Sasaki helped me transplant back to a visit to Tokyo with a simple aesthetic, quiet and peaceful and intimate delivery of the Omkase tasting menu, and outstanding food.
Delightful omakase despite the abridged menu. The handrolls (uni and tuna) were some of the best I've ever eaten. I will definitely return once they resume full service.
Omakase for less than $100? Yes please. Great food and great service. Deducted one star for ambiance because it wasn’t a “piece by piece at the bar” experience due to Covid. Instead, 4 pieces came out at a time.

Amazing experience as usual
I was disappointed with the Omakase selection. The fish was good but nothing surprising. Not one piece of fish or dish wowed me. I was excited for the Uni Handroll but that was just so so. I tasted mostly wasabi and not Uni.
It was a wonderful meal celebrating birthday. It was our second time at the restaurant. The lineup of the fish selection this time was perfect for us. It seemed to get better and better as the course progressed. Name a few; different mackerels, Japanese uni hand roll, chu toro, fresh taco were all so amazing. We were very happy by the end of the meal. Definitely will be back in the future.

Sasaki is a wondrous hole in the wall, nestled in a small community. As soon as you step inside, it’s as if you enter a whole different world. The ambience is quiet and zen-like. I could truly feel the serious passion that the chef puts into the artwork of his food and restaurant.
This is the very first omakase that my boyfriend and I have ever been to, and it will definitely be one I hope to return to several times.
The service was phenomenal. Our server - unfortunately, I cannot remember her name - was sweet and attentive. She named and explained everything she set out in front of us. In addition, she offered some suggestions at the end that we also found delightful.
We could immediately taste the quality of the food brought to us. Each bite was interesting and we did our best to really get a feel for all the flavors and how well the ingredients blended together. Please note, wasabi is used! However, ever since visiting Sasaki, I find myself reaching for wasabi to add to my sashimi. I believe that Sasaki had an real effect on my tastebuds, opening me up to try different things that I would not have done before.
At the end of it all, we were given a small parting gift. This meant the world to me, and I appreciated it from the bottom of my heart.
The place is definitely worth your money. From the amazing quality of food to the phenomenal service, I thank Sasaki and I hope to visit very soon!
In the Before-Times, Sasaki was one of our very favorite restaurants. We could confidently recommend it to anyone knowing they would have their mind blown by the quality of food and intimate service style.
Now it’s a different story. The cheap and uncomfortable outdoor tables they put indoors, the now-limited menu, and the mad rush they put diners through is not what one would expected for a high priced omakase-style restaurant.
Food is now presented in three small plates served in rapid succession, so for the $85 per person price, diners are in and out of the restaurant in 35 minutes- a far cry from the lingering experiences of before. I’m not sure the chef has kept his spot in line at the fish mart either: a couple of the (smaller?) pieces of fish did not seem to be of the same freshness or quality I remember from my many times to Sasaki before.
If you’re into spending $400 for 3 people for an appetizer-amount worth of so-so sushi in an institutional setting, Sasaki is your place. But if you are looking for a beautiful experience and/or if you remember the old Sasaki, look elsewhere.
It was a birthday dinner. To start I’ll say the quality of the sushi was quite good. No complaints there.
Chairs and tables were uncomfortable wrought iron patio tables that had been brought inside as the sushi bar wasn’t open yet due to covid.
We felt very rushed through this experience. All four courses were sent out within 45 minutes-an hour of arriving. The dessert course was sent before our server asked if we wanted additional nigiri. At this price and quality level, the experience should be paced better, especially given that the restaurant knew it was a special occasion.
We were happy to order the “additional nigiri”, but would have appreciated pricing being mentioned either verbally or on the menu. No mention was made at all, and we were surprised that from the base $170 for two people plus a btl of corkage $40, became a meal that was well over $500 with a few pieces of additional nigiri. We probably would have ordered those anyway as we were celebrating, but it would have been nice to know ahead of time as the prices were significantly above what we expected (and we order Hokkaido Uni, etc, at many similar restaurants, so we do know it is expensive, but this was even more than we’ve seen elsewhere).
The dining experience would have been made better with a few earlier courses to prolong the meal— or by serving the nigiri piece by piece rather than four at a time. For $250 a head it should be a little less brisk than it was.

A true gem in the city. To me, the best edomae sushi in the Bay Area. It suits my taste perfectly at least. :) The rice is a particularly perfect match in my opinion for the more back-of-the-palate neta like akami and kanpachi. Service is perfect. Drink menu is thoughtful---whatever else you like, I recommend starting with a glass of Premium Malts to whet the appetite.
If you are looking for simple, delicious sushi then this would be my top recommendation in the area!
Sushi was good, not mind-blowing. Server misread our dietary restrictions text message (mixed up unagi for uni) and subbed the uni we were looking forward to eating out of our meal, so we ended up having to pay more just to get it. Despite the hiccups we still enjoyed our time and food.

Such a beautiful evening from start to finish. Every piece of nigiri on the prix fixe omakase menu was seasoned to perfection. By the end, we were so satisfied with the meal and the wonderful service we did not want it to end.
Out of everything the Spanish Mackerel, the Fatty Tuna, and the Scallop were the top contenders. We can't wait until we can return!
I am so appreciative of Sasaki having outdoor dining. Yes, there is a change from the ambiance of sitting at the counter but the exquisite cuisine and the quiet, kind and respectful manner of the staff are unchanged. The omakase was delicious and plentiful with a lovely champagne selection. It was warm , comfortable and safe. Thank you Chef and all of your staff for providing these wonderful experiences for us San Franciscans!

The best sushi I have ever had, hands down. There is a beautiful story in every bite and it was a magical experience start to finish. The location on a quiet corner in the Mission is also quite unique - the sunsets there are unbelievable. (for context I live in LA and have eaten sushi at some of the top sushi restaurants in the world including all over Tokyo).

Amazingly fresh fish. Quite authentic. Squid had texture of raw shrimp and scallop had texture of raw fish. Mind blown about each piece of nigiri they served. Setting is nice and relaxing.
An atmospheric, quiet and beautiful restaurant. Excellent food but, even more than that, an educational experience.
In my happiest dreams I am eating at Sasaki every week. Every tiny bite seemed perfect, and by that I mean there were perfect textures and tastes, with tiny surprises of fermented salt or some other oh so NOT run of the mill flavor to delight. The tea we ordered was dreamy too, as was the Saki. I cant wait to do it again.
Fish was extremely fresh and delicious. Ambiance was lovely and intimate. Only disappointment was that the chef had lost his voice and couldn’t speak much to tell us about the bites. He is a true master though, and watching him cut & prepare the sashimi and nigiri was an unforgettable experience.
