Love the location and unique menu selections. We loved the Bao selections and tuna tartare. A bit overpriced as one needs at least two Bao for a meal. We tried the Bao donut dessert which was delicious! Waitperson was good
I'm obsessed with the food at Secret Bao. Their baos are inventive and delicious. My husband ordered the shrimp and K.F.C. baos, which are his favorites. I ordered the gyoza and the bagel bao with lox and cream cheese. Both were excellent. We wrapped up our dinner with sticky date cake made with my favorite DaVall dates. (My mom has me send her DaVall dates by the pound.) What a treat. Our server was friendly and attentive. She offered good suggestions when I asked her a question about the menu. The food arrived at our table in a timely manner but without us feeling rushed. We were seated outside next to the restaurant in their outdoor seating area. We appreciated the opportunity to dine outdoors during a pandemic. We look forward to our next dining experience here!
Good food & service. But $15 for a glass of wine that wasn't really a full glass was disappointing.
Our favorite dish was the Octopus- the flavors were outstanding! All of the dishes that we ordered were delicious. Perfect place to share plates and enjoy so many different flavors.
KFC Bao didnt dissapointed.. but cautflower was undercooked, almost raw.
Good service but ambiance is lucking.. not comfy seatings :(
Fantastic service all around and incredible food!!!
A nice adventure in dining. Creative dishes, good ingredients, well presented. Some reasonably priced wine selections and friendly, attentive service. Enjoyed our evening.
Everything was just great. The food was delicious and the staff very helpful.
We can’t wait to return!
The table we were given was on the side walk, They gave us this table when 90% of outside tables were available. …. I honestly doesn’t like the host of the place . It’s my second experience with the same person and again not happy how she treat customers.
The KFC bao and ribs bao were delicious, as was the gyoza. The scallion pancake was a miss for us (it was properly prepared) as a dish; the outside was yummy/crispy, but the batter and cooked onions on the inside were kind of mushy/runny, and overwhelmed the flavor of the premium ingredients like charred octopus. Host and wait staff were very friendly. Reservations are recommended, especially if you want to eat outside.
This was our first (and won't be last) visit to Secret Bao. Everything was so good and when we return we'll sample other items on the menu which we didn't experience last night. The Margerum Rose' was first-rate as was the White IPA. We sampled all four of the Bao Buns featured. The dessert of Matcha Green Tea Creme Brulee was excellent. Last but now least, our server - Tony - made what was an enchanting evening even more delightful. His attention to our every need and direction for menu selections was priceless.
The food is always amazing and their service is above and beyond!
Thank goodness we were able to get a table outside, because inside was so loud it would be impossible to enjoy a meal. However, the chairs outside were extremely uncomfortable. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. They don’t have a full bar, so one is limited to beer or wine to drink. Because of the discomfort of the chairs we decided we would not return, I did very much enjoy the food. I would call the service average.
Food was exceptional, but the ambience still feels more like fast casual vs. restaurant.
Loved all of the different baos, we sampled them all, all were different, fresh and well prepared. The halibut special was excellent and a good non-bao option. Servers were knowledgeable and attentive. We will definitely return.
Excellent service, delicious and innovative food. Can’t go wrong with any of the Baos, and the sauces in each dish are amazing.
Noise level goes up as evening progresses as restaurant has hard surfaces (which is cool), but it gets hard to hear your table mates.
The bao were outstanding--varied, innovative, and delicious. But the other two dishes didn't live up to this: the wonton were super spicy with barely any flavor; a high price for a small serving. The udon carbonara was okay, but this Italian-Asian experiment didn't really work well. The place was very noisy. We'd return for the bao, but not for other dishes.
Interesting menu. Could be a bit broader. Baos took a while. KFC bao was a bit disappointing. The cauliflower dish was very good.
We had a great experience with delicious food! Some highlights were the wontons, angry prawns, kfc BAO & sticky date cake
Very good food! Service too was excellent.
