A neighborhood gem. Delicious Italian fare, great service and friendly atmosphere.
We always have an enjoyable experience when we come to eat at this establishment.
A very nice neighborhood restaurant, with delicious Italian food. Service was most gracious and the prices were quite reasonable. I recommend it heartily.
This was our first indoor dining experience and it was a major success!Food was better than ever especially the Caesar salad, plenty of space between tables and a hard-working and very pleasant staff!
All around fantastic. Ravioli was by far the star!
I love this restaurant. Even if it’s take out or outdoor dining.
Absolutely terrible service!
I had booked a table for Valentines Day for 2. On arriving at the restaurant on time, it turns out that our table wasn’t ready, there were people standing in a queue and there were people with reservations an hour before mine who were still not seated.
We stood in the line while it was raining and no one even catered to us. About 20 mins later after speaking to the host, we were asked to sit inside the restaurant and wait for our turn to come. The host was extremely rude this whole time.
Another 20 mins and they approached us and told us that they won’t serve us anymore since they’re at capacity. This is after waiting for 40 mins and being told we will seat you soon. When I asked why they didn’t tell me before or why they took my reservation in the first place, they said “I was not the person who took your reservation”
What kind of horrible service is this? Throughout this whole time the staff was saying any random thing that first came to mind and not trying to help customers. They were also pretty disrespectful to a couple of people who were just seated.
Finally, we left along with 3-4 other people who had also reserved tables on Valentines Day!
Out of Towners and it was Valentine’s Day. It was out door seating only during covid but they did the best they could and everything was great.
I booked a week beforehand for a Valentine's Day dinner. We arrived at 7:15 sharp and had to wait 1 hour (a whole one hour of 60 minutes) before we had a table.
Perhaps our so-so dining experience was attributable to Valentine’s Day. The warm focaccia was outstanding the first time, soft, moist, tender. The second round was very very very dry...and stale.
We ordered the Valentine’s Day special, a lackluster meal at best. Stick to the regular menu. Our romaine salad appetizer was drowning in salad dressing and should have been returned to the kitchen, but they were so slammed. The restaurant was short staffed for a 2 pm late lunch so we waited quite a while for the food to come out.
Our server did her best so we patiently waited...and waited...and then out came the spicy lobster ravioli and truffle mushroom ravioli. You could barely taste the truffle mushroom, or any mushrooms for that matter. The lobster ravioli on the other hand was very good, served hot.
PRICE
The price point was very fair since the $90/couple (before tax & gratuity) included a bottle of inexpensive Prosecco and a generously sized tiramisu dessert to share. But the salad and main ravioli course did nothing to impress. Yet they were very generous with their portion sizes.
I think this meal was an off-day for the cooks. We’ve been there for many many years where the regular menu items were simply outstanding, no matter what you ordered. Also, the service has always been exceptional.
We will definitely go back, but will stick to the regular menu from now on.
Absolutely delicious from a well-dressed and prepared salad to scrumptious pasta and a fantastic and well-priced mixed grill with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The prices are more than fair and the portions are ample. I'm not sure that anyone left without a container for their leftovers to enjoy at another meal. Special place.
Spiazzo has done a great job setting up an outdoor dining environment. Their food is delicious and the service was friendly and helpful. Great spot to dine if you're in or near the West Portal neighborhood -- and worth traveling there to try it out too!
Enjoyed the evening(outdoor dining)despite cold weather. We we’re so supportive with the local restaurants and Spiazzo is always a wonderful place to have dinner. Great and friendly service by Lupita. Also,to help the people serving is being generous by giving extra. Hopefully things will be back to normal dining
Everyone was kind and there was quick service!
Our experience was via "take out" on Christmas Day. The menu was prix fixe with a lamb entree ... but the staff was very accommodating to handle menu substitutions for my lactose intolerant spouse. The lamb was among the best I've ever had. Terrific "sides" and dessert as well. It was a truly wonderful meal experience given the circumstances. We will be back!!
Great food!!!
They weren't opened to the public but seemed to be having a private event. At first denied accepting reservations and then said they had called everyone to cancel. Not true. I had even called the week before to understand what the outside dining would be like.
