SubUrban Bar & Kitchen
The food, drink and service were all great.... my only "change" would be where we sat. We were right in front of the band so it was very difficult to hear or converse with anyone in our party.
Good food, great service. Calamari and Mac and cheese apps are delicious choices. Burgers including impossible burger and chicken sandwich were good too. Will return.
Explaining SubUrban Kitchen is a little complicated. It is essentially two very different restaurants in one large space. One side is a lively pub/bar atmosphere, with various types of seating. The other is a large, bland dining room, with pretty much no ambience. This area seems to be for older people and families with young children. It is quiet and bland. Both sides of the restaurant serve the same, basically okay gastro pub food. The problem is that on the last two times we have tried this restaurant, we are shown to a bad table in the dining room. On the most recent occasion, I asked if we could possibly be seated in the pub area, but the male host dismissively replied, “no.”
On the bright side, we had an awesome server, Jimmy. He was friendly, knowledgeable about the food, and efficient. He almost saved the evening. If the restaurant was exclusively a lively bar/pub, I might even consider giving it another try, but I really don’t like the dining room at all, and it’s not worth the risk of a repeat experience. The kicker was when they reported us to OpenTable as a no show, when we were sitting in the dining room.
Everything from the food to the service to the atmosphere of the restaurant, everything was amazing. We’ll definitely be back.
Pleasantly surprised that this old standby has been revived by old friends. We were a big fan of the former Nicole's Ten and now the former owner/chef have taken over the former Morris Tap & Grill to put out the Suburban Bar & Kitchen. Very wide ranging menu with traditional favorites and eclectic takes on new opportunities, friendly service, and plenty of room, made for a welcome addition to the local scene.
Delicious!!!! Every meal and every drink has been amazing
It was fair. Food was ok. Salad was wilted a little. The pizza was very good. Sea to See dish was good. Just an average restaurant.
Great food in a fun place to be it's really nice atmosphere excellent bartenders excellent service. Recommend for everybody.
We went for an early New Years Eve dinner with 7 in our party.
Sangrias were very tasty, the beer our friend had was very good, too. All of our small plates were awesome - Lamb pops, Brussels sprouts, pizza and the salad were all very tasty!
Main dishes were excellent, too. Crab/Shrimp with risotto in a seafood bisque, Prime Rib done perfectly, Seafood pot pie, Sea Bass, were all outstanding.
Desserts were great, the bread pudding was a real treat!
Our server Doug was terrific - very personable and helpful!
Congratulations to Chris Masey and his team in the kitchen for a wonderful meal on New Years Eve!
Very disappointed in this restaurant! I was hoping that with the refresh of the prior restaurant this was going to be my new go to place NOPE that won’t be happening! Poor food quality, poor wait staff and the same old restaurant atmosphere from the previous establishment.
Don’t waist your time! If you’re in Randolph stick with Rosies or Forte you’ll never be disappointed.
First they had a children’s birthday party in the bar area with screaming kids. Food not good. Chairs uncomfortable. Service was so so. Was excited to try it under new ownership. Was better before. Had high hopes.
New spot in the area. Nice food offerings and great beer menu !
Thank you, Tom!
Excellent service, great food. Beer selection was fantastic.
Thank you, Jennifer!
Good eclectic menu. Something for every one. Would like to see better IPAs on tap.
Thank you, Missi. If you send us a few IPA's that you like, we'd be happy to try and put them on tap.
It was a great place & loved the food & drinks
It was defiantly a gastro pub the food was just ok. The beer menu was mostly IPA’s. The service was very good. Not much has changed since it was morris tap and grill
The food was delicious and our service was excellent. Restaurant was very busy and noisy on Saturday night. Keeping it from 5 stars is the fact that I reserved a low table and despite there being several low tables was told by hostess that none were available because they were reserved. I thought that’s what I did?! Our server was helpful to get a high back chair for me for the high table. The other 3 in our party had stools with no backs which became uncomfortable after 2 hours.
The good and service
Are great - it’s just that each time I go I ask for high top seating and call for it specifically and they never come through . It’s happened 2 so far .
Pleasantly surprised! Apps excellent and diner great !! Server was very pleasant and friendly.
Overall great experience
It was an enjoyable experience. I am vegan and they were accommodating. Great beer list and food was awesome. Our server Doug was great!
Thank you, Larry! We are glad Doug took good care of you, and that you enjoyed the food!
Menu is a fun read, creative titles and thorough ingredients. Food was very good at reasonable prices. Drinks were excellent. Service was very good. They have a gluten free menu upon request. No gluten free pasta, which is odd. Overall, a really good experience. Bar was very busy and noisy. If looking for more subdued choose sit down versus stand up seating option.
Thank you, Brad! We are all about fun and creativity. We do have GF pasta, maybe they were out, will definitely mention this to the chef.
Great for drinks and appetizers or dinner. Lamb shank was delicious as well as the chicken sandwich. Lots of variety.
Thank you, Marya!
