Our waiter was great!!
Service was very prompt and friendly! Food is always yummy!
Always great service and delicious, unique dishes. Erica and her team provide superior hospitality. Kudos.
In C’ville for a reunion and couldn’t have picked a better spot to gather with friends. The service, food and space, including the downstairs “Speak Easy” were awesome! So good that we returned for Sunday Brunch before heading back home, which was excellent as well. Can’t wait to return…our new “go to” in C’ville!
Excellent food and service. Butternut risotto was best I’ve ever had and perfectly proportioned.
The hostess was fantastic and our drink orders were taken quickly, but service after that point was lacking. Appetizers came out in a decent amount of time, but we were seated for over an hour and fifteen minutes before we received our meal, with no requests if we’d like a refill on our drinks. When we inquired if dinner would be out soon, they explained the kitchen was backed up. Standard service with a backed up kitchen would be to be extra attentive on drinks and offer bread, etc. Food was decent and the wine list was great.
The food was outstanding and the service was excellent.
Starting with the Brussels sprouts and French fries then on to the butternut squash risotto, everything was delicious. Server was prompt and courteous. First time dining there and it didn’t disappoint. Cocktails were excellent too.
Erica’s warm greeting snd history of the building was a great start. Seated in two-top in ground floor dining room. Eclectic menu including bison steak, Arctic char and chicken mouseline. Nice wine, beer and drink menu with something for everyone. Server David was arrogant and curt. Perhaps too busy. For small talk. Put a damper on all the good things about Tavern and Grocery.
Hostess rude, server not interested in providing good service and eggs had to be sent back which took forever to get returned (returned dishes should be first out of kitchen not put behind everyone else again). It’s a shame because it’s a lovely place.
We wanted to change our reservation to another time. They told us they were booked solid but when we arrived even at our requested time there were tables available.
Cool ambiance. Great food. Superb service. Passing thru town and first timer… it’s on my list for another visit.
Loved the entertainment and the food was perfect.
Had a wonderful evening and meal. Neat inside, very comfy. Good cocktails and excellent food.
We sat outside on a Sunday morning with a 10:30 reservation. Cool September morning, with just a few cars passing by. Such a lovely place to have enjoyed a mimosa and brunch. The beet salad was wonderful as well as the skillet egg dish. Very nice, will visit again when back in town!
My friend and I visited Tavern & Grocery for Sunday Brunch. We were the first ones to arrive and taken to our table near the window once the restaurant opened for the day. The first thing we noticed were the flies. They keep the front door open, so yes, outside creatures will tend to come inside. But for a majority of the meal we were waving away flies from our food. It was distracting. For the money we paid for brunch, the fly issue was a nuisance and took away from the overall quality for us.
Great dinner! Yummy cocktails. The burger is always a hit. Risotto was a little salty. Chicken special was fabulous. Salmon tartare is a must order appetizer.
This was supposed to be my second time dining with tavern and grocery. Unfortunately shortly after being seated we decided to leave. What appeared to be the only server was so drunk that he was dropping items, cursing (while there were children present), slurring his words, and telling every table that his girlfriend was “being rubbed up on downtown and he was going to go there and beat the guys (insert curse word)”. He also made me extremely uncomfortable when he rubbed my back as he greeted us. My boyfriend and I decided to leave after speaking to the table next to us and they informed us he had been that way all night. My boyfriend went to inform the hostess at which point she did nothing but act like no one was aware of the situation. Needless to say, we will never return to this establishment.
Had a room to ourselves with 7 guests. It was the perfect space! We sampled 314 apps, all delicious. Entries were wonderful from duck to bison to scallops and risotto......
Would recommend highly. Oh,,, and go for brunch ,,, that’s always great!!
Great brunch, lively place with fun service
We thoroughly enjoyed the Brussels sprouts!
Great experience! Delightful dinner and we went downstairs to The Lost Saint for after dinner drinks. Loved it!
Great food. The scallops were fantastic. They are understaffed so slower service. Very energetic and helpful. Pricey but not unreasonable. Small portions though.
Nice brunch. Although our waiter seemed to be new, he had a good attitude and another waiter did a good job of "helping him out."
We thought this would be a great place to enjoy Sunday brunch. Sadly this was not the case. The restaurant was not that busy, yet it took about 40 minutes to get our food after ordering. When I received my meal, the bacon was severely undercooked (shall I say “raw”?) and it was not the meal as presented on the menu. When I brought this to our server’s attention, he took it back to the kitchen. He offered to replace my meal, but why wait another 40 minutes, especially when my husband was already eating his meal? The server returned and said that ingredients were not available as listed on the menu, yet this was not shared before I ordered. I decided to forego eating, and enjoyed the rest of my mimosa (which was good).
Sadly, neither management nor the chef spoke to us to offer an explanation or apology. Yes, my meal and mimosa was deducted from the check (I generously tipped the server as if I had received a meal because he shouldn’t suffer the kitchen’s mistake).
Mistakes happen at a restaurant- I get that. It’s how they are handled that makes a big difference as to whether I will return. Because of my experience today, I will not return.
Great Sunday brunch! Excellent coffee and the homegrown tomatoes on the tomato sandwich were the best I ever had. Side of breakfast potatoes was quite tasty as well.
Waiter was excellent, kitchen was slow. Restaurant was largely empty at 8:30pm but we were told there was a large party whose order would go in ahead of us so it was going to be long. And they weren’t lying! Food was solid and ambiance was nice but I’m not sure I’d go back.
Delicious food and drinks! We sat downstairs and it had a very cozy, yet modern ambiance. Will definitely be back again!
Food was not good. Way too much salt on everything.
The servers were very sweet and nice. The overall service was a little slow. We were outside and not checked on that well. The table was shabby and the area a little dirty. It's outside on the sidewalk and street.
The food was good. Maybe the inside experience is better, but you pay the same being outside. Overall a little overpriced for the experience.
Grapefruit Mimosas and Duck Hash!! Great Sunday!!
Poor, grumpy waiter/service, small portions and rushed to get us out. Save your money and go elsewhere
The food and ambiance were incredible. Our waiter Jaz was superb! Definitely try this restaurant
Was very disappointed with the service. One server was polite the other was not very friendly and I had to ask for napkins and a spoon that should have come with the meal and unfortunately he was the one that mostly came to the table. It totally ruined our experience. One dish was tasty but was served very soupy grits and the other was very disappointing. The service and meal did not match the price.
Wonderful gem in Charlottesville - highly recommend.
The food was great. The restaurant was accommodating. The service was slow and inattentive.
Our food was excellent. I had the scallops and my husband had the magret duck breast. Initially after we arrived it took a while for our server to come as us about drinks and then he took off before we could tell him we wanted appetizers so we just skipped them and when we cam back ordered our entrees. Overall it was a very pleasant dinner
Restaurant week’s menu was an outstanding introduction to the restaurant! Also, sitting outside on a “coolish” July evening was perfect! We are planning to frequent again.
The food was outstanding. I can't wait to come back.
