we were seated 35 minutes after our reservation time. There were several dirty but open tables and we were placed in a tiny corner with no view??? Servers seemed stressed as was the hostess who seated us, obviously overwhelmed by the busy night. Food was top notch, so that nearly made up for the long wait and lackluster service. If this is the norm, bring your patience and understanding along with your appetite
Wasn't quit what we had hoped for on our anniversary, but it was good.
Food was delicious. My husband had the yellowtail and I had the Ahi. He loved his. My ahi was good but I didn’t care for the extensive use of ginger. If you are a big fan of ginger, this dish is for you. Pleased that they are dog friendly.
Delightful little bistro in downtown Cambria. Parking was a bit of a challenge on the evening we were there, but that’s not the fault of the restaurant. We requested a table in the enclosed outdoor patio. Heaters kept it very comfortable. The service was very friendly and efficient. No long waits for each course, everything was paced just right. The food was delicious! I had the seared tuna and my wife the scampi. Both were excellent. The wine list was very good and not over priced. We didn’t have dessert so I can’t comment on that. Overall, we had a wonderful meal and I look forward to dining here again.
We had a wonderful meal at the Black Cat. The atmosphere was relaxing and the meal was well paced for leisurely dining. The food was very good. The clam chowder was the best my husband had. He also enjoyed his scallops. I loved my duck as it was very tender and enjoyed the barley risotto. The pots de creme dessert was divine. Would go back.
Food would have been rated decent if it cost 1/3 what it did. Service was great, but the cuisine was just not on par with the tab here.
Black Cat’s food is fabulous. We love the menu, which is varied and offers something for everyone. We have always had very good service and the noise level is low so you are able to converse without having to raise your voice. We eat there every time we visit Cambria.
We found the restaurant dim and dingy. The hostess first seated us at a small table for two next to a wall. When we saw other couples at larger tables we asked to move and were accommodated. We both ordered the salmon and it was overcooked. The restaurant has mostly very good reviews, but maybe we just hit an off night. It is priced like a high end restaurant, but not in our experience.
We attempted to cancel our reservation to eat elsewhere, but the phone was never answered after calling almost ten times. We were unable to eat elsewhere and ended up at The Black Cat 60 minutes after our reservation. We were advised it was a 20-30 minute wait and we were also advised they were understaffed as an explanation for never answering their phone. The hostess was fantastic and moved us ahead of the line and got us seated within 10 minutes. Our waiter was not pleasant and a bit rude. Maybe due to being overworked and understaffed? However the “bus woman,” who appeared to be in her mid 60’s in age, was very nice and service oriented. I don’t remember what I ordered, but I do remember the food was average. I wouldn’t chose the The Black Cat during any future travels to Cambria.
The Black Cat Cambria was amazing!!! The food was delicious! The combination of ingredients in each of the sauces was outstanding! Honestly, we cannot remember when we have had such fresh, unique and delicious food. The fish were cooked to perfection. The service, ambience also great! Truly unforgettable….🙏🏻
We look forward to always coming to the Black Cat in Cambria. My wife had the Sea Scallops and I had the Chicken Piccata. The chicken was very good with the cream sauce, vegetables and rice. The scallops were amazing with the corn pudding and tomatillo cream sauce. For dessert we shared the Salted Chocolate Carmel Pot de Creme. A wonderful way to complete a meal. The Black Cat was not too busy at the time we went. The service was great and the timing of the dishes were perfect. We did sit inside and the restaurant is a converted older house so the rooms are smaller. They also had outdoor seating as well. Overall a great experience. Look forward to coming back again!
Delicious from appetizers to dessert. We totally enjoyed ourselves. This restaurant is a gem.
Cozy bistro with good ambiance. Food was very good, but the service was slow and inattentive. We kept getting passed from one wait person to the another.
From the outside I was not sure what it would be like but once inside it was very welcoming with somewhat elegant decor. The food was excellent, different and tasty and everything so fresh. Great wine list and excellent service. A bit pricey but worth it. Will go back.
