We ordered the same halibut entre, my wife’s arrived but mine didn’t show up for another 10 minutes. After we finished eating, we were ignored. I took more than enough money to cover the total and handed it to the manager as we walked out.
Great variety of tasty options. He best restaurant in Los Olivia area.
I went here based upon the reviews I read. I left here very disappointed. We ordered their bread basket to start which was 2 pieces of sourdough cut in half with some garlic butter, not impressed at all. My wife ordered the scallops which she only got 3 pcs for $45. The following night we went to another restaurant in Solvang and they had 6 scallops for $35. Wa disappointed by the scallops. I ordered the chicken which was also small and came with a weird red pepper sauce. Never been to a restaurant with chicken with this sauce was very odd. The wine list was very pricey for being in wine country. Ordered one of the cheaper whites and not impressed by taste and how much it cost. Being still hungry gave desserts a chance. Last mistake. Tried someplace new for me in this area, will not be back or recommend this place. I was very disappointed by what I ordered and what I paid. Don’t waste your time
We had dined at The Gathering Table many times before, and it used to be a hidden gem that we recommended to our friends. And it is a 2.5 hour drive from our home, so it had to be worth the drive.
We were unaware until we sat down this time that the former chef/owner had sold the restaurant and there was a new menu. The food was standard upscale hotel fare and it was not bad. But compared to the prior menu, we were very disappointed. Also, the food was much more expensive than previously. (An entree of seared scallops was $50.)
All in all, I don’t think we will be returning. It was awesome that we got to experience the prior chef’s brilliance. But we will be searching for other gems in Santa Ynez.
The food was fabulous. I do think it is overpriced. Ambience was great also. Our waitress was really sweet with good service. All staff was really nice and welcoming. More vegetarian options would be appreciated.
This was our first time since the change of ownership. We knew the chef was the same, but some of our favorite items were gone. They no longer serve the sliders, the tempura cauliflower or the hamachi. We had a nice meal, but it was not special as it used to be. The server was super nice though!
Service excellent. Scallops delicious. Chocolate mousse wonderful. Expect Pricey
Our appetizer was brought at the same time as our meal. For us this was totally unacceptable, so we sent it back
New owners and chef.
Really miss the Asian touch it use to have!
Completely new menu unfortunately!
My salad was served 2 minutes before my entree was brought, so there was some timing issue.
The staff that served me were very nice. The server that brought my entree was not the server that took my order and served my salad. I am guessing there was a scheduling glitch that caused me entree to come out so fast. When the entree was served it was warm and to my requested doneness.
Excellent food. Great service. Wonderful ambience.
Menu infers gourmet experience, and the cuisine was wonderful. Service was a bit sketchy, not as polished as I was hoping, and ambiance was more casual than I expected. We were celebrating our Anniversary, had written the details on Open Table reservations, but the restaurant did not seem to know it was our Anniversary, which was kind of disappointing.
They appeared to be understaffed. The service seemed frantic and disorganized at times, and the food wasn't perfectly cooked. Overall, a very good experience that could have been great with a little better attention to detail.
Tickled, Delighted, and Happy! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the Gathering Table and will recommend it to locals and travelers alike.
The restaurant's in a hotel which was built to look like an old structure. They put a good amount of detail to make it feel old and charming. The dining room was cozy, in spite of a large party of about 20 that was occupying the center of the dining space. We asked for outdoor seating in our reservation, but were sat inside. The outside would've been romantic and lovely, however it was cold, so we didn't point out our request being ignored.
The host was friendly, seated us and said our server would be with us shortly. Nobody stopped by for 40 minutes, until the host noticed our water bottle was empty. He took our drink order and we asked for bread and butter. Another 8 minutes went by when our server finally showed up. She seemed a bit miffed when she asked if she could start us with drinks and we told her we'd ordered through the host shortly before. I'm sorry, but 48 minutes before seeing a server is unacceptable. We had to re-order our drinks, bread/butter, along with our starters and entrees. Again, she seemed annoyed that we had a complete order ready and weren't moving at her pace of starting with drinks and appetizers...but we were quite hungry by that point. And to be honest, we were put off that there was no apology or acknowledgement of our long wait. (By the way, our server was not tied up with the large party.)
Bread & butter basket: The 3 bread slices were small (the end of a loaf) but the flavored butters were delicious. We wished we'd ordered more bread for all the butter we had.
Tuna Tartare: Fabulous!!! Fresh, delicious and with plenty of avocado. Could've used more than 4 crisps with the amount of tuna served.
