We travel a lot and Somerset was one of the best restaurants we've been to in a long time. Wow! Wow! Wow! Amazing food!
Turn down the music. Can’t converse nor even hear the server which really impacts the overall experience.
The setting for this restaurant is beautiful. Young crowd mixed with baby boomers wanting to see what all the fuss is about. Our bartender was lovely. Very patient with me. The hostess was a doll. Very sweet. The waiter was a snob. No other way to describe him. My chicken sandwich was tasty accept for the burnt bun. When I asked the waiter for new bun lid, showing him it was burnt, he walked away. He did return promptly with a properly toasted one and put it on the table with no apology. His personality did a 360 when he noticed I was paying the check.😂. I don’t mind paying a little extra for food or drinks when the atmosphere and people watching is great. Not a fan of snobby waiters. Hope day got better and others were treated nicer.
Their atmosphere is amazing . However the service is okay. Nothing exceptional. The food was Slightly above the avg quality but nothing special either. So I recommend it only for once but not twice .
This was by far the best experience I’ve had in years. The food was beyond amazing! Everything that we ordered was beautifully plated and so flavorful. The dining experience far exceeded our expectations and we are looking forward to dining at Somerset again very soon.
Best kale salad in Chicago
Great food and excellent lunch service.
The octopus, corn and cod fritters, mushroom gnocchi and prickly situation drink were all so delicious!
Server was clueless
We had an exceptional time at Somerset for dinner on a Sunday night. We had a table of five women and enjoyed the selection. Personally, I had the steak, but the cod fritters and Mai Tai really stole the show! Our server was friendly and knowledgable.
Brunch - Somerset is one of the best designed restaurants in Chicago that I have been to. The floor plan flows nicely and the decor is sleek yet welcoming. Nick was our server and treated us so well, answering every question we had about the menu as well as allowing us to customize some of our entrees and drinks. The food was incredible. We ordered the coffee cake to share and it was to die for. I ordered the breakfast burrito and I would recommend you get it too, you won’t be disappointed. The chicken and French toast was the perfect combination of buttery, sweet and salty, not too overbearing at all. The brioche French toast is pretty sweet but super tasty nonetheless (I would split it with the table).
Service was absolutely atrocious - we were seated at 9p (so the rush was over) and it took our server 35 minutes to acknowledge us after we sat down - and only because we had to ask 2 separate food runners to grab her for us. She didn't apologize for her neglect/tardiness, and certainly did not make up for it. We felt like the forgotten table the entire night. Took over 45 minutes to get our first round of drinks, and over 20 minutes each round (2) after that. This was my 4th time dining here and will absolutely be my last
Everything was excellent
Server was beyond polite and helpful - absolutely loved the vibe and it was the perfect spot to take my mom visiting Chicago
Loved the ambience and our lunch was delicious. Highly recommend!
Had a great meal, service was excellent. Was very noisy, there were 6 of us and we couldn’t hear each other very well.
Terrific interior design, fresh modern menu, hip and energetic atmosphere. Because we made our reservation for 10 am last Sunday, we beat the rush. And there was a rush.
Service was great! Sat us down quickly. Just a bit too noisy.
Wonderful dining experience with the most mundane dish turned on its head. Totally unique flavor pairings; excellent service; casual & comfortable ambiance. A definite “must try” for your palate!
Dinner is always fabulous here. Great place to share dishes. We love the beets tartare, grilled octopus, whole chicken, and pasta with squid. Everything is so flavorful!
Had to wait 30 minutes for our table. Food was cold, service was bad, wine glasses came with lip marks on them. Disappointing and upset I spent 200 dollars on brunch.
Had brunch at Somerset today. It was ok. The restaurant was very full and noise. Our server was nice but the food took ages to get (probably 40 minutes from the time we ordered). I had the eggs benedict and it was super bland. My daughter had the avocado toast. She said it too had no flavor. Over all just a mediocre experience.
Everything was wonderful, can't go wrong with the chicken or the pasta.
Jonah and the rest of the staff took amazing care of my partner and I as we dined to celebrate our anniversary. The verison and lacquered duck was amazing, the presentation and ambiance top notch, and the service was second to none. I felt so well cared for and a little spoiled, to be frank! My thanks to the whole crew; they should be commended for making the entire experience special and so memorable.