Great food, friendly staff, inviting atmosphere, would go again!
We love Spiazzo! It's a friendly place with good food and great service. We've been regular customers for over 30 years.
Good to eat indoors for a change
We had our very first inside dining experience at Spiazzo. We had intended to eat outside but no one was there at 5:30 so we thought we'd do it. The waitress/host/manager was a little overwhelmed but very nice when she was able to come by our table. The helper was very gracious and thoughtful. The food was excellent (I had the pappardelle with lamb and my husband had the sole.) Everything tasted fresh and it was so nice to have table service and not do dishes!
We've always had great meals here. Service this visit was exceptional. Never disappointed.
Great Service!
Casual dinner for two. Good portion sizes and delicious food.
Corner tables were a little small and easily becomes a space issue with wine, water glasses and plates.
Outdoor seating available.
Outside got cold but expected in SF if no heaters
It was cold and the door was open, so food cooled off quick and it was loud where we were sitting. The food was good, and service was very pleasant.
Tables were outside due to COVID so ambiance not so great. Service was very good. Had a pizza and some ravioli. Pizza was definitely the better of the two. The ravioli was just okay. Had red wine that was served warm. Pizza was very good.
After making a reservation for 7pm the day beforehand, when we arrived right before 7pm, our requested table had just been given to another couple. We were given another table located on uneven sidewalk with no heater. We were disappointed that our specific request was ignored.
reservation times were not respected; others were also complaining about the 30 min wait; food not hot and service spotty
We ate out for the diary time in months at our favorite neighborhood place! It was wonderful. They had safeguards in place to keep us socially distanced.
We sat outside for dinner in their lovely “piazza” during a recent warm night and everything was excellent, service was great, our food (pasta bolonese, margarita pizza, halibut and risotto) was delicious. Five stars!
It was our 58th anniversary and a very disappointing experience. Service was terrible. We got our first course and did
Not see our server for 40 minutes. After we
finished our main course We waited another 30 minutes. I finally had to call the restaurant with my cellphone to get the check. We had to eat outside because of COVID-19. It was really cold and they had no
heat lamps.
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at Spiazzo on Saturday night. The food was great, the wine was delicious and our waitress went above and beyond! In addition, we loved their set up for outside dining!
Even in the midst of the pandemic, the food and service at this neighborhood bistro is top notch. The outside dining experience is a little less polished than at other locations in West Portal with more formal infrastructure built around the outside dining experience. I suggest more lighting, walls, and heating. Otherwise, if those things don’t bother you, find your great family style Italian fare here. Delicious!!!!
Dined on their deck on a very foggy night. It was fine as long as you were bundled up as there are no outdoor heaters. They did have blankets that we used. Food was awesome and very generous portions. My Caesar salad was super cold and crisp, just the way it should be. The bruschetta appetizer was 4 huge pieces loaded with delicious toppings. 2 were tomatoe and 2 were mushroom. I had the roast duck special with risotto, yummy. Enough to 2 people to share. Our friends enjoyed their petrale which they liked. We finished with a slice of very rich tiramusu. I have already recommended Spiazzo to another friend who lives in the city. I would definitely go back to try the fried calamari and the pastas which looked good too.
Eating outdoors at Spiazzo was a welcome adventure during the virus. That's why I said "Ambiance" leaves a bit to be desired. However, there are some good tables in corners and under the outdoor patio awning. As usual the pasta was delicious and the service very pleasant and attentive. We wish our dear Spiazzo well and look forward to dining indoors come 2021. Meanwhile, we'll be back for the outdoor dining experience -- fog willing.
Delicious food
Wonderful service.
Amazing experience. Warm and hospitable staff with a delicious menu.
First time here and very impressed. Service was personable and exceptional. All four entries were a hit. Perfectly cooked and flavorful. The portions are generous. Big dessert and wine selections. Will be back!
Fabulous choice for outdoor seating on Portola... highly recommend the Gnocchi! It’s a real treat to have table side service in this crazy new world!
Great service and great night!
