The Barn At Spring House
Ah. Tom the master in the kitchen
No disappointment!! and sweet Sarah tending to our table.
Always like to spend the New Year out on Block Island. The Chamber of Commerce suggested The Barn for a perfect New Years Eve dinner choice and they did not steer me wrong. Dined with 2 other dear friends. I had the Sole, my friend had the Filet and his wife had Oysters Rockefeller and the salad and soup. All were cooked to perfection.
The Barn is a special island spot....if you are “from here” you are sure to run into folks you know. If you are a visitor, you’ll soon be drawn into the vibe, talking to a dining neighbor or chatting with Justin or Annie behind the bar- who, by the way, serve up great cocktails...
One can eat at the bar, or in the dining room, complete with a view of Tom at the grill...or eat at the small bar next to the grill..
Food innovative following a grill theme..I had a marvellous grilled eggplant dish...grilled Brussels sprouts another favorite...and try Tom’s stuffies or Thai ribs to start...
Ambiance convivial...I never get tired of The Barn
Thanksgiving dinner was amazing. All 3 of us enjoyed a traditional thanksgiving dinner. I’m glad they let kids in over the holiday. We also went the night before and enjoyed our meal. If you go, get the bolognese.
Thanksgiving dinner! Was wonderful!!!
Wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner. Hoping to make it a tradition.
The food here is simply fantastic. Chef Tom and Able Sidekick Carter are poetry in motion and the results are astounding. We were here during the off season and ended up eating both of our dinners here, trying something different both nights, and were not disappointed with anything. Yes, we were surprised that the earliest we could get a table was 8pm, but it's a small restaurant, and their reputation is well-earned. So plan on making reservations early—and it's worth the wait even if you can't get in there until 8pm.
Everything was delicious! We had some trouble getting to the Barn and they were very accommodating and welcoming when we arrived!
Service was great and the meal was very special.
While we were fairly close to another couple, and the chef is working "in the round," the restaurant is quiet and cozy. We split the stuffed quahog appetizer which were excellent. Carol's salmon was a generous portion of a thick salmon filet. It was moist and delicious. My papperdelle bolognese was hearty, generous, and equally delicious. Service was prompt but not hurried. We were both very impressed. It is soooo nice to find truly excellent restaurants out on Block Island, because in most other places like this there aren't (because they don't feel they have to be all that good). We love Block Island and will be back at the Barn.
Honestly we should have left right after we were approached by the waitress (with no introduction) that we better hurry up and order bc there’s a whole bunch of people that just sat down and we only have 3 chefs. This totally threw us off, but we decided we were not going to be rushed and ordered drinks and a chuterie board first. Again the waitress was itching to take our order.... so we ordered our entrees. Guys ordered bolonase pasta and the girls ordered salmon. Low and behold waitress approaches us and says she made a mistake, the haddock button is right next to the salmon button would we be interested in eating this instead, (bc that’s what she ordered) otherwise they were serving our husband’s entrees and they would have to eat first. We waited patiently. Brussels sprouts were hard as rocks (you can tell they rushed and were not cooked. my gf’s salmon was over cooked and dry (she had the small piece.) The waitress did take this off the bill basically bc she had to, my friend had one bite. The waitress of course apologized stating that people make mistakes and what can you do. Not a great experience. Wine listed was a 2010, she brought out a 2014 and we paid the price that was listed for the 2010 wine. She also proceeded to tell us they had the best wine list...... They do not. We were greatly disappointed the manager never came by and asked us how everything was, or apologized for the ordeal. Quite disappointing. We should have left and went to Winfield’s.
Would recommend ONLY if you can eat inside. Who puts their guests on a porch with inadequate heat in cold weather? Maybe if we'd all worn down coats we would have been happier. Doubt it.
Pork Osso Bucco was wonderful; but the scallop appetizer stole the show. The scallops were seared so that they had a crispy outside with a juicy, tender, sweet inside. They work wonders with the hot skillets. I would go back in a heart beat.
One of my favorite restaurants on the island for a lovely relaxing white-tablecloth dinner. Food is always first rate as is service and atmosphere.
Meal was excellent
I was under the impression that it was a farm to table. Salmon, osco busco, steak? Only local fish was sword. Veg was green beans carrots prepped nothing special. Had the sword fish and it has no taste other than charred cooking oil and the chutney that it was served with was cold.
The restaurant was described as serving children over twelve. We walked into a party of ten with three kids under the age of 10.
