Senator Restaurant

Good food, good service and very convenient location.
Food is delicious and never disappoints - many appetizers enough for pre theatre bite. Great service always knowledgeable and pleasant. Real old style gem in TO. Decor tired but somehow charming.
Great pre-theatre dinner!
Loved our dinner at the Senator before Anastasia. Our server Shannon was hilarious and great at her job. We will definitely be back!
We've visit the Senator many times! The service is excellent. We always enjoy our meal and ready to go to the theatre.
Food is Delicious. Great location if you're going to the Mirvish show. Small, so can be noisy and in some cases you are sitting very close to the table next to you.
Mirvish Theatre
Great place. Like stepping back in time. The decor is from a time we all forget. Service great, food good. Definitely worth a visit.
It wasn’t anything special. I was disappointed and didn’t feel I got value for my money
A lovely pre- theatre dinner with family. The burger, salmon special, soup and beet salad, and liver plate were wonderfully prepared. Our server was stellar! Highly recommended!
The Senator is a lovely spot for an evening of food and entertainment. We were impressed with everything — and we really appreciated learning about the room’s history from the owner. The staff were friendly and the entertainment was perfect. Definitely will be back.
First time there. Food, coffee and dessert were all excellent. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely go back.
Wonderful food and music
Very enjoyable and so easy to get to the theatre!
Best liver I have had in years! The service was great and everyone so friendly!
I would recommend the Senator from the point of view of the proximity to the Mirvish Theatre. Couldn’t be better. We ate upstairs which was a welcome fairly quiet spot. Our server was great, very pleasant but seemed to have to manage the entire room by herself. As a result food arrived before our bottle of wine. A definite faux pas. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana which I found rather dry. I asked for a small side green salad. While the ingredients were fine it was drowned in a vinaigrette that overpowered the greens. My dinner guest said he enjoyed the mushroom starter and the pasta with shrimp. My total bill before tip was $151.42. That is a lot of money for a simple dinner for two. I don’t mind paying that amount for a dinner out if the cuisine is excellent. I found the cuisine mediocre at best and expected more for the price.
A classic deli-diner for breakfast, or pre-theatre.
It’s a diner with great food and active manager
We were in Toronto to see some theatre and the senator provided the ideal ambiance especially having Andrew as our waiter. He was so pleasant, funny, cheerful and helpful making our dining experience perfect.
Love the history and it’s decor. The Duck was amazing. The rest of the plate was not. The veggie choice was wrong in my opinion and undercooked. The white beans were just ok as a starch. Messy plate presentation for the hype.
Waitress was lovely but very inattentive.
The musical guests were perfection in every way. Made the night for us. The Drink menu was on point. Great selection.
Overall just a ho hum experience. Expected much more for the price and history.
Good food, fun vibe, convenient to Mirvish Theatre.
Really enjoyed it but more expensive than I would have liked.
This was the second time in two weeks that we dined here. It is somewhat of a throwback, but definitely worth the time. The meal and service was outstanding!
The food was great plus the waitress was very friendly and fun. When we called for a reservation, they recommended that we be there at 5:45 so we would make it to our 8:00 Show in time. The timing was perfect... also, it was within walking distance to our hotel and the theatre, which was convenient.
The character of this spot cannot be underestimated. It has preserved its old world dining experience. Food was delicious, loved my whole leaf Caesar salad. Special was salmon dish, simply prepared, excellent flavour and well presented.
Best spaghettini meal I have ever had. Wonderful piano player. Had we not had a play to go to would have stayed until it closed. We will definitely be back.
Best ....... Frank McCarthy
Excellent friendly service. We arrived just at opening time so there were few other patrons and it was very quiet. Very relaxed retro ambiance (including background music) like stepping back in time to the 40's or so. Food was excellent. I would definitely recommend the Rack of Lamb. Would certainly go again.
We love the Senator! It's a great meal and a history lesson all wrapped up in a friendly classic diner atmosphere. It is onveniently located right downtown Toronto and perfect for dinner or breakfast if you in for a show. Liver and Onions to taste and Eggs Benny for breakfast were both spot on. Definitely going back!
Quaint, we had burgers and Elton John was right they are delicious
It's been years since I was here ... love the location and the building. Food was dated, plating was unimpressive and obviously not cooked to order
I have autism so off-peak time was good. Lighting subdued. Booths cosy! Stairs to the bathroom a tad steep...
Food predictable and consistent. Yummy frites good to find if you can't be in France!
From start to finish we had the best experience. Shannon and Iris were so personable. Felt like we had known them forever. We met Shelly too. Interesting maître de and super nice person. The meals Shannon suggested were oh so delicious!! We will definitely be back again and again!!
Thankyou!!!
Definitely too expensive for what you get. $27 for fish and chips with too much batter on very little fish is not worth it. $14 for a 5oz glass of mediocre wine not worth it. You have to select between a 5oz glass or a while bottle... no 1/2 litre option! Actually wine selection was not good.
It is very noisy..but still love it there....food is always good..our server was great.
It was very good It’s a must if you’re going to the theatre the staff is very friendly and I definitely recommend the chicken pot pie best I’ve ever had 😀
we were very disappointed to be seated upstairs when we made a reservation 5 days in advance for the downstairs.
Out with friend
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. it was the first time we have eaten on the second level, and found it to be absolutely charming. A great venue to host smaller private gatherings.
We loved the quaint atmosphere, the attentive service and the salmon catch of the day!
Food and service were excellent. Good vibe and very convenient for dinner prior to the theatre.
THE RACK OF LAMB WAS VERY TASTY, THE CHICKEN POT PIE AND SHORT RIBS WERE O.K. THE DESERTS WERE DELICIOUS.
