Stokehouse St Kilda Beach
Service very lacking, took ages to clear and no additional drinks offered. Food was good, not great however if you charge a premium than the taste should match, which they failed to do. I have definitely had much better.
A shame about the 2 hour window however understand the importance of turning over the tables.
The staff were excellent, wine knowledge impeccable, food sensational and a glorious sunny day.
I dined with another two couples last Saturday night. One of the couples had previously purchased a $200 voucher to use on the night to celebrate my birthday. When we attempted to redeem the voucher we were told that it had been purchased incorrectly for another restaurant and although the restaurant was part of the same group, we were told that it couldn't be used on the night and they would attempt to get it switched from the other restaurant to the Stokehouse in St Kilda. The voucher was switched across very efficiently the next day however, it creating an embarrassing situation for the couple that had purchased the voucher on the night that could have been avoided by honouring the voucher immediately and not re-issuing the next day.
Alex our waiter was excellent and the Sommelier equally excellent. Food amazing and the view is the best in Melbourne.
This is a critique of opentable not stoke house. Advised of dietary limitations and no dairy and no seafood and the first 2 courses were a butter dish and a seafood dish. I don’t know who messed this up but It was a very expensive night for what we got.
Now, Stokehouse Amazing. Seated in the best place in the venue. Staff were ok probably way to busy. Ambience excellent. Just a shame no one gave a rats about altering the meal choices on their fixed 4 course valentines dinner
Service & quality was excellent everyone was polite & we appreciated the fact the the staff had a conversation & were always asking if we needed anything
Food was absolutely beautiful! Venue is lovely and the view is great.
overall we had a great night. Sea views are always pleasant. Food was excellent but we had to wave down a staff member to take our order after receiving the menus 30 minutes earlier. Prices are "up there" in comparison to the small servings. Recommend the chips!
Great service on a busy night, excellent food would recommend it for a nice night out.
I’ve been a regular at The Stokehouse over the years and have always loved it. This recent visit was very disappointing and most particularly because the famous fish and chips did not live up to expectation. The fish was overcooked and dry and the chips were ordinary. Don’t like writing a poor review but can’t find it in me to say nothing.
Possibly the best restaurant view in Melbourne, the modern Stokehouse is architecturally beautiful inside and out. The restaurant in the late afternoon is filled with a lovely glow from the sun setting over the Cheetham wetlands towards the Southwest. The food is great, relatively simple with emphasis on fewer, higher quality ingredients presented immaculately. A new favourite for my family.
First visit to Stokehouse and it was very enjoyable. Staff were so friendly and helpful, without being over the top. The Food was exquisite - most amazing Roast Eggplant and the Roast Chicken was also very tasty. Although it was an overcast day - sitting next to the window we felt we were on the Bay. Great lunch time atmosphere.
The menue was very limited. Just five main courses to choose from.
Prices are not according to the quality of the food.
A fabulous night with an exceptional view and perfect service.
I've already recommended Stokehouse to a number of our friends. We had the best time whilst we were there. Fabulous sommelier, very relaxed and knowledgeable and gave us some excellent suggestions that we would not normally have tried. A great way to celebrate. The food... fabulous, thank you!!
This is my favourite style of dining, all the quality and service of a fine dining restaurant without the attitude. The staff take time to know you, the food is unbelievable and the view takes care of the rest
Repeat visitor. Two or three times a year in old and new incarnations. Great ambience and service. Will visit again.
Nice atmosphere. Beautiful setup. Excellent services. That's all. Food is average. Below are the score (1-5). I have tried Oysters (5) Rissoto (5) Cavier (4) Grill Shellfish (1) Lamb loin (2) Wagyu beef (1) Sorbet (1) Pavlova (4).
Extra 12% on top of the already expensive menu, i think i would not recommend it to my friend.
Service was poor, waiting a long time to order a drink, then another long time to get food menus. Then waiting a long time to order food.
Food wasn't great. Not up to the standard you would expect from stokehouse. Bland over cooked fish.
Good wine list.
Decided to skip desert, as mains were disappointing.
Lovely meal with brilliant service and incredible view, but be prepared to eat quickly - they want your table back within 2 hours. So not ideal if you want to settle in for a leisurely afternoon. But if you're happy to eat quickly, they'll find you space at the bar to finish your drinks / have your dessert.
