Outstanding meal, especially on a busy day. variety of food for all family members including vegetarian
Fine dining by accomplished chef. Everything was delicious, wine, food, appetizer and dessert.
Had a wonderful dinner, the mahi mahi was delicious and my mom had the scallops and she said they were the best she has had. The only reason I didn't give the food a five star was the fingerling potatoes were not cooked enough. Also the fresh squeezed lemonade was excellent.
Good meal, fine service…
Excellent. American Bistro. Not Italian. I would go again in a minute.
The restaurant has multiple rooms to choose a table from like a house. For starters we had their award winning clam chowder and honestly it was as good as the hype. Really tasted like clams and rich but not overly. We sopped it all up with the warm bread. We then had the special pan seared mahi mahi with fingerling potatoes, the stuffed pork chop with pancetta and fontina with Brussels sprouts and balsamic reduction and the rack of lamb. The latter two were our favorites.
The place got crowded by 7p and I think only 2 waiters and receptionist so it was busy. We finished the meal with an amazing dark chocolate pot de creme with a bacon sea salt short bread. Delish!
Entrees were $30 and up. Kind of pricey but great portions and taste. Would def come back.
The food was amazing!!! We ate at the patio and unfortunately the noise level was just not good. It was really hard to have a conversation Overall, the food, ambiance and service was good!!! We will return next time I’m in town.
Spent a lovely evening with my sisters. The food and wine were delicious and the service was excellent! We were also the only people in the restaurant but I can’t imagine even with a full house they would be any less than perfect. Thank you, Black Cat!
Food was good but there was a long wait for food and between courses. The waiter disappeared halfway theough the meal.
Slow service, loud, messed up order, food was just ok
Everything was delicious!
The seafood that we had was wonderful. Some of the best scallops that I have ever eaten. My wife also enjoyed her shrimp scampi made with a red pepper sauce.
Best duck breast and barley risotto ever! Wonderful ambience but service was inattentive at first. Shouldn’t complain about that in these times tho!!! Just glad this gem is still open and cooking up great food!
Husbands lamb was pretty good. The Mediterranean sea bass ( special) not cooked all the way and the part that was was tasty. Too much on the plate though.. tapenade, tomatoes, potatoes, broccoli…looked like a bit of a mess.
Excellent food and service. Wife and I had a great time.
We’re always happy with the food and service at The Black Cat. It’s a cozy place with an excellent wine selection and delicious food.
The food was amazing as was the service. We have been her quite a few times and it always been good. Absolutely try it!
I came here about 3 years ago, and have been thinking about that meal since then. I’ve touted it as the “best meal I’ve ever had” whenever the topic has come up. I FINALLY made it back after all this time, and was so happy I did! I’m already trying to figure out how/when I’ll be able to make the trip again.
The food & service were great as usual. We always come to eat at the Black Cat whenever we stay in Cambria.
Charming little house that was converted into a Bistro, fireplace in the front room made our dining experience feel quaint and cozy. The food and staff were great.
We had an excellent meal, servers were gracious, and the ambience was very cozy. We'd definitely go back next time we visit Cambria. Pro tip: Try the friend green olives stuffed with gorgonzola as an appetizer. Delicious!
My wife had the scallops and absolutely loved them. I had the special sea bass and it was excellent.
The Black Cat was a wonderful experience. The restaurant was charming, the service was attentive and the food was delicious! I would recommend it to anyone visiting Cambria.
The chef did a lovely job with the food. The quail appetizer was a delicate treat and the scallops entree was pure yum. The staff was eager to help and friendly. On the downside, with low light and dark walls we really needed our table candle to work, but no one lit it until our entree arrived and it immediately went out. The kir royal is a fun choice for cocktails but perhaps had too much Creme de cassis- the drink was as dark red as the walls. We also ordered a bottle of wine which wasn’t served until after our entrees arrived. Overall, a charming place with great food, nice staff and a few kinks to work out.
