Sushi Damo - Rockville
This may have been the most horrible experience I’ve ever experienced. For starters, there was no host. We walked in and there were dirty dishes on the host stand as a server came by and asked how many. I told him we had a reservation (to get my OT points) and he just goes “ok but for how many” and just had us follow him as he was trying to decide where to seat us followed by “is this good?” Which happened to be right behind the host stand with nothing blocking it, so close that everytime anyone would go play host, their butts were almost touching us. Then we hardly got greeted after ten minutes of sitting there, the most interaction we got was a server coming by with two waters saying “sorry for the wait” and running off. (It was a random Wednesday night and the place was close to empty). Finally we mention we have a Groupon and no one seems to really understand the Groupon. A different server came around and we mentioned the Groupon and he said there was a certain menu we could pick things from so we asked for it, and no one came to give it to us for another ten minutes. Finally we ask the other server and he comes back ten minutes later with a picture of it on his phone cuz they “don’t have a physical copy” which was weird. It’s like we were teaching them about their own deals. Then we ordered a bottle of wine cuz it came with the Groupon and it took another 20 mins to get to us. We ordered two appetizers and they took SO LONG that I completely forgot we even ordered any. Finally our entrees came out and they weren’t worth the wait at all. They were very subpar definitely something I could have gotten at a different sushi place in 1/3 of the time. We then ordered dessert to go, we had plans and we were on the verge of missing them considering we have been sitting for a little over two hours and we’d JUST finished our entrees. By the time the dessert came (another 20 minutes) we definitely missed our plans and were super annoyed. Such a mess, never going back
Made a reservation on a Sunday evening, and the place looked really nice and was pretty quiet. However it took over 10 minutes for us to get treated and we were sitting at the Sushi bar. I need to add that it wasnt busy at all. Unfortunately, we didnt even end up eating there bc they didnt offer a seaweed substitute for their sushi rolls. The most common are soy and rice paper. I've been to many Sushi restaurants and this was the first who didnt offer a substitute. We went around the corner to another sushi place and had amazing sushi with soy paper.
The specialty rolls are delicious, creative, and enticing. I would need more time to evaluate other items on the menu.
Always the best sushi. Comparable to NYC or LA. Better than anyplace downtown for the money. Creative, fresh sushi. Great service. Modern chill vibe. Try and grab a couch in the lounge.
Very poor service. Excellent food.
Very slow service and no more hot towels!
The service was unacceptable. When I brought it up with the manager, he didn’t even apologize - he just said it was busy. First time and we will never return.
The food was quite good, and the service and ambiance were absolutely amazing, perfect date night. We got the sushi/sashimi platter for two, and it was fine, but not like out of this world or anything. Lamb appetizer was delicious, same with the miso, very flavorful. They have lots of sake choices, we did the white cloud one and it was sweet as described by our wonderfully helpful waitress. Prices were fair for the area. Seats are really comfortable, and I think that's the first time I've written that in a review, and the decor made a great impression.
We enjoyed dinner very much especially the sea bass. The service and the atmosphere were excellent.
good meal. would eat there again. this review must be 50 characters
Great service and delicious food. Really appreciated that they had a children’s menu!!
One of the better Japanese restaurants. Good sushi and a fair amount of non-sushi dishes such as teriyaki and tempura. The bento boxes are very large and cost is reasonable. The service is very attentive and the decor is very nice, so this is a good place to socialize.
Always the best sushi around. Classy modern place but casual and comfortable. Fresh fish and creative dishes. Great service.
We have been to Sushi Damo multiple times. Perhaps because it was mid August it was less crowded and so the noise level was better than usual. Food is very good. Fresh and well seasoned. Service was very attentive without being intrusive.
Great place for a business meeting or fun night out. Quiet enough to have a conversation, great food and service.
A very nice restaurant. Great food, great ambiance. Excellent for special occasions. Reasonably priced given the quality of the dining experience.
Always a great experience, so lucky to have this place so close.
Great food, service and overall appearance. The "only" issue is more sound insulation is needed. It was hard to have a conversation. Otherwise, a great experience.
Excellent find for sushi. The uni was so unctuous that I had to have two pieces for desert. Would highly recommend. I came over from Virginia to meet someone for dinner (in the middle of rush hour). Would gladly do so again.
