The Fat Lady Bar & Restaurant
Consistently good. Enjoyed the Halloween deorations! Thanks
Our favorite neighborhood hangout. Enjoyed the Mai Tai and juicy tender thick pork chop, and the crab cakes were as good as ever. The waitress seemed somewhat inexperienced, which showed in her giving us the bill and forgetting to ask whether we wanted dessert (we didn't).
For more than 15 years I have been coming here for birthdays and special occasions-and I am never disappointed. This visit was no exception- excellent service and food. Go at 11:30 when they open— the noise level is low and you can get a great table. The interior decorations right now for Halloween are great! The staff is very nice. Can’t wait for my Christmastime visit!
This is the time of year that we love to check out The Fat Lady with its Halloween décor. Plus, my daughter has to have their seasonal pumpkin entrée with risotto and scallops. She dreams of it all year! I enjoyed my salmon (sounds boring, but I assure you, it wasn't) set on a bed of nicely sauteed vegetables. Two people in our party had the seafood pasta and two had the hamburgers. I was surprised how large the hamburgers were! It seemed like the patty was a whole pound! And, of course, there's dessert. Enjoyed a very pleasant evening with my family.
Always lives up to its reputation. Best restaurant in Jack London Square
Very good and tasty food. First time I've had fried Zucchini for an appetizer. I'll have that again for sure.
Date lady had Prime rib. Big enough to feed two people. I had Calamari steak. Okay but I've had better.
Lemon cream cake dessert was very good. Small place and crowed a little bit too noisy. Did not have any problem talking to my date lady though.
Always love coming here!
Our server was overloaded with tables and could not cover everyone.
Food was great and the atmosphere was good and noise level not bad.
I would highly recommend and for food and atmosphere !
Such a gem. They close for three days to enable them to decorate for Halloween which, in Bay Area fashion, they take very seriously. Fabulous atmosphere, great vibe, comfortable and casual. Food is carefully prepared and the drinks are correctly crafted and delicious. Best French onion soup in the East Bay. New York style crème brûlée – yum. Love this place.
Cool, eclectic restaurant. Lovely atmosphere and food!
First time at Fat Lady was perfect! Dinner and drinks were perfect. Looking forward to returning again.
The waitress was awesome.
The food, for the price we expected much better. Not bad but value didn’t equal quality.
It was 90degrees outside and there was no A.C. inside. I do not enjoy sweating while trying to eat. Our table neighbors were also complaining. But again the waitress was awesome. I may try it a second time but will def NOT recommend to anyone else until I visit again ( not anytime soon)
The Fat Lady offers a one of a kind ambiance with even better food. Highly recommended if you’re in Oakland.
We enjoyed the old style feel of this place. Its very unique. Tables are close together but it's not too bothersome. We could still have a normal conversation without feeling like people were listening or it was too loud. The service was great and the server was friendly talking sports with my son. We all enjoyed our meals although we thought the portions were a bit on the small side for the price.
I've dined at The Fat Lady several times now and each time I've been treated as a valued guest and feel quite at home in response to the personalized treatment the staff provided me. I will continue to patronize this fine establishment for many years to come.
Every dish was delicious and well prepared. Service was excellent. The decor is unusual and fun. Will definitely go back. Loved the risotto with scallops and chevre roasted tomato salad especially.
The Fat Lady Restaurant and Bar was a nice place for dinner. The menu is limited but the dishes were tasty. The service and attention was good. It is popular as evidenced by the bar and tables being occupied all evening.
The food and drinks here are consistently amazing. There was an issue with fruit flies constantly buzzing us during our meal, but I'm guessing that is not a constant problem. Great location to dip over before seeing a movie.
Thank you so much Pat for the great experience in your house, not kidding, we really loved the stay and the contact to you people, it was simply awesome to be with you...
Great Reuben sandwich. My friend had the prawn pasta and loved it. Wish they had beer on tap
Birthday celebration was amazing. Everyone loved their meals and bartender made great drinks.