I was excited to go here based on the good reviews and it was my girlfriends birthday so I figured Somerset would be the perfect place to go since neither of us had tried it yet!! Going in excited, we quickly learned that we would be doing a lot of waiting through out our experience. Even though we had a reservation at five and it wasn’t busy at all, everything we ordered took FOREVER to come out and we were sitting there for over TWO HOURS!! At the end when we were ready to get out of there, that was a whole other process in itself. When they took my card to pay, they LIED and told me it declined. Our original waiter then came back to tell us that it wasn’t really declined, they just accidentally charged the card for someone else’s bill and completely down played the situation saying that it was no big deal and ignored the fact that we’re were completely LIED to! We are extremely disappointed with our experience as a whole. The octopus had no flavor at all and the shrimp was not properly cleaned.
I’ve dined here twice now. The first time, I would’ve given it higher marks. The room is lovely, they honor reservations, Seating comfortable and table space far enough apart for conversation. The menu you has something for everybody. My vegetarian guest was pleased as were the carnivores. Special mention to the hostess who always made us feel welcome. The food is delicious. Now the bad news. I took four overseas guests here on a very uncrowded snowy night. We were offered and served sparkling or still water as we were seated. The server returned to take drink orders. Since there were only two of those we gave our dinner orders at the same time. The two guests from London were most impressed when the server gladly agreed to split two of the entrees. One was a cheeseburger but was ordered with no cheese. All 5 entrees and 3 sides came together. The cheeseburger came with cheese and the server gladly took it back and said he’d bring a plain hamburger as requested. That guest waited while everyone else ate. I was trying to get any server’s attention as all water glasses were empty and the drinks never came. Most of the tables were empty and the servers were standing around but I couldn’t get anyone’s attention. Finally the second burger came and I was able to request water and our drinks then. The second burger also had cheese and was sent back. By this time, that diner had lost his appetite after eating bread, French fries and sides so we told them to forget it.
We asked to speak with the manager who was most apologetic and said there was no excuse for this. she offered to comp desserts and since we didn’t want any she insisted on comping the entire meal. We told her that this was not necessary and mistakes happen. She was insistent, so we paid the bar bill and a tip on what the bill would have been. Clearly she was the consummate professional. I hope her staff takes some pointers from her.
I will be back. The manager really saved the day.
We are never disappointed here. Somerset has a great mixture of vegetarian and non- veggie options. Something for everyone!
Had a great knowledgeable server, food was very good. Would definitely go back!
Very good service
Great birthday spot, energetic without being too loud.
Not on Sunday for brunch - too crowded, wait for table despite reservation, outrageous noise level, limited menu.
The service from the Host to our servers was excellent. Friendly, professional and non intrusive. The food and menu are excellent ,
Something for everyone! Ambiance and decor are classy. Will definitely be returning often.
Nice place which was accommodating to a large group with multiple choices.
Over-priced, terrible tasting food. I was in on Saturday for brunch and have to say this was by far the worst breakfast food I've ever had in my life. I couldn't even eat my eggs. I got the 'Veggie Scramble'. It tasted like sugar was added to the eggs, and there was a pitiful amount of squash pieces in the eggs. Then there was a bizarre side salad? With eggs? for breakfast? The potatoes were over-cooked and charred and tasted like pure oil. This was the most over-priced brunch I've ever had. I walked away spending $27 with tip and had to go home and cook a meal immediately. Wait staff was very nice though!
Somerset is my neighborhood go-to. Staff are always welcoming and the food is excellent. I love sharing this place with friends and family. Thank you for being so wonderfully reliable and love that the menu includes my favorites but is always evolving.
Amazing food, amazing service, great place!
Great time at brunch. Fun drinks, great food and excellent service. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. A perfect outing!
We had a phenomenal service. The young lady waited on us Carrie Ann was delightful with a great sense of humor and great customer service. She made our experience even greater than expected. We will go back for the food and ambience and most definitely to be waited on by Carrie Ann again
Was an anniversary dinner celebration. We ordered the ravioli and half chicken to share. Both were outstanding and full of flavor. We enjoyed the food and ambiance at Somerset.
We have not been to Somerset in several months, and wish we had. Dinner last night was wonderful, from the new, seasonally appropriate menu to the always warm and polished service from Duane. Every offers burrata and tomato’s but this version is very sophisticated and very delicious. The scallops with a Fennel and corn coulis, was perfect as was the grilled short rib. I’ve never eaten better potato purée. A wonderful evening.
