Beef Tri Tip, marinated and braised in Red Wine and Spices, served with Red Cabbage and Spätzle
with Whipped Cream
This place was highly recommended but we went kind of late and the food was cold and the Potato pancakes were hard as a brick. The server was great and the manager took the meal off of our bill which was very kind.
Excellent genuine German food
It was delicious. Was such a good place fir a good change of foods. Not pizza or burger.
Dined outside after more than a year away. Great service and the food is still good, but the bread isn’t what it used to be.
Always great food and delicious German beer.
We had lunch inside where it was cool and quiet. They were short staffed and you could see the servers running around. However, every time they interacted with us, they were sweet and kind. The food was fantastic!!
They have a great selection of different styles of beers on tap - more than just IPAs. It was enjoyable on a summer afternoon where I could comfortably chat with my wife in a family-friendly environment.
The food was amazing, safety protocols fantastic and our server was the best.
We have been regular patrons for the last 15 years and we continue to be happy to indulge in our favorite German dishes….sometimes you just have to have a schnitzel dinner.
Courteous waitpersons. Abundant and flavorful food servings.
Went here with some friends to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. It was a chill spot. Not too busy. Service was great. Food was tasty.
Returning after a 2 year hiatus was rewarding. The food was as spectacular as I remember. The service was excellent. I was happy I made reservations because the walk in line was long. The potato pancakes were fabulous as I remember. Super crispy with thin strands of potato. I don't know how they do it. Their beer list was extensive and diverse.
The Jäger schnitzel and bratwurst wer fabulous. I had the spaetzel with black forest ham. Super rich and creamy.
Call for the specials. I was looking for the roasted pork belly that they had as a special the week before. Darn.
We've been to Speiskammer many, many, many times and have always been happy with the food and service (5 stars across the board in the past). This recent visit was perhaps just an off night for the restaurant.
A wonderful place to eat outdoors with fabulous food!
Great Father’s Day experience:) Danke!
I love this German restaurant. Food is perfect as well as portions. You can have quiet indoor dining or fun outdoor group dining. Has a bar and live music often. Always get a table thou I always do reservations now.
It was great. The food is off the charts. Do yourself a favor and go.
We went for my husband’s birthday with our 7 month old daughter. They have a nice seating area outside where it was easy to bring her in a stroller. We saw a lot of other families with young kids; granted, we were there before 5pm. Food was great and service was fast. I would definitely recommend it, and looking forward to going back!
Not sure if this is due to the pandemic but quality has gone seriously down at this restaurant. The service is still great and staff is super friendly but the food was not as good. My pretzel was stale and also the portions were not as generous
It was our first time visiting Speisekammer on March 14, 2020—and it may have been our last meal out for a bit... if so it was the way to go out strong! I loved everything—from the pretzels and beer cheese to schnitzel, Spatzl, and struedel. I can’t wait for the chance to go back!
I reserved Speisekammer for our group of eight on Saturday, March 7th. We had to signal our server to get drinks, appetizers, and lunch. He ought to have been a bit more attentive for a large group. The beer and wine came promptly, as did the appetizers and lunch once ordered. The food was just OK. A few years ago when we all were last there, we thought our dishes were tasty and nicely presented. I sincerely hope this restaurant isn’t cutting corners to maintain or increase profits. I’d rather pay a bit more if it meant keeping quality high. We hope this isn’t the beginning of a slide into obscurity for Speisekammer. I’ll check it out from time to time, but I won’t bring our group there if things don’t change for the better.
I liked the space; the fireplace was lovely. I was disappointed in the food; it was not particularly flavorful. I wanted more seasoning in all of the food. My two friends felt the same way. One ordered the salmon salad, one ordered the wiener schnitzel and i had the stuffed cabbage rolls. we each found our food to be bland. i did like the salad dressing.
We never had a bad meal here....it is one of our favorites !
There was a large group in our room making more noise than typical
Looking forward to a big night with our newleywed kids. They sat us by the bathroom. The furthest corner from anything. We didn't know it was the bathroom because there was a curtain and no sign. But as the night went on the traffic by our table was busy. I thought going through OpenTable, we would have had a better table.
Even though it showed up written correctly on the final bill, one of our plates came out with the wrong meat on it(one covered in gravy). When returned, then it was at least a crispy schnitzel, but pork rather than veal. Now, though, the spaetzle had become fried potatoes. They graciously brought a side of spaetzle, but hmmm-get it right the first time? The cabbage rolls were ok-so well-cooked that the cabbage was thin mush. Mashed potatoes had no texture at all-whipped to death. The dessert list was small and nothing excited. How about a dark chocolate cake rather than German chocolate (which is NOT a German thing)? We reserved, but our table was right in front of the bar, so before the music began, people were standing close by.
Great food.... beer...drinks...
Great food n beer selection
The service was excellent. The waiter explained all about the beers n got as extra bread etc since we were all hungry. It was my birthday celebration n they made it special.
Great food and great service! I would highly recommend this restaurant.
noisy with absolutely no parking. food was just ok. expensive for what you got
This was our second lunch reservation and found to be with the food quality and service to be consistent. Have nothing negative say. Love everything on their menu. Excellent waitress. Would go back in a heartbeat
Met friends for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Arrived at opening 11:30 and felt silly for making reservations but the place soon filled up (not even a game day!). Great bar and of course German and other beers on tap from both local and from around the world. We shared a large meat plate (all their greatest sausage and pork hits) and a large mixed German salad plate (four different salads, all reasonably healthy). Finished off sharing the best strudel i've ever had (including places in Germany). Good value for the prices too. So fortunate to have Speisekammer local in Alameda!
Service was excellent and the drinks and apps arrived quickly. Hostesses warm and inviting.
Very flavorful and savory dishes, comfort food but with a pop. Fresh ingredients, deelish sauerkraut and sausage. Told my workplace in San Leandro, and they've gone 4 times now since November.
Love this place! Went for restaurant week lunch
We keep coming back here 5-7 times a year. It’s always good. Not many places have a dozen plus German beers on tap, cocktails, and tasty German food. Three generations in our family love it.
Convenient location for meeting with family and friends from Bay Area. TV’s convenient tu not intrusive. Food and service was very good, we’d return for that and the beer. Would like to go for dinner and live music. Potato pancakes, lunch special (restaurant week), pretzels and pastrami sandwich is highly recommended. The salmon salad was also a hit.
I am tempted to say "fast food" due to the service. We were seated promptly and ordered a bottle of wine. Took a bit of time to show up but that was fine as they had a good band playing. We ordered and specifically told the waiter to take a long time as we were not im a hurry and wanted to listen to the music.
Our salad and soup arrived quickly - my wife took one bite of her salad and I was on my first spoon of soup when our main course arrived. So we squeezed those onto our small table for two and let them cool while we finished our soup and salad. I probably should have sent them back.
We finished our meal before the band finished its first set. So much for a leisurely evening.
I will probably try again BUT will not order our main course until we are finished with the appetizer. Lesson learned.
Authentic German food (mostly for meat lovers but they do have at least one seafood and some vegetarian options), generous beer selection, great ambiance and friendly staff. In addition they have live music Friday and Sat nightS. We visit frequently and are rarely disappointed. They can accommodate large groups And weather permitting they have patio dining reminiscent of a Biergarten. Weekends are busy so to get a good table especially for larger group make a reservation.
A must visit each trip to Alameda. Last time a vegetarian friend grabbed my Jager schnitzel and was wolfing it down before I could warn her. Great selection of German bier. The flour-less chocolate cake is superb.