Having thought ahead to book a lunch reservation, it paid off by securing the cute alcove off the bar--really a plus on a busy Friday. The noise level was tolerable, was able to visit and catch up with an old friend, as well as enjoy a really nice lunch. I love their steak salad, the steak was perfectly prepared. My friend enjoyed the special lamb shank luncheon plate. The service is consistently good, which is one reason I enjoy coming back again and again. A cozy, gem of a place, close to home in Alameda!
This is clearly a beloved gem that we’d never visited in all our years being in the East Bay. The decor is fabulous. The staff is professional and very capable. The vibe is lively and fun— though one patron cackling at insane decibels for 20 minutes straight was a little much. In any case, we really enjoyed our dinner on a recent Friday night. Got a last-minute reservation. Ordered the delicious scampi appetizer and a bottle of wine. Had two chicken entrees— the one on special and also the Marsala. They were good— not anything extremely inspired but definitely good and at a fair price. Finished with the decadent chocolate pudding. Overall, had a memorable dinner and would certainly return!
We had a great time at The Fat Lady. Their char grilled prime rib, mashed potatoes and veggies were delicious. We highly recommend having the Meyer Lemon cake for dessert! We will definitely go again in the future.
The “Cheers” of Jack London Square. Long history of fine food and warm service from a family owned restaurant. Hope there is forty more years of business to come!
It was a great evening. Service was exceptional.
We went to The Fat Lady last week for the first time, curious to try it out, not sure what to expect. We were more than pleasantly surprised. We intend to go again-- and maybe again, etc.
This historic joint is near Jack London Square and quite a treat for a visitor to discover. Welcoming, attentive staff who take great care to assure you are enjoying your experience and meal. Decent wine list, great craft cocktail menu, lots of local cuisine including a superior Ceviche. Try the roasted fig and almond gelato too. I'll return when I am back in Oakland, which is about four times a year. Kudos!
I have always loved The Fat Lady! This visit, however, was somewhat disappointing. As always, the menu was delightful and it was hard to choose.
I chose Scallops with a mixture of risotto, rice and a couple of other pastas. The presentation was lovely. However, the flavor (or lack thereof) was good; but not up to my previous visits. The scallops were overdone and a bit tough. The pasta had the consistency of paste.
When I perused the wine list ready to order a glass of white wine I was taken aback! There weren't more than a half dozen or so white wines and they were all chardonnays or sauvignon blancs and not appealing at all. The tiramisu I chose for dessert was okay; but again not particularly flavorful.
I'll go back once to give it one more chance. Perhaps the chef was on vacation or having an "off" night.
If you live in the bay area and have not been to the Fat Lady, you must go. Funky, eclectic atmosphere with superb food and drinks. Such an unusual place. Makes putting up with Bay Area traffic bearable.
Food is excellent. The pork chop is very succulent & tender. Servers & owners are very friendly and spot on with service
Fish special was great as was the Calamari steak
If you want an old school, traditional Oakland eatery, The Fat Lady is the place. Excellent service, great food (love the fried calamari appetizer!) and a fun setting. Always a delight.
Have been going to this restaurant for more than 30 years
Always great service
We were seated at the bar initially ~ we were a bit early but than were not seated til 40 minutes after our reservation time. It was explained but felt odd. Food is ok not outstanding ~ portions smallish. Overall not a great experience and no response from the restaurant.
Perfect night for two
The food was fantastic!! My husband and I were in Oakland and chose this spot and I am so glad we did! Get the zucchini fries- I swear they are as good or better than any potato fries I’ve had! We also had great steak bruschetta (so tender and flavorful) as an appetizer to share. For our main dishes we ended up sharing the grilled lamb and chicken Marsala. The Marsala was absolutely delicious! Amazing flavor in the chicken and a delightful mushroom and red wine sauce.
Our waitress was super friendly and definitely made great suggestions when we weren’t sure what to do.
Ambiance is super fun and cool- it was a great time!
Pricey but very good. All of our food choices were excellent. The ambiance is wonderfully over the top.
It's a unique and charming environment. Servers are friendly and attentive. The food is good.
An old time, classic San Francisco restaurant... In the heart of Oakland! Great steaks & cocktails.