We had a wonderful meal and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Husband had the scallops and I had the chicken picante. When I read the menu, I thought it might have cooked bell peppers but they were chopped nice and small over the top of the chicken. The fried kale was the bomb! We would highly recommend The Black Cat and will come back.
we were seated 35 minutes after our reservation time. There were several dirty but open tables and we were placed in a tiny corner with no view??? Servers seemed stressed as was the hostess who seated us, obviously overwhelmed by the busy night. Food was top notch, so that nearly made up for the long wait and lackluster service. If this is the norm, bring your patience and understanding along with your appetite
Wasn't quit what we had hoped for on our anniversary, but it was good.
Food was delicious. My husband had the yellowtail and I had the Ahi. He loved his. My ahi was good but I didn’t care for the extensive use of ginger. If you are a big fan of ginger, this dish is for you. Pleased that they are dog friendly.
Delightful little bistro in downtown Cambria. Parking was a bit of a challenge on the evening we were there, but that’s not the fault of the restaurant. We requested a table in the enclosed outdoor patio. Heaters kept it very comfortable. The service was very friendly and efficient. No long waits for each course, everything was paced just right. The food was delicious! I had the seared tuna and my wife the scampi. Both were excellent. The wine list was very good and not over priced. We didn’t have dessert so I can’t comment on that. Overall, we had a wonderful meal and I look forward to dining here again.
We had a wonderful meal at the Black Cat. The atmosphere was relaxing and the meal was well paced for leisurely dining. The food was very good. The clam chowder was the best my husband had. He also enjoyed his scallops. I loved my duck as it was very tender and enjoyed the barley risotto. The pots de creme dessert was divine. Would go back.
Food would have been rated decent if it cost 1/3 what it did. Service was great, but the cuisine was just not on par with the tab here.
Black Cat’s food is fabulous. We love the menu, which is varied and offers something for everyone. We have always had very good service and the noise level is low so you are able to converse without having to raise your voice. We eat there every time we visit Cambria.
We found the restaurant dim and dingy. The hostess first seated us at a small table for two next to a wall. When we saw other couples at larger tables we asked to move and were accommodated. We both ordered the salmon and it was overcooked. The restaurant has mostly very good reviews, but maybe we just hit an off night. It is priced like a high end restaurant, but not in our experience.
We attempted to cancel our reservation to eat elsewhere, but the phone was never answered after calling almost ten times. We were unable to eat elsewhere and ended up at The Black Cat 60 minutes after our reservation. We were advised it was a 20-30 minute wait and we were also advised they were understaffed as an explanation for never answering their phone. The hostess was fantastic and moved us ahead of the line and got us seated within 10 minutes. Our waiter was not pleasant and a bit rude. Maybe due to being overworked and understaffed? However the “bus woman,” who appeared to be in her mid 60’s in age, was very nice and service oriented. I don’t remember what I ordered, but I do remember the food was average. I wouldn’t chose the The Black Cat during any future travels to Cambria.
The Black Cat Cambria was amazing!!! The food was delicious! The combination of ingredients in each of the sauces was outstanding! Honestly, we cannot remember when we have had such fresh, unique and delicious food. The fish were cooked to perfection. The service, ambience also great! Truly unforgettable….🙏🏻
We look forward to always coming to the Black Cat in Cambria. My wife had the Sea Scallops and I had the Chicken Piccata. The chicken was very good with the cream sauce, vegetables and rice. The scallops were amazing with the corn pudding and tomatillo cream sauce. For dessert we shared the Salted Chocolate Carmel Pot de Creme. A wonderful way to complete a meal. The Black Cat was not too busy at the time we went. The service was great and the timing of the dishes were perfect. We did sit inside and the restaurant is a converted older house so the rooms are smaller. They also had outdoor seating as well. Overall a great experience. Look forward to coming back again!
Delicious from appetizers to dessert. We totally enjoyed ourselves. This restaurant is a gem.
Cozy bistro with good ambiance. Food was very good, but the service was slow and inattentive. We kept getting passed from one wait person to the another.
From the outside I was not sure what it would be like but once inside it was very welcoming with somewhat elegant decor. The food was excellent, different and tasty and everything so fresh. Great wine list and excellent service. A bit pricey but worth it. Will go back.