Cute and quaint, great service and good food. We would definitely eat there again.
First time to the Black Cat. Meal was only okay. The salmon and the duck were over cooked, while the rack of lamb was fine. The chowder was good, the grilled romaine salad only fair.
Great food and dessert s. A find !
Friendly staff, food and drinks were very good! Thank you!
Went to The Black Cat for my birthday. The food was awesome, especially the Lemon cake.
Delicious! Everything was so good!
Was looking for a quiet place to eat. Great food, service and ambience. Thank you!
Appetizers, main dishes and desserts all were delicious. Excellent experience! Highly recommend this restaurant!
It was unremarkable. See Yelp review here.
Need more fruit desserts and desserts without chocolate
We really enjoyed our meal! All of the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend The Black Cat!
Nice menu with good choices but dishes fell just a bit below our expectations. Wait staff was very good.
We’ve been here a number of times over the years. We tried to go earlier in August but on the night we arrived the place was packed and there was only one server. On this night there was adequate staffing and not overcrowded so we were hopeful. I ordered the special of seabass and sadly the kitchen overcooked it terribly, it tasted like very tough chicken. The PDC dessert, usually a winner tasted old. Have to say we were incredibly disappointed.
The covered porch was great. Food was excellent.
The place itself at first glance seems very tired. But great staff and very good food. Try the stuffed fried olives and a glass of red wine - very good.
Aug. 12, Thursday we had reservation and ate dinner at your restaurant. We came here last June 6, 2021 as well for my husband’s birthday.
On June 6th, I ORDERED RACK OF LAMB in medium rare. But, when my food came…my lamb was well done and chewy!
when we came back yesterday, Aug. 12th to eat dinner at your Restautant…I ORDERED EXACTLY THE SAME THING…RACK OF LAMB IN MEDIUM RARE! UNFORTUNATELY, MY LAMB WAS OVERDONE AGAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME!!!
I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED AND UPSET! Because, I was craving for it!! 😭😭😭
I was trying to figure out “‘WHY this happened two times in a row??? Does your cook did not use a meat thermometer
to check the right temperature for medium rare??? Or, maybe who ever cooked my lamb just “‘EYE-BALLED”’ the meat just the way it looks??!!!
When, I told my server about it…she said “‘THAT WAS THE LAST RACK OF LAMB and THERE’s. NO MORE IN THE BACK LEFT!!! 😭😭😭
So, I DONT have any choice except to eat it!
We always come to Cambria to relax every month. And, eating at your restaurant is also part of our plans to visit! But, I’m concerned that, If I eat at your restaurant and order the Rack of lamb again…would I be happy or scared to try to order it?? Wondering if I will get a “‘OVERDONE LAMB”’ again??!!! 😭😭😭
Delicious food and nice wine list. Pot de crepe was the topper! Thanks!
Good food, but some plates came out cold from the kitchen.
Great atmosphere. Wonderful service. Amazing food from appetizers to dinner.
Food was really good. Our server, I can't remember his name, but he was amazing, and probably the best sever I've ever had!
Good food, competent and friendly service, housed in an interesting historic location with an atmosphere of its own.
Chicken piccata and Strozapreti pasta as well as mushroom soup are excellent! Grill salmon is as expected very good! Desert could be better - lemon cake texture is particularly not satisfying - too loose yet not smooth .
Old house smell was a bummer - the place could use a paint job or an update
Cambria is a charming town. The black cat bistro is a nice place to dine. Service was very slow and unfortunately we were forgotten on the front patio area. The food was good. We would consider eating there again under different circumstances.
Very limited menu, salad I got said it had strawberries on it but it looked like they were one week old. I think my husband‘s meal was better than mine but I would never go back. It’s just an old house but it wasn’t very charming just just worn and old. Our waitress was very nice and lovely and did a nice job.