Open kitchen was nice but if ur cooks are going to be out there please tell them to wear gloves and I get some cooks are trained by feel for a steaks done ness but wear a glove
Lastly: put down the side towel. Side towel should not be used to wipe your plated entree more than once. This cooks side towel was his security blanket.
Wanted to like this restaurant. It just was not as advertised.
My experience with the barn was mediocre. I’ve worked in all facets in the restaurant industry for over twenty years, mostly front of house. We had the bruschetta and weren’t that excited about it. They tasted over refrigerated so the flavors of the heirlooms didn’t come thru. Also, the portions was very generous which we were grateful for, however, I feel it’s a courteousy for the server to share if a guest has over ordered. The shishito peppers were inconsistent. Some were barely cooked and some were fire roasted and unfortunately didn’t taste seasoned. On a positive note the steak was really great and the Brussels were very good as well. I just felt like it was a little bit of a let down after hearing from locals that it was a spot not to be missed.
We were able to grab a reservation here on a very busy Saturday night. There were only 3 spots left when I booked it early that morning. Chose this based on a recommendation from a friend so we went to check it out. By far the best dining experience we have had in a really long time. Everything was perfect! Food so outstanding!! I wish they were open all the time!
Excellent food, service and ambiance!
Overall an excellent experience. I would recommend it highly.
Anniversary dinner for a couple, food and booze was GREAT
We were given an Amazing table looking at the ocean.(we did make a reservation 2 weeks in Advance)
All the food really farm to table . I had the best sweetest swordfish I had ever had in my life! Don’t miss this gem !
Delicious food. Beautiful location. Farm to table fresh.
Disappointed in the servers attitude, linen not pressed, food good and manager came by to check up on us
This was my 2nd time at The Barn and it did not disappoint! We had literally almost everything on the menu, our favorite being the osso bucco and the lamb lollipops. We brought some friends who were celebrating a birthday and staff put a candle in our chocolate mousse as well as gifting her with extra hazelnut crunch. All in all, it was a fabulous night!
Outstanding food. Stay at Spring House every year. First time at the Barn. Didn’t realize it was there. Frank went above and beyond to provide the best dining experience possible.
Outstanding. Finest martinis on the island!
Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal. The view was nice. The food was great
Supposed to be the best restaurant on the island these days. I had to see what all the buzz was about. A few hiccups with service, no one came to our table for the first 10–15 minutes that we were seated, to the point that we were about to walk out, but the food did not disappoint. It is a little pricey, but if you’re a foodie, you should check it out.
Awesome unique food in a beautiful setting! A real find for block island!
Based on the reviews - we had high expectations but we left disappointed. My filet lacked flavor and my wife had a swordfish steak that was soft and mushy. The Manager did a great job of handling the situation. Overall, this looks like a pretty well run restaurant but maybe the kitchen just had a bad night.
I was super excited to take my 16 year old boys to dinner. The noise level outside was terrible. Little kids screaming at top of there lungs. I told the waiter but nothing wa rectified. The restaurant should not allow guests run and scream when your paying that much for s nice dinner. At the very least they should have offered a glass of wine.
Great place! Location and view could not be better. Our server Alex was excellent. We were a romantic table of 2 on the covered deck. Nearby were 3 couples together at a table, a 3, and another couple. Great for any occasion. Great food. Great drinks. Highly recommend.
What a gem on beautiful Block Island! Our dinner was fabulous -- fresh local blue fish appetizer, gorgeous roasted Brussel sprouts starter, tender pork osso buco with amazing roasted local squash rounds and potatoes, capped off with delicious chocolate nutella mousse. A large party next to us ordered baked stuffed lobster for all and the platters were so stunning that we vowed to return for another dinner. The staff was topnotch and so attentive and the ambience was both energetic and romantic. The outside covered and enclosed patio has seating with views second to none. Go!
The Barn is truly a gem. The food is prepared with attention to quality and flavor. The ambiance is intimate and rustic chic. We loved everything about The Barn.
Great place! Exceptional service, outstanding food and drinks, special atmosphere and overall wonderful experience. Don’t skip this place.
Really cool space! Delightful food! There were 7 of us and the service was very good and attentive. Really great menu and delicious food
Amazing! Great venue and even better food! From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave you are going to have a great time
We had a lovely tasty meal at the barn for our anniversary. We had the octopus appetizer, a couple drinks, osso buco, and salmon. All were outstanding. The service was also exceptional. Waitress was helpful and attentive. We would definitely go back.
Possibly the best meal I ever ate! Started with the roasted Brussels sprouts, then the meltpork osso bucco for my entree. My husband had the zucchini bisque and swordfish which was equally fantastic! The Barn at Spring House is a