Upscale sushi. Some of the experience of delicious fish is long because they try to ‘elevate’ the experience and all the extras don’t let the flavors shine on their own. Some really interesting and delicious things on the menu - like the shiitake mushroom sushi roll. But it’s a little hit or miss
They forgot half our order. We left very hungry. Also drinks were never refilled
Sushi Damo was amazing. The food was fresh and incredibly tasty, the restaurant ambience was tasteful and the service (hostess and waitress) was friendly and helpful with our orders. My family and I all had a wonderful time for my brother's birthday. We had an assortment of sushi rolls, the seaweed salad and I myself had the Moscow mule and gold leaf chocolate mousse; it was all incredible.
The only complaint I would have is that it took a very long time for the sushi orders to be made, even though the restaurant was only about half full. But even with the long wait time we would all go back and I have already recommended this restaurant to my friends!
The food is always good. One of the best if not the best sushi place in the area
Great food, great service, great environment!
Arrived for 7 pm reservation to a not too busy inside seating. Waited 5 minutes and ordered drinks. 10 minutes later my wife’s drink arrived (wrong drink) but not my beer. Another 5 minutes pass and my wife’s correct drink arrives. Still no beer. Beer arrives and we ordered food. 30 minutes later we’re told the sushi orders are taking a while. 8:10 still no food and we request a “to go” order. Server changes order. 8:20 we again told here we have to leave, server checks and says are sushi order is next in line!!!!
Not sure that would be 5 or 15 minutes more. We can’t wait. I paid for our drinks and left. Worst dining experience we’ve ever had. What’s worse than bad food?? No food
1 hour and 20 minutes and still no food. Will not be going back.
The server was extremely knowledgeable & attentive. The food was very good although not a tremendous value.
The sushi rolls are creative. My husband is vegan and there are plenty of options for him. Ample outdoor seating.
OUR REGULAR SUSHI STOP. ALWAYS RELIABLE AND MY KIDS LOVE THE PHILADELPHIA ROLL.
2nd visit. Enjoyed the service and sushi was top notch. Took a friend here for his first visit and he couldn't stop talking about the freshness of the sushi. We will be back.
More than one hour to get our order!
The food here is consistently excellent. We remarked that “we don’t eat here enough,” and we plan to return soon.
An excellent restaurant in every way. The food is creative and delicious from appetizers to dessert. You can clearly see the pride this award winning chef puts into his work whether it is his sushi or other delectable dishes. The bar staff are both friendly and excellent as well. The restaurant is beautifully and tastefully decorated. There were couples and families equally enjoying this restaurant. The portions were large and the prices were excellent. Can not recommend this restaurant enough, really the jewel of the Town Center!!!!
Great service. Wish I could recall our server’s name. Great sushi Very fresh and authentic.
I was very disappointed. We came for lunch on a Monday. The place was empty, but the service was still very slow. And the sushi was just about the worst I’ve had. I’m not that picky with sushi—I love it—but this tastes noticeably not fresh, and the fish didn’t have a ton of flavor. Also, the music was this crappy techno, and it was loud. Odd choice for a sushi joint in Rockville. I’d avoid.
Good not great dishes. service very good by our server.
The sushi was delicious - some of the best we've ever had. We will definitely be back here.
My husband liked the sushi, but the rest of the meal was disappointing. My husband ordered sushi and sashimi, we shared some tempura, and I got an Nabe Yaki Udon. My husband liked his sushi and sashimi, but the tempura was far from delicate (heavily coated in batter) and the udon was basically boring. Yes, the noodles themselves were good (nice texture) but the rest of the soup was boring with big, rather flavorless, chunks of chicken. The environment is very pleasant, a bit hip (which is a positive in Rockville, where not much qualifies as hip), and the service is pleasant. The wine was good enough. Still, I wouldn't recommend it, unless you need to be able to walk to dinner.
Always the best sushi in the area. Creative rolls either he freshest fish, very mellow and modern vibe, excellent service.
Great location, service and food. We went early in the day so there weren’t many patrons. I’d recommend for any occasion. The sushi was amazing!!
We had a great time!
