A beautiful restaurant with a beautiful view! The seafood was delicious and will be going back again for sure!
Overall great meal. However we were seated in the room between the inside and outside. Its lit up like a stadium (super bright) and is the main thoroughfare for all food and drinks going outside and dishes coming back. This makes for a noisy, very busy spot with little room for service to get by. I would ask NOT be be seated in this area if you go to Shea's... just not a relaxing experience. Other than that the food is great here... so are the drinks! The ambiance in the rest of the restaurant (inside or out) is otherwise very nice.
Jess was an awesome server. Views of Essex River so beautiful. Drinks were great. Fried calamari was very good. Cesar salad was ok. We will always go back, but not necessarily for the food but for the great ambiance! Burger and fries appeared to be very good.
Lovely spot. Food is good- a little pricey. There was a large fan on for much of the meal. Covering didn't protect from late day sun- some at table had sun in their face.
We both had the Caribbean Mahi, which was outstanding. The Caprese Salad was amazing. Jessica was an outstanding waitress. Great place.
Great waitstaff and fantastic view of the sunset on the patio. Would definitely be back.
The views are incredible! Plan on going during sunset and request a table with a view, or better, outside. Service was great. Our table had the burger, fish and chips and baked haddock. Burger and fish & chips were both great. Haddock entree was served with potato’s, mushroom, spinach and a tomato marinara-type sauce, I found it a strange combination, at $30, I’ve had far better. Food all seamed a bit overpriced. Worth going for the incredible view!
I had the swordfish special and it was perfection. We sat outside "on the rail" and there is no better view in Essex County. Surprisingly there were no bugs and looking at the river and the marsh is so peaceful. An outstanding dining experience. Since reopening after Covid lockdown the food has been consistently off-the-charts yummy.
Nice place for dinner, excellent seafood and really enjoyed the Coubion , my wife had mahi-mahi with jerk rub, nice to try different flavors. Wine list is excellent too!
Excellent food, great cocktails, unbelievable view
Amazing experience. We were meeting family for the first time in ages and had THE BEST meal, service and ambiance. Can’t beat it!
Excellent food and excellent service from Naomi. We enjoyed watching a few boats come in to dock while we enjoyed a delicious meal.
beautiful river views from outside deck. delicious food and wine. great summer spot!
Excellent food and service. Lobster roll was overflowing. Onion rings were amazing! And calamari the best ever!
We have been going to ‘Shea’s’ for years… love the patio on the right- great addition a few years back ! Great Oysters & Wine - wish they had steamers more often- but still a nice menu for what they do- primarily fish. Love that river view! We had Lucy for our server the other day - terrific, friendly, & good timing. Looking forward to our next visit.
Keep the lunch menu as an option after
4pm Everything was excellent!
Retirement Dinner for friend.
Cant beat the views from the deck! food was outstanding!
The food and service were excellent. Plan to return soon.
Idyllic, peaceful water view of Ipswich River. Food, service, and ambiance is 5 star. Fried Ipswich clams the best!!
We arrived at Shays by boat. And had a nice greeting and the food and service was very good.
We had a nice dinner with family. Will probably go back in the future.
It was a beautiful night, food and drinks were delicious. Our waitress was new and did her very best to make our evening great!!
Will definitely be going back:)
We were seated outside on their patio. Although it was raining, we sat under a covering. Food was delicious but the service time was a little slow. However, atmosphere was excellent and the food was very tasty ( and served hot).
Great food is back at Shea's. They found a new chef after some turmoil during Covid pandemic. Staff is very friendly and the service was excellent.
Oysters were fresh and wonderful with mignonette sauce swordfish was very fresh and well cooked view is spectacular
Cozy and beautiful on the river in the rain.
The service is very slow …. No organization among staff … had to ask who our waitress was after sitting at table for 15 minutes… we were never told about dinner specials … saw them on the board on way out … food was cold… very $$$ for the service … expected much more
Shea’s is the best.
The service was slow but not because of the wait staff. They're desperate for help right now. One bartender couldn't keep up and kitchen was slow. Wasn't crazy about the Jerk Mahi, just ordered the wrong thing. Everyone else liked their meals. Don't bother with charcuterie board.
Fine for a casual night out. Probably should have sat on the deck, but it was dusk and low tide - which means bugs!!! The menu is small - which makes it easy to make a decision! Our service was a little tough. We had a great waitress, but I was disappointed in how slow the bar service was. We ordered a margarita (which was tequila on the rocks - yuck) and a beer... probably took about 15-20 minutes to get. Our friends that joined us late, ordered a bottled beer each - which also took 10-15 minutes. There were 2 bartenders and neither of them was overly busy. Need to step up the pace! The food was fine. Nothing fancy. HOWEVER, you really can't beat the views from Shea's dining room!
Our server was awesome. The view was nice but unfortunately low tide and no wind equals lots and lots of gnats so we had to move inside. The food was very good and the drinks were decent enough. The restaurant itself is definitely one of the better ones around here and I’d definitely go again.
Giant windows and wonderful view of the river and salt marshes. Very wide menu, and not completely dominated by clams and seafood! Giant bar, large deck and at least three fireplaces; so it's cozy in any weather or season.
A great place for a quiet lunch- wonderful views, attentive service and delicious foods. Try the mussels appetizer.
We love Shea's! Food is always great and the service is consistently outstanding. In the summer, the views of the river are phenomenal.
Food and service were excellent. All four diners cleaned their plates. Only negative was where we were seated, which was in a brightly lit hidden upstairs area with only four tables. View may have been nice during the day, but at night all you saw were dark windows. Hostess said all other tables were reserved because it was Valentines Day, but we also had a reservation. We will go back for the delicious food but will know to request a table in a different area.
We have dined at Shea's many time and continue to do so because the food and service are excellent, the staff are great and the view is beautiful. We also particularly enjoy the Sunday Brunch, the best Eggs Benedict I've had anywhere.
This was probably our 15th visit to Sheas over the years. Same old...same old...great cuisine, warm but not over attentive service...whether in the dining room or on the deck. The view is always the cherry on top!
I was really looking forward to dining here as I have heard great things. It started out fine. We ordered drinks and some chowder. The chowder was delicious. I tried to order a glass of wine and they didn’t have what was on the menu, which I found a bit weird. My husband got the special which was a seafood casserole. He enjoyed it. The other 3 of us got the filet mignon and it was just ok. It really didn’t have any flavor. It came with Lyonnaise potatoes and asparagus. There were 4 slices of potato and 4 pieces of asparagus. Neither was very flavorful. For $38 a plate, I expected a better dinner.
The server was good. She seemed a little confused and asked us if we would like another drink after we had already ordered one. Her response was that it was probably sitting at the bar.
For $317 for 4 people, of which only 2 had 2 cocktails, was a bit pricey to not have great food and service. Will not be back.
Service was great. Prices abit high. Portions a bit small.
