For centuries, a taverna has been a neighborhood gathering place where friends can meet to eat, drink and enjoy life. Taverna co-founders Thanasis Pashalidis and Hakan Bala were raised with a shared ethical compass, which the Greeks call "philotimo" or "love of honor". Family and friends are their ingredients of life, and they believe that nutrition, happiness and health are all directly correlated. Both partners have been culturally influenced by the remedies of the old world and incorporate them into the lifestyle of Taverna. Both have an "ethos" that drives them and inspires others to live fully, which they consider the flavor of life's success. They understand that life is to be enjoyed and that time is of the essence. They are aware that every day is a gift.

Das Restaurant war, wie offenbar immer, voll gebucht und entsprechend laut und nicht gut klimatisiert. Man sitzt sehr eng, so dass es oft zu Körperkontakt zum Personal kommt. Der Service war bemüht, ein hohes Niveau zu simulieren. Für Empfehlungen am Tisch bleibt aber kaum Zeit (30s für die zwei! Tagesgerichte) Leider hatte die Küche Probleme, dem Tempo zu folgen. Die Qualität der Gerichte ist ordentlich aber nicht herausragend, die Preise sind Valley typisch völlig überzogen.

first time diner. Service and ambiance were very nice (we sat indoors). Appetizers were very nice (Octopus!) and Ok (spanakopita). Specials were mixed (Lamb shank was flavorful and plenty, Fish special (Sea Bream) was good, but even with the accompanied sauce lacked much flavor and still plenty of bones to pick through. Wine list is extensive, but very expensive. The cheapest Chardonnay was Far Niente at $99/bottle.

The food was absolutely outstanding. We are vegetarians and had a lot of choice with small bites and appetizers. The service is also top notch. Very few in the Bay Area like this. Would absolutely recommend any day. The ambience is great too and the toilets were super clean and well stocked. 5 stars everywhere

Some dishes are sublime (mussels, moussaka), others are adequate but unremarkable. The cocktails are also delicious. But if you are not careful to ask for tap water, they will pour you glass after glass of pricy bottled water. Our bill for 5 people included $45 of BOTTLED WATER that I didn’t even realize we ordered.

The waiters try but I am no longer sure it’s worth the value. For one, almost every wine on the menu is >$100. You cant tell me that there are no decent Greek or even CA wines that be priced more reasonably, even allowing for a tidy profit. Many average wines priced at $200/bottle. I recall being impressed by the food about 3 mos ago. But this last trip was not impressive. We were seated in the last table under the tent and it was uncomfortably cold. Sure it’s Nov but another heat lamp at the edge of the restaurant might have been good. Don’t know solution but it did not make for a good experience or ambiance. Our waiter was good, but doesn’t make up for terrible value delivered.

The food was absolutely delicious (Horiatiki salad with amazing fresh tomatoes, the savory zucchini cakes, perfectly grilled prawns, and smoky lamb riblets). The wait staff was speedy, helpful, friendly and attentive. The wine list is outstanding as well! Highly recommended.

Excellent service. The octopus was so good as it went through three steps of cooking as described by the waiter. Ordered salmon, lamb and gyro - was very happy with the food quality.

Good food in a good location. Parking is relatively easy on this side of the area. Food was overall good, with the riblets and dips being excellent. Service was intermittent.

We were leaded to a corner table when there are apparently better table available. The heater was not on until we notices the waiter. It also takes them 15min to get water and order food.

We absolutely loved the Greek baked gigante beans! A delicious vegetarian option. Also the horta greens were exceptional if you love greens like I do. Those were my highlights; but everything we tasted was very good.

Our waiter was extremely rude. We ordered the appetizer, and then he didn’t come to the table for our main course. I think he was unhappy because we are not drinkers. I’ve eaten there before and I had nice waiters

Love Taverna. Always lovely personal service, great environment and the food is delicious. I've come with friends to share wine and appetizers, on a date-night with my hubby, and also with our parents. Everyone is happy with the experience.

I really enjoyed the service, ambiance and food! Everyone was so hospitable. The hostesses were all so pleasant too. Great Pinot noir that was suggested to us. The baked feta was so yummy! My only complaint is that if you have a bad back or a little chunky the chairs aren’t the most comfortable.

The four of us had an excellent dinner at Taverna. It was our first meal there, and we were pleasantly surprised. The drinks and food were delicious. We had the octopus, saganaki and calamari to start. Our mains were mussels with fries, the moussaka, and the pork chops of the day, with bakalava and some type of pastry with pistachio ice cream. The service was good because we arrived early, but we had to ask twice for and extra utensils as they got busier; not a big deal. Highly recommended!

Amazing food in a delightful setting, served by charming people. We are out-of-town ears and had a wonderful evening with some friends who live locally. What a great evening. Felt like we were in the Greek Islands.

Great food, ambienc, and service. A very delightful experience. However, with so much staff I wasn't sure who our waiter was but the service was good and accomodating striving to make the customer happy.

A bit pricey, especially for the wines, but well worth it. Food was excellent and well prepared though the pita was a bit salty. Service was warm and attentive. We selected an outdoor table on a warm evening which reminded us of a small neighborhood European restaurant. Would definitely return!

Incredible service. Tasty food and good portions. Chicken souvlakia salad is tasty and generously sized. The dips are great and pita is indulgent. Cozy patio seating - great for date night or groups. And so accommodating for my dog.

Fantastic and delicious food. Our server went above and beyond, however the server who sat us and inquired what type of water we wanted should have clarified that still water was $18 a bottle! Also on top of that, tap water wasn’t even offered so we weren’t even sure it was an option. Other than that, it was an amazing experience!

Taverna has a chic but cozy ambience. Their outdoor seating is especially lovely. My friend and I ordered two small plates: baked feta with tomatoes and onions, along with roasted beets. In addition we ordered a side of roasted potatoes. Our waitperson was very welcoming and steered us toward good choices, such as extra pita bread for the feta. All in all, a great dining experience.

This exceeded my expectations significantly. Beautiful, great service, gorgeous meals and the layout is really smart- it's like a collection of 4 or 5 smaller restaurants so you have an intimate setting and no giant rooms, but still has a good capacity and fast kitchen and bar. Honestly wow. We did share plates and family style, in a group of 7. One of my favorite team dinners ever.
