The Conservatory - The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay

Crystal was our amazing waitress and we will be returning just so we can have her again!
Exquisite experience. Top notch in every way. Highly recommended.
It's the Ritz at Half Moon Bay. The service and the food were both excellent. My dad and I sat next to the window and viewed the gorgeous sunset while enjoying a delicious dinner. Simply fabulous.
Amazing!!!!!
Wonderful food and service
The Ritz-Carlton at Half Moon Bay is predominately a business/golf complex facility with the benefit of views out over the Pacific Ocean. The staff are extremely courteous and helpful. Great service
On arrival the valet explained straight away were we could find various facilities within the hotel.
Lovely experience. Food was wonderful - flavor and presentation exceeded all expectations and our server Dana was perfectly attentive without being obtrusive. Nicely paced and great views. Look forward to returning.
Service was top notch. Food was delicious. Drinks were great! Will definitely come back!
Loved it!!
Friendly service, made me feel very welcome. Delicious food. Fantastic view.
Great service - great view - great food!
The food was excellent. Our waiter was extremely nice and thoughtful re. our special occasion. The setting was beautiful.
Wife’s 65th birthday. The Conservatory is the casual dining room. Nice but noisy. The hamburger was by far the best I’ve ever had. Not cheap, but worth the experience. The scallops were perfectly cooked, the waitstaff were on it without being intrusive.
We had a horrible experience here. After dropping almost $1,000 on a round of golf next door on the ocean course entertaining clients, my wife met me for dinner to celebrate her birthday. Another couple was seated at the table next to us and almost immediately we’re acting very inappropriately. They were clearly intoxicated and were discussing inappropriate topics loudly. They engaged in a FaceTime call with one of the males friends while sitting at the table, and when we asked a manager to address the situation and ask them to stop the couple became very confrontational and kept trying to cause problems with us. The female kept saying I was staring at her and trying to intimidate her, said that her brother was a “hitman” and that she was going to call him and that one of us wouldn’t be leaving the restaurant alive, accused us of not being able to “afford our dinner,” etc. The staff offered to move them to another table and they refused. It was absolutely bizarre. The restaurant manager called security and we left.
I did leave without paying, the restaurant and hotel staff apologized profusely, and told us they would be addressing the situation with the other couple and that they would be calling me the next day to explain how they would make this up to us, but Maurice (the head manager of the property) never called.
This is not what I expect for an establishment of this type. It is unacceptable, I don’t feel the staff handled it appropriately, and they didn’t follow through on their promise to call me the following day to follow up. Needless to say, I don’t think we will be coming back.
$147 got us a hamburger w/fries, cod sandwich w/fries, and one dessert. The carpet was old, dirty, and matted—I’ve seen similar lining a dog house. We were not initially greeted upon our arrival at lunch reservation time, then finally were deferred to another employee (assumedly the hostess), who seated us. Another brought water, then we waited for the server/waitress in our “zone” to show up. We ordered quickly and the food was brought in reasonable time. Five interactions to this point were conducted with five different people. The waitress eventually checked back on us, but I had to flag her down to order a dessert, then again to get the check.
Food was...a burger and fish, w/fries—no better or worse than fast food, just a different atmosphere. “Aioli” and a couple field greens don’t magically turn average food into above average. In fact, it detracted from the already over-salted cod. The burger (ordered well done) was actually charred and so dry that it could hardly be cut with the table knife. I actually took a piece into my hand and crumbled it. The taste was otherwise ok.
Was this the Ritz Carlton? Anyone pretentious enough to give a socially acceptable response that the food or service was good is either delusional or...well delusional.
The entire experience pretty much sucked. As this was a birthday lunch, the only positive was that a generic “Happy Birthday” was swirled onto the side of the dessert plate. Else, this review would merit a zero rating.
We spent a lovely afternoon having a Birthday lunch for my wife’s birthday! Our server , Payton was wonderful. The table over looking the ocean view was stunning. We went to the gift store on level 2; great attendants & products. We spent some time strolling the grounds and even watched some live golf on 14th hole. The biggest surprise was $40 valet fee that we were not informed when I made reservation on Open Table
Was a great dinner and the service was really outstanding
Service and food were exceptional. We had a reservation and requested a table by the window but there was not one when we arrived so we waited until we got one as we were celebrating a special occasion. Prices were a little high but it is the Ritz Carlton!