Lamb Chops/Polenta: The polenta may have been the creamiest ever. The lamb was succulent.
Seared Scallops/Maitake mushrooms: Seared perfectly and paired so nicely with the mushrooms and spinach.
Rockfish: Tasty, with great crispy skin. The red pepper coulis and sauce vierge, were pleasant, but two 'sauces' seemed a lot.
Wonderful dining experience with our toddler and dog on their comfortable heated patio
Everything was perfect. Food was amazing, good portions. Would be back again.
Terrific service, beautiful setting and fantastic food.
The menu is limited while they transition to new owners. We shared all the starters and all were delicious. The risotto was especially good. Our main dishes were tasty. The halibut in herb butter sauce was superb, but I did not care for the tomatoes and spicy peppers on top. The ice cream and sorbets were yummy and we especially liked the mandarin orange sorbet.
We were a little disappointed. We realize it is under new ownership (and that this is a transition period), and we made allowances for that. Its staff was nice, but unfamiliar with serving at this level. We poured our own wine and distributed our own utensils.
The food was fine, though not memorable or particularly well prepared.
Looking forward to a better experience as things settle in.
Our waiter George was so accommodating and nice and saw to all of our needs. The wines were excellent and the lamb Wellington, which I had never had, was extremely flavorful, as was their Caesar salad. The inn is tastefully decorated with fine furniture and objects knowledgeably placed and designed.
I hope the inn and dining room doesn’t change with the New Ownership from Los Angeles!
Sadly the long time chef has left and the restaurant will be closing soon for renovations. The wait staff is sweet but inexperienced
We went to the Gathering Table for our 25th anniversary. We were seated promptly as there were several empty tables. Our server promptly addressed us and immediately took our order. Unfortunately, the menu was nothing like the menu they have on their website. There were only three entrees, filet mignon, cod and duck breast. There were about six appetizers. Pre-meal bread was an option for an extra $3.
There were four servers in the small restaurant and eight tables filled with 2 and 4 guests. Since we did a day of wine tasting, we only ordered an entree course. I ordered the filet and my wife chose the squash risotto appetizer as her entree. We also got the bread for $3 and it was good with herb-infused butter, but isn't bread usually free in the United States?
Then, we waited and waited and waited. Our food was finally delivered 1 hour and 10 minutes after we sat down. There was no apology or even updates on the delay. By the time we received our food there was only three other tables remaining, so it wasn't like they were slammed. My filet was good in taste, but very small for a filet. It wasn't listed on the menu, but I would guess it was about 4 ozs. My wife's risotto, was OK, but pretty bland.
We found out after the meal that ownership abruptly changed and several staff members quit. They were having problems and only taking limited reservations. According to the hotel front desk clerk, they've pared their menu down to make it simpler for staff. However, their website still has the complete menu.
Based on our experience, I would not recommend this restaurant until the new ownership can prove they can live up to the great reviews from the past.
Had a reservation for weeks at what was supposed to be one of the best places around. We got there and discovered the place was sold the day prior, carpet removed, chef gone, table cloths gone, menu reduced, staff untrained. Why did the new owners not call and explain that our dinner wasn’t to be what we anticipated. Fill in staff tried and food was ok, but not what we expected nor the quality experience… bad ownership showing they don’t care about their customers much.
Unfortunately it seems the chef left and it was new chef with extremely limited menu
Didn’t know that the owners switched as of 9/22/21 - food still great but tiny menu … things will be better in the future I’m sure
For $36 dollars the flank steak was meager and disappointing. $36 dollars is a lot of money to pay for 6 pieces of beef the size of a quarter.
And the peppers appetizer was delicious but overpriced at $14.00
Superb dinner - every single thing our party of four ordered. Lovely ambiance. Wonderful service.
Delicious food . Beautiful presentation.
Beautiful setting. Food great but a bit too salty. Beautiful evening experience.
Wonderful food and ambience. Excellent service. Will be back
We stayed at the Ballard Inn so eating here was easy.
They were very accommodating to our request to eat outside.
The food was very tasty.
Service was excellent.
I would go back!
top of my list when eating in the valley
Great place with great flavors.
If you are looking to pretend this is 2019 and Covid doesn't exist then this restaurant is for you!
Always always the best!!!!
The food is great. Serving sizes are a little small for the price but everything was delicious.
Our second time here and loved it again. A must dining experience if you are in Los Olivos/Solvang area.
Exquisite food, beautiful setting and fantastic service.
Every dish was over salted
