The Fat Lady Bar & Restaurant
Portions are small, and prices fairly high. I wasn't too crazy about my Mediterranean chicken pasta, which tasted sour, but I didn't want to pay$35 for a scallop dish. It has good atmosphere and good service. I prefer its brunch menu.
Cozy, fun, delicious and unique. A must! Highly recommend the pâté and lamb.
We always love going to this restaurant. This time the service was slow and we were there for over 2 hours! One member of our party was late, but our server was very slow between check-ins and took so long to get our order for dessert that we just skipped it and went home. We enjoyed the evening but it was REALLY long and a lot of waiting for our server.
LOVE this place!
We love The Fat Lady. The food is always good and if you hit it around a holiday they decorate like no other restaurant I have ever seen. Parking garage right next door. You can't go wrong here.
Had a business lunch. Food was good and service very attentive. My only suggestion is the need for an update. The menu and preparation style is dated and doesn’t really reflect current tastes.
Always terrific, great food, great service
Oh how we love this place. It is authentic, family owned, long lasting and wonderful. We have celebrated countless celebrations here. The brunch is terrific, dinners sooo good. The decor has many antiques and quirky pieces of art but it is especially fabulous during three holidays: Christmas, Valentines Day and Halloween. Those are the times that it is lavishly decorated...and differently each year with creative themes. We were there for a birthday this time, had a charming server (Alice) who is also a talented artist. The owner, Patricia, is almost always present to greet, seat and welcome people. At brunch you will start with a plate of complimentary mini-muffins, at dinner order the fried zucchini as a starter. This is definitely the "antidote" to all the chain restaurants and the slick modern spaces that open and only survive a few years. The Fat Lady has been in business for decades, and it combines tremendous character with delicious cuisine.
Great food and drinks. Always decorated so well for the holidays. The Fat Lady never disappoints!
The food was very good and the service excellent. Unfortunately, it was so loud that we could not hear each other talk without shouting. We probably won't go back unless it's a weekday.
It was the first time at the FL for my 3 companions. They have lived in Oakland for years and didn't know about this gem! They were really impressed and sending pics to friends left and right. We had a great time.
The best place to celebrate the Holidaze with friends! Really the best place to celebrate anything. The service is perfect, attentive without interrupting our party. If you are slow to get into the season get yourself to the Fat Lady and get your winter wonderland spirit on.
Great food, excellent service. An Oakland classic. A real gem.
The waitress we had was not cordial towards minorities, just the white person at our table of four (1 Chinese, 2 African Americans, and 1 Caucasian). I tried to ignore it, but it was obvious she was only comfortable with her own kind. Too bad.
Great evening in every way! The Holiday decorations gorgeous, wonderful meal, such fun!
Yummy food in a fun and beautiful ambience. Copy and busy but not overwhelming, very enjoyable, great service!
Great service. Delicious Pork Chop. Enjoyed the decor for the holiday season.
Food and cocktails were attractively presented and tasty, but with small portions. We enjoyed the enclosed booth next to the bar, which gave a feeling of privacy. Wait staff was attentive.
Best meal I have had in years. My date and I shared everything. The seafood bisque was amazing. The cheese plate complemented it well and our waitress patiently explained each of the cheeses to us. We had the steak which was tender and flavorful and the Dungeness crab ravioli which was fresh and light. The tiramisu for dessert topped the meal off beautifully. Our waitress was attentive but also allowed us plenty of time to enjoy the meal. The hostess seated us at a splendid table that made us feel we were dining by ourselves.
Birthday celebration with friends. Alway a fun place to get together, enjoy the special holiday decorations with good food and good friends.
What a GREAT find! We were looking for something coming home from OAK airport at 5:30 to avoid traffic. We stepped into a beautiful old world charm restaurant decorated amazing for the the holidays. The food was great. Interesting cocktails. Safe parking across the street. We will definitely make the trip back here again!
So fun to visit during the holiday season.....Christmas in Iceland! Food was excellent. Service was attentive but not overwhelming. Loved it.
We were the nosiy ones due to cranky toddler. The staff were very kind, accomadating, and efficient. Lovely dining experience.
Oysters and cocktails were amazing and the food was even better! Such a romantic, cozy place !
The place is awesome to look at and the food was great. Parking was easy and the environment was great.
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at The Fat Lady. We love looking at the unique and ever-changing decor of the restaurant and the small size and dim lighting made it feel very cozy and intimate. Our dishes, salmon and seafood pasta, were delicious and the service was spot-on. Our server, Jessica, was friendly and professional. We will go back soon!
Our Opentable rsvp was in 30mins we arrived early and were seated right away. Food was on point. Despite a full house of dining customers... Flat Iron Steak grilled to perfection, Zuchinni Fries absolutely a must! Service was extremely pleasant and food was prompt and delicious!
Great location for anyone taking ferry to Chase center or Giants games 👍
I believe Troy was our waiter and he was very attentive. We enjoyed our evening and the food selections were great.
Fantastic in every way! Renee is lovely. The food is great. Amazing fries. Wonderful old school spot with terrific food!
Inside decoration was so cute. Takes you back in the days I would say around the 70s-80s. The food is amazing. My friend got the pork chop (tried a piece and it was juicy, moister and the flavor was pretty good), I ordered the chicken Marsala and it was better than I expected and my bf ordered the seafood pasta with red sauce and that tasted good too. I would come back to try other dishes.
This hidden gem is a must-visit in Oakland for your next special occasion. The food was to DIE for, and the cocktails (made by a very quippy bartender) were delightful. We ordered ribeye and risotto with scallops (best scallops ever) and had dessert even though we were stuffed. The interior is a cross between a speakeasy and a harem - sparkly and dark and magical. GO! You will not be disappointed.
Old fashioned service, good food great atmosphere. Wonderful holiday decorations
Good food and ambience. Interesting and delicious salads.
Fabulous menu, food and environment are wonderful. The best of independent restaurants. I have been going for 4 years and it never disappoints.
Very enjoyable place with quirky, fun décor and ambiance. Pleasant, down to earth staff. Very enjoyable food, although one or two plainer dishes might be nice. We had a dinner guest who has allergies to several things including spices and selection was a little difficult. The kitchen helped by leaving out an ingredient, so that was nice.
Food was delicious and service was exceptional, as usual! Love going here with my family
Absolutely would recommend The Fat Lady when visiting Jack London Sq. in Oakland. Excellent food & our server, Alice, is top notch. Great location.
Waitresses not very friendly. This place is old and tired.
A classic spot with a great vibe....will definitely return.
