Tavern On The Bay
VAPE PEN in the kids markers! To say that this experience would be a memorable one would be an understatement... Upon being seated, my children were handed menus on which to color and a bin of markers/crayons. My 18 month old son picked out a "marker" and like many babies his age, he put it right in his mouth. A moment later he was coughing out smoke. Somehow a vape pen made its way into the bin of markers. As a mother I was horrified and sickened at the thought of what my baby just inhaled and whose mouth had been on this thing before his (poison control was called). The waiter immediately got the manager, Caleb. Caleb seemed to be "on something" himself and couldn't understand what happened. When he finally grasped what had occurred, his response was "things happen". I responded quite unfavorably and he then told me "your son will be fine, God's got him". No apology, no accountability. Caleb is nothing short of a joke and has no business managing a restaurant. We still ended up finishing dinner at the restaurant (though nothing was even taken off the bill)...but our waiter was friendly and apologetic and the food was actually good as well. Two days later I attempted to contact the owner to no avail. I ended up speaking again with Caleb who could not understand why I wanted to speak with the owner. Three days later and I have yet to hear from the owner. Either he hasn't received the message or he is just as bad a manager as Caleb. A horrible experience overall.
Restaurant looks nice with a beautiful view. It’s just poorly run which is a shame because there is potential there. Overheard the bartender telling patrons at the bar (whom he appeared to know personally) about how poorly run the place is. He also revealed that the cook got into a knife fight in the kitchen and was stabbed.
Good food, service was great considering they were understaffed. Outside deck needs some touch ups.
Our waiter Anthony aka Tony was great! We went with two little ones and he got there food and drinks ASAP. We got the little necks which tasted good but they were cold and then the crab cakes and shrimp scampi. The crab cakes were all crab and baked but the old bay seasoning was a little over powering. The shrimp scampi tasted really good. The outside ambiance could use a little sprucing up like the tables and chairs and over decor but nice view.
We were seated at 8:15 for a 7:00 res. Resturant had empty tables but was very short staffed. Waiter did his best and tried to be accommodating. The food was bland and our spinach dip appetizer was more like spinach soup. It a beautiful property with a great view if only someone who actually know what they were doing would buy it. .
Server was very unaccomidating, bartender was very kind.
Poor service, sub par food. Go down the street for better restaurants.
Fantastic food, great steak. Service was impeccable. Restaurant very clean snd very neat with a lovely view of the bay and marina. Lovely for a date night. Will definitely go again. Highly recommended.
Found this little place by accident, and so glad that we did! Didn’t even realize it was a restaurant, but so happy we decided to try it! Beautiful view on the outdoor deck right at the bay, the host was the nicest guy you could meet, very welcoming and sociable to us. Even though they were busy that night, the waitress was still incredibly sweet and very attentive, and to top it all off, all of the food we had was very very good…great ambiance, great service, great food…we will be visiting here again for sure!
My daughter 17th bday
Started off with a horrible Bloody Mary. Food just ok we just had soup and Angus Burgers.
This was the second time I went there in a week. The 2 servers that we had were very friendly but are in need of training. The outside deck has a great view of the Bay. This could be a great restaurant if they could get the staff needed training.
Very disappointed. Excellent views of the bay- food way overpriced and very average. Unfortunately will not be returning for dinner, but drinks and appetizers on the deck are still recommended.
Upon arrival we were told that the room requested was unavailable and we're seated in the bar area. There were no cucumbers to be had for the Hendricks martini. The Caesar salad was out of a bottle. Crab cakes with a lot of filler. The swordfish special of the evening was so overcooked it was inedible and was returned. The replacement salmon with shrimp scampi wasn't awful, but the scampi sauce was just melted butter, no garlic or spices. The staff was apologetic. The chef might look for a different line of work.
Our family of 6 enjoyed dinner here to end our week at Ocean City. We were greeted and seated promptly. Tracey was wonderful as our server! She was friendly and attentive. Our table had a great view of the marina from inside the sunroom. The food was delicious! We will definitely be back.
Good food but the servers were fighting for the lives once it got busy. Not their fault though.
Horrible, had a waitress who just talked down about the place, had shrimp apps in chili sauce for 22 bucks got 6 shrimp with teriyaki. $18 for wings??? Entrees were terrible.
My advice stay away
Food was horrible service was horrible it was very loud I would never go here again
We made a reservation, and got there, and there were no tables available although many were unoccupied but they don’t have the staff to clear the tables. We waited for 40 minutes with no tables cleared even though they were open - so we just left as there was not even a host or hostess to give us an update on what was going on. Unfortunate and empathize that its hard to get help post-pandemic. But then don’t take a reservation at a time if you can’t handle it!!!
Wonderful view of the bay from the deck! Great shrimp cocktail and short ribs and filet were very good! My son enjoyed the stuffed shrimp and lobster bisque! Bartender had to serve us as short on staff but she did a great job!
Disappointing experience. The service was terrible. There was a hair in one dinner and all they did was replace it. Should have given us whole experience for free. Staff appeared stressed and angry.
We were promptly seated and our server took our drink orders. Food was very tasty and served in a timely manner after our appetizers. Nice outdoor view of the bay and ocean city. Nice place. Think they have stepped up there game.
Always great food and service. The place could be cleaner and freshened up, but we always have a great meal.
This place has so much potential, but adequate staffing and consistency with food is definitely an issue. An app and one entree was really good. One entree not so good. Cocktails and wine were great. The atmosphere was also really nice. We sat on the deck on the water and it was perfect.
We had an enjoyable meal. I was a little surprised that the restaurant doesn’t have olive oil for the bread. We did have to ask for the bread twice. Overall we enjoyed our meals and it was better than I expected from the prior reviews. Give it a try.
Tried this place out as we try to explore new restaurants in the area. All 4 of us in my family had lack luster meals, 2 of us didn’t eat more than a few bites.
Food was great, Anthony was our waiter and he was amazing. Made for an enjoyable evening
Servers were great! Nice outdoor dining, great view of Somers Point Marina
The food is very overpriced and not worth it. However the staff and servers were excellent.. really polite and personable.
Nothing memorable about the food. Bland and generic
The food and portions were good. The service was a bit casual for the establishment, but I understand staffing is difficult at the moment!
Had a great meal with exceptional service and an outstanding view of the bay and Ocean City beyond. Everyone in our party of 7 agreed - the deconstructed apple pie is a MUST!
The food was terrible. It was cold, inedible and expensive. It is a sin because the place is beautiful and the servers were nice but they need a chef. All they did was heat up frozen food. My burger didn’t even have the cheese melted.
We had a reservation yet no server for an hour and it took 1.5 hours to get an appetizer. I’m hoping they were just understaffed that night. Service was fair at best but the food and ambiance is outstanding.
Although we had a reservation through Open Table, Tavern on the Bay claimed they did not have a record of it. (The “host” was strangely drinking iced tea directly from a pitcher seated at the stand). We waited for our table for 35 mins. People on their way out warned us to leave. We should have listened to them but everywhere else was packed on the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend down the shore.
Once seated, we found ourselves stuck in the middle of a weird waiter turf war. These two gentlemen were affable and really trying their best under bad circumstances. But it was so awkward for us.
Took way too long to get drinks — which were all mixed up. Vodka in the 15 year old’s Shirley Temple?! None in my cocktail.
So our food was finally served after 9 pm — 2 hours from our reservation time. Trust me that it was not worth the wait. One item knocked off our bill which we had to point out — the shrimp & salmon served without any salmon.
Tavern on the Bay has precipitously declined over the last few years. We will not be returning.
