Going to miss this place :-( Terrific food and service.
This place is/was a gem. So sad that it is closing because of landlord greed. There was no place like it downtown - great food, very reasonable prices and casual vibe. I hope the owners and chef can open another place somewhere in Toronto in the near future. When they do, I'll be there.
I’m really going to miss this place! All the best to Graham and his team. Thank you for always making my visits to Gabardine so special.
I'm in love with this restaurant and so sad it's closing! The chicken pot pie and mac and cheese are honestly hands down the best I've ever had, and far better than I make myself
Good food & ambiance! The server seemed to not want to be there and we felt like they didn't even like us from the start. We liked the open-style kitchen and the food and drinks came pretty quickly. The server did come back to check on us twice, which we appreciated the follow-up.
Gods service provided overall. Food was delicious with large portion and price point reasonable.
The Gabardine's been an outstanding downtown comfort food bistro/brasserie for nearly a decade- truly sad they're having to close down. With any luck, once the owners and staff take time to relax, reassess, and plan, that they'll grace Toronto with another iteration of the restaurant. You'll be sorely missed.
My go-to spot for casual work lunches/meetings. Delicious food and a solid menu.
This was my third time there. My first 2 experiences were great and I recommended to go for dinner with my work colleagues and was very disappointed.
The presentation of the steak was subpar from what was before. The server was ‘ok’ at best.
The overall value $ to experience was less than desirable.
Very cozy inside with white lights strung across the ceiling. Open Kitchen so be prepared to smell a bit like what was cooking. It is also very warm inside.
Service was very good and food was delish!
Service was excellent and food was delicious.
The fabric on the bench chairs need attention!
We order two appetizers, two main dishes and a dessert. Everything was delightful and lives up to the restaurant’s claim of providing comfort food. Servers were in a bit of a rush to bill us out though so we had our drinks elsewhere.
Wonderful food and great service in an energetic setting. If you're looking for a casual dining experience in the Toronto's financial district, don't miss The Gabardine!
I have visited this restaurant many times in the past. Service was not good. We were left for an unreasonable amount of time with our menus. Server was not personable, no attempt to engage with us . First time my friend was there, don't think she will return as a result. Disappointed.
So sad to see this place closing! Best place in town!
Server was extremely rude
Awesome chicken pot pie and mac and cheese with ham. The pot pie is really creamy with loads of chicken. The ham on the mac and cheese was delicious and not dry. Our table ordered pot pies and the 3 of us split the mac and cheese. For dessert we had the sticky pudding which is light and very tasty. It's too bad that this treasure of a restaurant is closing on October 31.
We love the Gabardine for lunch dates. A real gem with incredible food. We will miss it when it’s gone October 31
My entire suit is stink after a business lunch. I can smell the greasy food on my clothes the whole aftenoon. Their vent are definitely not working very good.
My wife and I ate lunch at the Gabardine and enjoyed the experience. She had the Pot Pie and I had the Mac and Cheese and both dishes were very good.
Fish dip was excellent—and served with plenty of crackers (yay!). Loved the fish tacos, as well. Three servers waited on us. Tons of energy in the joint. Fun!!
Place was empty at 8:30 on a Tuesday night, and the server was clearly unhappy I was there. Blonde fellow, darker beard. Another customer entered shortly after me and asked if they were still open; his response? “We are closing the kitchen right after he orders”, thumbing over his shoulder at me. I was obviously an inconvenience.
I ordered the Katsu Porkchop. Generous size, but the fat of the chop tasted freezer burned. I actually had to spit it out. The rest of the chop was dry and overcooked. It came with sides. Perhaps my bad for not reading the menu properly, but if my server had being paying attention, he might have suggested something. He was too busy complaining about some “tip issue” at the counter. No bread, nothing to break the monotony of freezer burned gravy and chop. Once I had finished, and someone else had cleared my plate, I waited to see how long it would take to be offered desert or another glass of wine (which actually was pretty good). 20 minutes later I flagged down the other server for my bill. Sigh.
I rarely comment on my reviews, as anyone can have an off night, but this was a double whammy: bad service in an empty restaurant and bad food.
Food was great, but it took 50 minutes to get the food.
It was our first time. We both enjoyed our shared app (the fish dip) and our mains were delicious. We found it noisy as the place filled to capacity and the service was a bit curt. Could work on making the customers feel more welcomed.
The food was very tasty. As an appetizer-Recommend the Halifax Cheese Bread with Donair sauce. As meals, we had the chicken sandwich special and the BC rock fish dish. Thoroughly enjoyed both. Waiter provided great service and recommendations. Had a great dining experience.
Service is amazing!
We have been here a few times and generally love it. The service is exceptional and the staff extremely professional and friendly .
My meal was as good as normal but for some instance tonight my wife said her Macaroni and Cheese was very dry. She often raves to everyone about it. However it could have been an off night as we are all human. Our server was extremely gracious and offered a free dessert to compensate for my wife’s meal.
The restaurant was also very warm and that too was unusual.
We are not complainers by any means and will definitely be back as one so so night doesn’t spoil the few excellent meals we have had.
Thanks again for trying to make it right 👍🏻
We had a fantastic meal. The Korean cauliflower appetizer was perfect to share for 2--spicy, sweet and delicious. The katsu pork chop was beautifully cooked. My friend had a shrimp and grits special that she pronounced perfect. Portions were big. We could have shared one appetizer and one entree. Our waiter doubled as bartender, but he was still totally attentive. Great experience.
Great food as always. I always order the chicken pot pie. The atmosphere is very cozy.
Boring food. Crappy Chardonnay. Terse service. Better at McDonald's. Used to be good but deleted from contacts.
Amazing food and service - A little too loud, had to work really hard to try and hear my lunch date's voice across the small table.
Food is very good with great staff. It is very loud at peak times, however, so keep that in mind.
Great lunch spot. Food always good. Service spot on.
Food was nothing special and we had a particularly surely waitress who was brusk and rude for no apparent reason. I’d recommend going somewhere else that appreciates your business.
Our server was attentive and friendly. They were able to give educated recommendations from the food and wine menu. 10/10!
Comfy, quaint and good service. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
Service was great and the food was awesome. Best chicken club I’ve ever had. Couldn’t stop talking about it.
We were a little early for our reservation, which wasn't a issue, we were seated right away and ordered drinks. The menu has something for everyone. We ordered the Halifax Cheesy Bread which was delicious. We had the Fish Tacos which were really good, but the Macaroni and Cheese was the best we ever had. Don't tell your mother! The staff are very friendly. Will definitely be coming back when we return to Toronto.
Hip New York feel with cocktails and dark wood. My kind of place. I had the surprising lunch special of grilled octopus (very tender) on a Korean pancake. Perfect!