Love the small plate options - can't wait to go back and try more! Food was delicious. Everyone that works there was involved with our service - not just the waitress - others were attentive to filling my glass of water, clearing plates, packaging leftovers. I think 4 different people stopped at our table.
The food was very good and the service was good as well
Excellent option for dinner. The beer menu was fantastic with service to match. The menu is a bit complicated in its offerings but the food we had was delicious. We were dining with kids and the loud noise level was perfect. Absolutely recommend.
Slow service for an empty restaurant. Food was average at best. Menu unnecessarily complicated for mediocre outcome
Hi Anonymous, We are very sorry you find the menu complicated. The majority of our customers love our fun and creative menu. Let us know if we can help you choose something the next time you come in. We'd be happy to help you try one of our awesome dishes that other customers rave about. We'd love to convert you to a 5-star customer!
We had been MTG customers for around 8 years so we were looking forward to the opening of the new restaurant at the same location. Food was good, no complaints there. I like the eclectic menu choices. Some of the descriptions are a little pretentious and need to be reworded (you’re in Randolph, not Soho). Our only issue was our young server. Despite him assuring us we were not being forgotten we noted that neighboring tables were getting their order quicker, especially those who had arrived later. Our young server had little motivation in our opinion, could be new to service or a job for that matter. There seemed to be little oversight of the floor. Another table got their desserts comped for slow service as well. We might give it another shot in 2020 - until then, we hope they work it out.
Hi, we appreciate you visiting SBK and understand your frustration with the server, Please know that this issue is being addressed. We do take it seriously and hope you see the difference the next time you return. Thank you for the comments, we appreciate them
Had the short rib w/mashed potatoes and the chicken sandwich. Food was very good. We found it annoying the way the menu items were named - with a creative name that really didn't describe the food / drinks, rather than calling it what it is - because of that you were forced to read every single description. Service was ok.
Great restaurant loved the food and drinks will definitely recommend and go back again
Excellent service, food was delish and prices are reasonable. We will def be back!
Thank you, Tania!
Enjoyed our first visit
Great food and service by our server Zak
Definitely will return!
Thanks so much Jim, we agree Zak is the greatest.
We were very disappointed one one of our favorite restaurants, Nicolas 10 closed several years ago. I was very surprised to discover the same 'playful' menu at Suburban Bar and Kitchen. And it lived up to to our memory and expectations. Fun, creative food, extremely well prepared and tasty craft cocktails are on the menu at this
reincarnztion/revision of Morris Tap House. The previous incarnation was fine, it was solid but uninspired. Not so anymore. They have upped their game on all levels and it shows. Looking foward to a return visit to see if they can maintain this style and qualith.
Hi BeeMo, We appreciate the great review and are so glad you are happy with SBK!
Had such high hopes for this place. The noise hits you when you enter. Thought we’d try new owners/menu. Service was good, but slow. Me and 2 friends at square table. The table top was not attached and moved constantly. Chairs are metal and very low. My 6’2” friend could not fit her legs under table. We each got de plain burger. Sorry, but if you brine beef you get corned beef. Never have I or any of the chefs I know ever heard of ale brined beef. The burgers were very good. Although they were dropped on the table quickly, it took 5 minutes to get our waiter’s attention to get different condiments. Not everyone uses ketchup. 3 burgers, medium rare, medium and well done. Mine was more on the rare of medium rare, which is very good. Medium a bit rarer than friend likes. Well done, perfect. Fries were good. Thursday night catch-up with friends. Could not hear a thing. Was hoping for so much more, but all other menu items are just a bit to tweaked for me. We will not be going back.
Great food, menu offers a little bit of everything and something different. They have an extensive craft beer menu and signature drinks as well. Stopped in for dinner, huge dining area but noise level is such that you can hear your date speak. Saturday night had live music, loud enough to hear but not too loud. We had the Little Piggy app, ribs that fall off the bone, Lobster Mac & Cheese app (awesome) and the Muscles which were great as well. We shared the Roasted Pork entre which was recommended by our waiter and did not disappoint. They just opened so they are still shaking out the kinks but the staff is very well trained, knowledgeable and energetic. We will definitely be back to try something different.
Nothing much different from when it was tap and grill.
I love the atmosphere (we sat on the right side of the restaurant). Honesty, I found the the sign from the road hard to read and didn't get its meaning. But having dinner there Saturday helped me understand it, BRILLIANT! The food was spectacular and the atmosphere, from what I'm gathering was "suburb" on the left and "urban" to the right. I even compared it to Bobby Flay's restaurant in Atlantic City. There was comfort food on the menu as well as New York style small plates, I loved it! There is plenty more dishes I'm wanting to try and with Chris making pizza's, that's definitely on my list. Every single thing we ate was delicious. Also, a shout out to Luke, very good service and great energy! We WILL be back!
Pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. Really like the menu. Will definitely go back again
Super underwhelming. Food was poor at best. Onion soup barely had any broth. Pork tacos were extremely dry.
