Our first visit for an anniversary dinner, the location was once Pines of Florence (?) many years ago. We had the tasting menu and sake selections recommended by the staff that made it a wonderful meal. We found the fish fresh and delicious. We highly recommend Ogawa.

Everything was fine, but nothing was outstanding except, perhaps, the service. The young men who greeted and served us were very personable. But, they were very casually dressed, looking more like bartenders in a dive bar than servers in an elegant, over-priced restaurant.

The food was mostly ordinary, with a few excellent pieces of sashimi included. Nothing to write home about.

Plain atmosphere but fantastic sashimi and sushi. Between Dupont Circle and Woodley Park.

Outstanding sushi, possibly the best I’ve ever had, which includes Nobu in NY and Sake No Hana in London.

We love our sushi, and Sushi Ogawa is our special occasion place for sushi. Absolutely the best fish in the area, as they get daily shipments in from Japan. Service is amazing, and you can’t beat the sushi omakase at only $80. We sat at the bar and basically had our own personal sushi chef for the evening. Our omakase included an appetizer, sushi, miso soup, a hand roll at the end, topped off with a Yuzu sorbet for dessert. An amazing meal that can’t beat.

This restaurant serves traditional Japanese food. Not flashy, just excellent quality with traditional flavors. If you are looking for fusion or some other kind of modern take, this is not the place. if you want to have a superb Japanese meal, the freshest fish and the classic take on sushi, this is great choice. Plus, they serve Born sake--the best in the world.

Stated simply, the worst. The food was remarkably bland with the exception of the fatty tuna. I was unaware it was possible to ruin simple dishes such as miso soup. My wife lived in Japan for many years. When we left, she remarked how it was not only the worst Japanese food experiences she'd had, but one of the worst overall dining experiences in DC, period. I would recommend steering clear.

Somewhat boring. Menu was very traditional. Sushi was fresh but bland. I can’t honestly say there was anything exceptional about the meal. Sorry.

We had a private room that was exceptional with excellent service and outstanding fresh sushi.

Even the sorbet dessert was interesting taste!

Definitely authentic Japanese.

For starters parking is abysmal. Your only option is to pray you find a street spot. If you’re lucky.

Food itself as a traditional sushi restaurant is very good; however I would not put this place under the “Asian Fusion” search category as it is far from that experience.

A sushi junkies dream but not for those less adventurous in the raw seafood category.

Good value for the price though.

All my review is aimed to make this restaurant better. I love sushi capital, which is a cheaper restaurant owned by chef Ogawa and serve relatively good fresh nigiri compatibles with the price. I believe only criticisms can be beneficial.

This is an okay restaurant but not worth $$. We tried Omakase here, which is only $80 each person (relatively cheap compared with those $100+ omakase). But restaurant experience is cut more than 20%.

First thing first, I need to mention this is a Michelin Recommended restaurant of 2017. I don't think Michelin would shoot a glance at this place again this year, good job.

We reserved this restaurant at 8:30, and we arrived at 8:10. Waiter told us our table will be ready in few minutes, but we hadn't got seated until 8:40. By the time we got seated, there were 3 vacant tables. It's not dinner rush hour.

Appetizers were tempura and egg pudding. They were warm but not hot. Tempura weren't crispy and could because late serve or prepared before.

All the seaweed from sushi were wet. I can't believe this could happened to this restaurant. Unacceptable. Fatty tuna were served in both sashimi and nigiri. Duplicated kind of fish?

Also, when we ordered food with waiter, I mentioned more than twice that we wanted sea urchin from Japan if Uni is included in our Omakase dinner. Waiter told us he would tell the chef our requests. When the nigiri arrived, the Uni didn't come right and waiter didn't give any explanation at all. He totally forgot it!

Dessert supposed to be green tea ice creams with frozen grapes. The grapes were not frozen and ice cream is melting.

There was another table getting the same exactly order with us, I believe they will agree with me as well.

Sorry chef Ogawa, but you really disappointed me this time.

Exceptional omakase - leaves you full, but not at the point of explosion. Closest thing to Japanese first-rate sushi that we've had in America. Kudos to the Itamae.

It was very quiet/near empty the night we dined - sincerely hope that was an aberration. We saw lines forming at Sushi Taro in the Dupont Circle region. They are different experiences, but we liked Ogawa perhaps incrementally better. The service at Sushi Ogawa was impeccable.

Some of the negative reviews either: A) are one-off experiences, or B) written by customers who perhaps don't have a baseline for what makes for great omakase.

Delicious food, great service, quiet ambiance, but the food came out pretty quickly. It would’ve been nice for them to space things out some more. I also thought we didn’t get tremendous bang for our buck. It was a fun place to go to once, though.

Sashimi was first rate, but quite expensive. Tempura was more moderately priced, but not fried quite long enough to be crispy.

This was a remarkable place. Friendly people and good service. The menu is all sushi with a few appetizers, no maki (rolls). The fish are fresh and have a few familiar ones, but most were ones that are not common in the usual sushi restaurants. The ones I tried were fantastic, and I would return here again, with friends. Great experience.

Fantastic quality sushi. The facility is small, which can be endearing, but the bathroom is right off of the dining room with little privacy. Also, sound carries in the small seating area and the conversations at other tables are hard to ignore. The ambiance left a bit to be desired, but the food was great and the Coltrane soundtrack played over the sound system was nice. We will return soon to try Omakase.

My wife and I loved this very traditional omakase dinner at the sushi bar. Our chef served 7 of us very efficiently. The additional service was outstanding. We believe this is the best sushi omakase experience in Washington and surrounding areas. And it’s a great value too.

Sitting at counter and get special attention from the master chef for delicately prepared sushi is such a luxuary. You need to make special reservation to ask for chef special and it's worth it. Best Sushi in Washington DC.

An outstanding experience. Sat at the bar for the omakase experience. If you book via Open Table you will need to call ahead to ensure sushi counter seating. Sushi counter seating only serves omakase.
