh was amazing as always! My favorite place to dine in San Francisco.
Food was reasonably tasty but super expensive. Service was nice but not exceptional. Ambiance was nice - very pretty setting. If you need to eat in this part of town it's a good choice but otherwise I'd go elsewhere.
Rooh is always wonderful, innovative food and great service. The only problem with this visit was that the Salesforce Dreamforce event was happening and the restaurant was slammed with diners. It was very noisy—conventioneers having a good time and spending money, so you can’t complain, but there were several tables for 6-8 dinners where 10 people were sitting.
We look forward to our next dinner here.
Drinks and Food are very good; the service is quite slow and they forget several of the items we ordered. It got to the point where it wasn't even worth it to wait.
Probably a good spot for happy hour and drinks but would not recommend for dinner....especially at those prices.