A delicious lunch - just a little rushed
It was a special occasion and we had a table of extremely, over the top yobbos swearing and yelling at the top of the voices! Tottally ruined our experience and really couldn't even enjoy our food!!! Our thoughts of the night are completely mared! I really didn't want to pay for that experience!!!!!
Very expensive, very loud, bad service, slow with the food/average food. Extremely stingy servings for the price eg: 4 people on the table yet the share plates would have 3 pieces of broccoli, octopus or what ever they were serving. When you are paying $400 for a meal maybe they could put one extra carrot or broccoli that might cost them 50 cents on the plate so that every one at the table might have one.
Great looking venue with a lovely view but I wont be going back there again.
Lovely restaurant! The raw bar was amazing, but the mains were bland. All in all it was a lovely evening though.
Its private. Are you sure you want to know?
Fabulous brunch with lovely staff. They were highly attentive but not overly visible allowing us to enjoy the view, the food and our conversation at leisure.
Lovely environment. Beautiful views. Food was good but my fish batter was over cooked. Service was a bit officious.
I would agree with other reviewers that while food was good, it is overpriced for small portions. The noise level was pretty high, as there was a private event going on behind a curtain that did little to muffle the voices and laughter. We were given one slice of bread a piece after seating, and were not asked if we would like more. The waiter took up our bread plates and the cheese curd, which was very tasty, by the way. Our dinner consisted of the lamb loin and the battered-fried fish and chips, and a side of cocktail potatoes. Food quality was good, but we’ve had better on both dishes elsewhere. Lamb portion was 2 pieces, but i was expecting a little more, but not too surprised. I would call it typical European portion size. We did not have alcohol or any other courses, and still spent more than $100 before tip. Overall, it was not a bad experience, but just didn’t live up to my expectations after it had been recommended to us by a friend.
It was a delightful venue and the food was delicious and well presented. The service was attentive. For us this was a more expensive evening that usual but worth it for a special event to celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary.
Expensive I can handle but tiny portion sizes, poorly cooked (raw carrots) and rushed service leaves me hollow. I should have gone to rockpool.
No service care, no one asked during meal or afterwards is everything ok....
Love it! Food, friends, fun and great view and people watching
Had a fabulous seafood meal, wonderful service and great view of the bay. Only criticism is the noise level which had the waiter having to ‘yell’ at our table of two to be heard ! This really needs to be addressed by the owners. Due to this would steer clear unfortunately if taking a large group or if wanting a romantic night out.
Stunning location and a great job done the rebuild. The wine was great. The food was ok. Overpriced for what we were served up.
Stokehouse has always had a great reputation and we were excited to try it. Came away disappointed.
Amazing meal with a great view. I loved the service. Our server was fantastic and so was William the sommelier. Definitely recommend!
I was very disappointed with the menu, the fish and chips come out with only four hand cut chips on the plate with three over cooked battered fish pieces
My starter did not come out with there rest of the group and this meant I was sitting there with no food in front of me for a good amount of time
the drinks were made very average for the amount charged
I love good food and services and happy to pay but not a brand name when I dine
I spent $1000 on the 12 Jan to take some friends a close Family to dine there but will not do it again as there is so much great food in Melbourne
Lovely food and great surroundings. Serrvice was exceptional, my only other comment was the wine list. Whilst extensive in parts I also found it lacking in other areas.
The food and wine were excellent however we were disappointed by the service. A number of the staff did not appear to be familiar with the wines offered by the glass which resulted in incorrect wines being poured (this happened twice - it seemed there was confusion between Sauvignon Blanc and savignin even when we ordered by reference to the producer). The wine pours were also inconsistent which was also a bit disappointing, as there was no indication on the menu as far as we saw that any pours would be less than standard. The people in the black shirts however knew what they were doing. Maybe it was our mistake but we were just disappointed as everything else was great.
Location is fab and the food mostly great. Previously have absolutely loved the food, this time in my opinion some dishes had too much going on and over powered the high quality sea food.
Service was very average - attitude, slow and unattentive.
We enjoyed all aspects of our dining experience. The restaurant was highly recommended to us and did not disappoint.
Amazing and personable service by all the staff. All the dishes are exceptional. Looking forward to go there again.
I’ve lived in St Kilda for forty years and I’ve always loved its diversity especially in dining experiences. So as far as I’m concerned no trip to Melbourne is complete without visiting The Stokehouse as it’s a completely unique and unforgettable indulgence particularly if you’re celebrating some occasion. And Life IS a celebration, isn’t it?