Will make it one of our go-to spots in Santa Barbara!
Excellent tasty food. I wish they had some lunch items on the dinner menu, but the food is great. Festive, comfortable dining room is also pretty noisy; but it’s fun!
Udon Carbonara was genius and the only way I think I can eat it in the future! The sticky date cake was devoured and I had no words. So delicious! Come for dinner you won’t regret it!
Fun and delicious food. Wish the service had been a little better.
The food is amazing! Service perfect!
This was our first time at Secret Bao. We tried the KFC Bao, which was recommended by a local art gallery manager. It was a pure delight, and I normally do not like fried chicken. We also ate the Shrimp Bao--lovely sauce. Carbonara Udon! Who knew how perfectly udon steps in for fettucini? The Wontons provided a tasty puzzle as we tried to figure out the seasoning ingredients.
I rarely drink but stretched a bit and manage to nearly finish a perfectly satisfying Night Lizard Yuzu Saison Ale. My husband paired his dinner with a Draughtsman Biru Rice Lager, also well appreciated.
Next visit, I am definitely leaving room for one of their amazing-sounding desserts.
My wife and children took a trip away from the Bay Area and decided to try the local food scene. Many waterfront restaurants were either too pricey or too chic for a family getaway.
Secret Bao was the perfect way to end our trip. We had tried different Baos: KFC, Mushroom, Fried Shrimp, and Pork Belly. My kids really enjoyed the KFC Bao. My wife preferred the Pork Belly while sipping on a Sparkling Hibiscus Sake. I settled on the Mushroom Bao.
We were all pretty satisfied with our selections but my youngest son gave our waiter two thumbs up for the Udon Carbonara.
We topped the meals off with the Donut Bao. The whole meal was very satisfying without feeling heavy. Service was sharp and helpful.
Great Quality Price ratio very fresh & friendly chef is awesome!
Secret Bao will not remain a secret for long - great food and service
Nice food. Nice waitress. Very nice place in a nice city.
Incredible food and service! Can’t wait to come back!
Secret Bao has great quality food that tastes amazing. There are flavor and texture combinations that I find thrilling. My first visit I tried one of the bao dishes, which was delicious. Our second visit was for the Korean paella, basically a bibimbap dish. Very delicious too. Brought leftovers home and had them for lunch with a fried egg I cooked. Highly recommended.
Bao’s and wontons were our favorite dishes. So flavorful!
Tasty food. Some a little too rich. Wines by the glass are expensive.
Overall delicious experience and we will be back. We splurged on the special menu item - lobster bao - and it was good but not worth $15. Everything else we tried was delicious and there is definitely more on the menu we wanted to try. GET THE KUNG PAO CAULIFLOWER - soooo good!
I was hoping for a little more excitement. We had the mushroom bao, just good, the eggplant, under seasoned, the wontons, very good but there’s a spice that isn’t for everyone, the meatballs, good but again, missing that OMG factor and cauliflower, good but I make better.
I think there’s room for improvement. The atmosphere is clean and open but cold, literally, with doors open on a cool evening.
Our server was great, very attentive!
We will try again and have a bao & beer or wine. Love the idea and always looking for ethnic!
Seems like a good snack place.
I’ve been wanting to come here for sometime… Love this place very hip, fabulous food, servers are friendly and helpful… Will be back
Incredible food, drinks, and service. Didn’t really know what to expect- our server gave her recommendations and she was right on point! The bossam, tuna tartare, eggplant, and the KFC bao were very tasty.
Amazing food!! Great flavors. Nice variety.
Great addition to the SB food scene. Very tasty contemporary Asian food. The baos are delicious, I haven't had a boring one yet. Good beer and wine selection. Looking forward to see them grow. This won't be a secret Secret Bao for long.
We loved the food! We had two Bao and two entrees and a small bottle of wine all of which we fantastic. Oh and we had the creme brûlée which was divine! Yay!