Not what I had expected.
It was loud and food wasn’t good. Didn’t even eat 1/4 of our dishes. Packed it up and it ended up in the garbage. The beef wagyu burger was soggy and not good. The fries were good though.
I don’t think we will be coming back. This was our 4th time going there and it’s been going downhill year after year.
Always delicious high quality. Veryexpensive
Great food. Servers were very polite. Loved walking along the beach. The only negative - $40 for valet parking. If they stop charging $40 for valet, I will go more often. I am sure more people feel that way.
Our entrees took over an hour to be served. Overpriced and understaffed.
Overpriced and mediocre food. Plus $40 to valet adds insult to injury!
Honestly if you're staying at the Ritz I think this is the right place to eat (unless you're doing room service or eating on the patio). Navio's fun for brunch but the execution isn't really up to the price point. Last time I ate at the Conservatory was before the remodel. The changes haven't been for the better. They took out the old wine bar and made the floor plan more open, loud, and seem to have packed in more seats. It's energetic and bustling, which you may love or hate.
Service, however, was crap. Just endless periods of waiting for no apparent reason beyond being understaffed. We were given excuses and apologies because of it being a crazy night and people doing wedding proposals, but ... I assume it's a crazy night every Saturday at the Ritz?
Food was good. It's pricey, but ... you're eating at the Ritz.
The one star in it all is the bar -- I'd just recommend eating there, service is exceptional, drinks are good, and you don't need to worry about a reservation. But if my experience was at all typical I'd avoid sitting down for dinner -- the staff is just not up to the staffing level or efficacy to manage the entire dining room.
We were in Half Moon Bay and had played golf in the morning. We thought it might be nice to have dinner at the hotel. The restaurant is in the lobby. I am not sure but I think it was originally the lobby and was re-outfitted to be a restaurant. The view is nice, looking south at a garden area and to the ocean to the west. It is very loud as there is nothing to subdue the noise from the rest of the lobby and the two story ceiling. Our waitress was very nice and attentive but the menu was a bit disappointing for the expense. The most disappointing part of the evening was finding out that we had to pay $40+tip to park (no other choice but to valet). They'll put it on your dinner bill or you can pay out front. We would have uber'd had there been any notification of this ahead of time. There are some really good restaurants in town that we enjoyed while there.
Very noisy - service not the tops - food very expensive for what you get - good presentation with dinner but my food was warm and undercooked.
Beautiful views, friendly staff, food was mediocre at best.
Beautiful view and great ambiance.
Expensive, but worth it. Be sure to have your valet parking claim ticket validated, otherwise you must pay astronomical cost.
Outstanding service! From the time we arrived to the time we walked outside.
Overall service experience from the moment we were greeted by hostess (not welcoming), waitress (hardly there), food delivery girl (terrible attitude), etc. was NOT good!
Ritz need to strengthen service training.
It was divine!!
Just be prepared to fork over the $40 for valet parking. Besides that, everything was great!
Perfect!!!
Crystal was the best waitress ever. She was pleasant, friendly, thoughtful and helpful. She made the dinner enjoyable.
It is a beautiful setting looking out over the activities of the hotel, the ocean, the green for the 18th hole of the north golf course. Service was over the top excellent by our waiter Dana who made us feel very special on our 54th wedding anniversary. The menu for lunch was short but excellent with a smoked and thinly sliced duck breast as an appetizer and a fruity including shavings of orange peel which I have never seen or tasted before. I had a terrific chiopino with a wonderfully thick tomato broth, my wife had meatballs with terrific homemade pasta -- some of which I stole to put in my chiopino. Fabulous combination! We shared a wonderful bottle of Champange but we needed a glass of red wine to finish our meal. Our waiter made a perfect recommendation. We had a wonderful day!
Great food but very expensive
Serene & tranquil setting with ocean view is the main attraction here. Food very good, but over-priced.
Our waitperson, Cameron was friendly, efficient and courteous.
Great service. Excellent food. Too many tables too close together. Sat at table for 2 that barely fit food and drinks and could easily tip over.
Our table was in an excellent location at the window with a view of the Ocean. We had an enjoyable lunch. Thank You.
