Taris on the Water
We love Taris on the Water. Everything is always excellent whenever we go. It's our favorite local restaurant.
A perfect Valentine's dinner. The food and ambience was terrific. The wait staff is outstanding. They work as a team with all of them aware of what is happening at any table in the restaurant especially Karen
This is not my first visit to Taris...in fact it is one of my ‘go to’ restaurants. This time, as always, the service was awesome. Our food was not as good as usual...my pork schnitzel was quite tough..the sides were amazing! My friend had the beef parpadelle and the beef was fatty and unappealing. I have had this in the past and it was delicious.
Will this stop me from coming back...not at this point.
Second time visiting this restaurant. And it was even better then the first. The wait staff is great. The food is excellent.
Fantastic dining experience. I visit from downtown Toronto on business meetings and have never been let down by the experience here.
Private room was a great touch
The food is excellent and the service is great. It is a busy place
Nice atmosphere, food was very good and portions were enough that we were both able to take some home for lunch the next day. Service was great. Will definitely go back again.
It was a Saturday night. We had a reservation. Our table was ready on time. Service is very personal which is very nice. Food was great. Tasty and well presented. My wife had the coq au vin with was quite different from the classic but very tasty. I had the filet. The downside was that I asked for rare hoping to get medium- rare but it came out medium.
Food and service always top notch. Unfortunately we sat behind for girls who are very loud, It really took from our experience this time, we skipped dessert and got out of there
Been twice to celebrate a birthday, service was great
Anniversary. Was awesome as usual!!
Saturday night outing
Food was very tasty, ambiance was great
All in all a nice evening
Lovely setting and the decor is cheerful, but needs a good cleaning (cobwebs/flies in chandaliers). The service was friendly but we were very disappointed with the quality of the food and thought the prices were hire considering the poor quality.
Menu selection nicely varied, service very friendly, attentive but not intrusive, helpful local knowledge was available when requested.
Score could be higher if a bit more finesse was applied to patio furnishings and table setting, and food wait times a bit shorter, or 'house snacks' provided to help fill the time.
I have been here several times and always enjoyed. This time was with my sisters to celebrate one of our birthdays. For a couple of other birthdays we celebrated at other restaurants. Every time when I booked the reservation I was asked if we were celebrating anything special and I said "a birthday". Neither of the other restaurants acknowledged this even though it was talked about with the waiters both times. Taris made a special effort in asking who's birthday it was and then brought a dessert free of charge to the table. None of us really needed dessert at this point but the gesture was very much appreciated. It's the little things that we remember. We will be back!
A good dinner. The wine list is not extensive, so it was disappointing that one red was inexpertly crossed out, and our choice was not available.
An occasionally noisy hen party made the atmosphere a bit rowdy at times, but not much the house can do about that.
Wonderful!!! My favourite restaurant!!! Will be returning soon.
Lovely restaurant on the canal offers outdoor seating next to the water. Service was very good and staff were pleasant. The food was very good.
Everything from food to service to ambiance was exceptional. A new favourite spot in downtown Welland
I will not be returning based on the service alone. I thought they must have been short staffed, but friends have told me, no, the service has really gone down. Hopefully they figure it out because the setting is lovely and the kitchen is going its job.
Seven friends gathered for a lunch at Taris. It is very difficult to get us all together at one time and so we were busy talking as we met there. Despite the fact that we were taking forever to order, the server was very patient. Each of was very pleased with what she ordered. I am full blown celiac and just love this spot for the many truly safe selections. The fish and frites are wonderful! The service was as excellent as the food. It is a spot to which we shall all return. Thanks for making our visit memorable!
We had reservations for two and requested a table on the patio. Upon arrival, we were told that they weren’t seating on the patio in case it rained. There was only one table occupied in the restaurant when we arrived. We were given a corner table in the immediate path of the kitchen staff to the right and the Patio garbage can on the left. Even tho some tables had a Reserved sign on them, there was plenty of room left and four other couples were seated on the patio after our arrival. We were constantly disrupted and kept getting bumped into as others passed by. It was obvious that the patio is reserved for friends because they got the better service. So... if you want to feel like an outsider, that’s the place to be. We are accustomed to a more upscale service which is why we were disappointed. This is our second visit at the Taris on the Water and unfortunately the first wasn’t much better. We decided to leave without ordering Mains. 80+$ for a shared appetizer and wine wasn’t acceptable for the service we received.
The restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Upon arrival we were greeted and shown to our table. We sat out on the patio with a great view of the water and bridge. Our server was attentive and knew the menu well. The food was quick to arrive and the bruschetta smoked salmon was awesome. I dined on the chicken cacciatore and it was delicious. We found in the lower level a private dining room which was lovely. Note to self to bring a group to try this.
All in all, a great experience. There is parking at the back of the restaurant but also seems to be plenty of street parking.
The decor is wonderfully understated and looks amazing. We will return for sure. Impressed.
Favourite restaurant! Not only do you get to have dinner with a view but the servers are amazing and the ambience is unbeatable! Such a great experience, I’ll definitely be back.
Great seasonal menu with good vegan and gluten-free options. Friendly service. Beautiful setting on the canal-side patio. Live music (we were there on a Friday) was good, and quiet enough to allow table conversation. Great place!
Great meal (the first of many!), service (engaged and helpful) and ambience (lovely canal-side patio). The three-piece band was also a nice touch; quiet enough to still chat with our friends, but they had presence enough to enjoy & even sing along to.
Extremely busy lunch hour. Things were hopping, inside - outside & down in the meeting room. The staff still managed to be very attentive. Entrees were excellent! Apple pie dessert was presented beautifully. However, hard to eat on a slate plate. The tart shell was 'different' - I think an apple cobbler would have been a better idea.
Summertime eating on the patio is fantastic. The views are spectacular.
Absolutely love it here, will definitely be coming back!
Being outside on the taris is gorgeous!!
Justen, our server is an absolute delight!
Great staff, super friendly. Beautiful patio on the water. Food was amazing. We will definetly be back!
Missed that caramel cake !!
This was a last minute reservation for us as we drove to Welland on this day. We were seated outside which is great, but it did take a while before a server came to see us. The first part of the dinner took a while but then it got better. We really enjoyed our meals, duck and steak, along with wine. The servers were courteous and friendly. We would return to this restaurant if in the area.
Restaurant has the potential to be a 5 star but I’m providing a 2 and possibly a 3 rating. The location is nice right by the Main Street Bridge of the Welland Canal. Ambience indoors is excellent but with the pleasant weather outdoors for a change we decided to use the patio. My first issue with Taris is that more than one of their tables on the patio need to be replaced but in truth I was not there for the tables but the food. The food was excellent and this is why I’m taking the time to make my review as Taris has the potential to get a 5 star rating from me. Don’t lose your chef. The portions could be slightly bigger but are not out of line with the type of restaurant and ambience. What was annoying was to get nickel and dimed for a buck for a sprinkle of extra cheese for a pasta dish on a $200 tab and to get an expresso with dessert that had visible lipstick on the outside of the cup. Now accidents happen from time to time, but instead of providing a fresh cup of hot expresso it was obvious that it was simply transferred to a clean cup as it arrived back cold. In addition there was no goodwill gesture from the restaurant to at least get that cup of expresso free of charge. Again that should never happen on a $200 tab. All in all I would go back but I won’t be in a hurry. If small items like this are not fixed you will lose business in the long run.
The food was great and the service was very friendly.
Unable to make 5:45 reservation but they accommodated us (8 people) despite being busy. Much appreciated. Food presentation and taste is outstanding and service was excellent. Highly recommend Taris on the Waterb
Food was good.. what i ordered was not what I expected but it was still pretty good.
The restaurant was clearly understaffed. The food was excellent and beautifully prepared but it unfortunately did not make up for the other short falls. We had to ask for water to brought to our table a number of times, and one of the meals for our group came 5 minutes after the other three had arrived. Other tables were waiting even longer just to have their order taken. When we had to pay their system had gone down and the only solution they offered was to take our cc info and input into an app on the owners smart phone. A very unsettling experience. Their tone was unapologetic and rude. Not sure I would recommend or return which is a shame because the chef is very talented and deserves to work in a restaurant that treats the customers as well as he cooks!
Atmosphere is elegant, service was friendly and courteous, food was OK.
This is one of our favourite places to dine. Have never had a bad meal. The wait staff are all very friendly& eager to accommodate. When you don’t feel like cooking, it’s a nice place to go, relax, enjoy the excellent food & beautiful scenery.
