Definitely too expensive for what you get. $27 for fish and chips with too much batter on very little fish is not worth it. $14 for a 5oz glass of mediocre wine not worth it. You have to select between a 5oz glass or a while bottle... no 1/2 litre option! Actually wine selection was not good.
It is very noisy..but still love it there....food is always good..our server was great.
It was very good It’s a must if you’re going to the theatre the staff is very friendly and I definitely recommend the chicken pot pie best I’ve ever had 😀
we were very disappointed to be seated upstairs when we made a reservation 5 days in advance for the downstairs.
Out with friend
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. it was the first time we have eaten on the second level, and found it to be absolutely charming. A great venue to host smaller private gatherings.
We loved the quaint atmosphere, the attentive service and the salmon catch of the day!
Food and service were excellent. Good vibe and very convenient for dinner prior to the theatre.
THE RACK OF LAMB WAS VERY TASTY, THE CHICKEN POT PIE AND SHORT RIBS WERE O.K. THE DESERTS WERE DELICIOUS.
We have been there twice before. The first time was good. Food was delicious. We brought friends the next time and things were alright. This time it was freezing in the restaurant . The dressing on the Caesar salad wasn’t good. Different then before. I had salmon which I’ve had twice before. The fish was fine but certainly the wrong sauce on it. The potatoes were burnt and the snow peas were awful . Stringy, that you could not swallow them. My husbands pasta was just alright, but certainly lots of shrimp.
We expected the meal to be on a par as previous visits.
Service was brilliant! Thanks to Andrew for the great recommendations and awesome attention.
The Senator has always been a special place in ambience and value but the true measure of any restaurant is how you are treated.
And in this case there was a problem with my reservation and as usual on a Friday night, The Seantor was at capacity with a pre show crowd. It wuld have been very easy for them to say that with apologies , there was nothimng they could do for me.
But Shelly, the manager went out of his way to accommodate me, to make sure there was no disappintment for me and my guest that night. That's what you remember, that extra effort. That's what builds customer loyalty.
This is such a good restaurant. No pretenses, feel comfortable, food is good and service attentive and cheerful. The noise level is pretty high, but given the structure of the place, that is inescapable. Portions are not big---but so good one is tempted to double the order. Accommodating special requests is done with grace and a smile.
Recommending a friend comes with the thought that this great little restaurant will become even busier and reservations will be needed weeks in advance! lol
Great food and the staff wonderful very caring and attentive especially catered to theatre crowd
It's my 30th year dining at The Senator. Hopefully that says it all.
we are from burlington.. and each time we are at the theatre across the street, senator is our "go to".. thanks for being there.. staff are great.. and so is food.. and service.. 'til later.. karen.
Very enjoyable room with good ambiance. Food was very tasty, and service was excellent
EXPECT GRDAT FOOD, BUT NO MORE SHEPPARD'S PIE. DON'T TRY TO HOLD A CONVRSTION THAT MUST BE PRODUCTIVE OR SHARED...DO A LOT OF HAND WAVING OR TEXTING...NOISE LEVEL IS VERY HIGH...NO DAMPENING ACCOUSTICS THERE!
Our burgers were overdone especially the one ordered medium rare.
The onion soup was expensive and disappointing.
We had not been back for several years but the meal was disappointing
Pre theatre dinner. Across the street from the Mervish theatre.
Tight seating and a bit loud. Pricy for the quality, but tasty. The jalapeño corn bread amuse bouche was a nice touch. Frites were excellent. Service outstanding.
As always a wonderful meal. Liver and onions is a favourite for me as no one else in the family likes it but at the Senator it is cooked to perfection and a super treat for me! Lots of veggies that are also cooked properly!! Servers are always so amicable and make you feel so valued. Reservations are a must due to the popularity of this place!!
Our Caesar salad was the best we’ve ever had! We loved being upstairs!
Wonderful, friendly staff— food is delicious
As always, our experience at the Senator Restaurant was relaxing and an excellent experience. Hence, we continue to return because of the friendly staff, great service and tasty food.
Reliable, friendly, great atmosphere, always a treat . Great menu options, no bad choices.
Always friendly and professional. GREAT food. Would recommend it anytime to everyone
Shelly and the waitress were OUTSTANDING! When we come down again we would prefer not to be right by the kitchen doors.
Enjoyed an excellent bottle of Australian red wine with our meal. The food was enjoyable, loved the roasted potatoes, however I received the tail part of the salmon which was a bit over done. Loved our waitress and the excellent personalized service. Will be back soon....
The Senator provides good food with very pleasant and attentive service. It is loud and busy but that just enhances the atmosphere. It is a fun place-not somewhere you'd go for a romantic dinner!
The food was good but not spectacular and for the type of restaurant that it is - Retro Diner - it is far too over-priced. For a beet salad, short ribs with mashed potatoes and undercooked vegetables, and a 5oz glass of wine, the bill including tax and 15% tip, came to $72 - for one person. That’s a lot for this type of food and restaurant.
We enjoyed the visit to the Senator,it was a very good experience and we will definitely return
Great restaurant with old time vibe. Great food, nothing fancy but well done. An old Toronto throwback with tight booth seating. A good place to go before the show.
Always reliable‼️ Like the new selections. Always fun & I love the ambience.
Very tight seating. Ordered pasta which came out watery and very soft. The portion came out as a side order and was extremely small especially for $18. Rest of food was just OK. Only bright spot was our server who was vey apologetic.
Found the menu much more restrictive and higher priced. Service was poor even after the waiter was told we had tickets he was very slow with dessert & coffee.
Cool retro decor and relaxed atmosphere. Would rate it higher but $30 for the pasta “special” was too much, given portion size and 4 shrimp.
We went for dinner and a show. Both were fabulous and a great value for the money. Intimate space, great talent with Alex Pangman, and very good food.
Restaurant needs a renovation. It looks prey old, tired and dingy. Burger was good, not anything out of the ordinary. Cesar salad was sad... lettuce was fresh but the dressing was dolloped on the top. Service and staff was the only positive experience. Definitely off my return list.
We like the retro decor, but it’s a bit dull and sad. Needs some livening up. Maybe a fresher wall colour would help. (I am a designer, so attuned to this!)
Also, the banquettes are too upright- not very comfy. Sad colour too.
Service was excellent.
Food was serviceable, good but not inspired.
Steak, and liver, were fine, if not divine.
Veggies were too garlicky.
Not sure we will rush back... needs some new energy.
