The Great Escape
Been there several times for functions, drinks, but this was the first time for dinner. Had a great time, food was amazing, and the service was excellent. Will be back.
I didn't dislike or like this establishment, it was a rather neutral experience. As a new resident to Schiller Park, it was an attempt to try a place that had fairly decent reviews, something popular. For me and my wife, it was an average experience, a place to eat and see what we thought. The vibe was a little dated, but whether it was intentional or not, I'm uncertain. The food was ok, but not especially memorable, nothing that stood out - it was ok. The demographic that I think might best enjoy this establishment, 60+yrs. It's not a knock, but an observation that, to those inclined, might appreciate the heads up.
More importantly, those whom I interacted with on the employee side of things....wonderful! It's a pleasant place, not fancy, pretty simple, but not for me. The thoughtfulness of that staff was the part I appreciated. Thanks for that!
Most everything was good except the Mahi-mahi was a little over cooked.
The Salmon special was very good.
The waitress was slow and not very attentive.
She did not have a great personality and took too long to refill coffee and didn’t ask if we wanted dessert.
The beignets were very good but not enough powder sugar on them.
I am annoyed that I have to keep calling Open Table to post my points. I have always agreed to have the points automatically posted and every third time or so I have to call customer service to have them physically post the points. What is wrong with this system?
Great neighborhood restaurant. Casual. Great menu selections. Always good service.
A great neighborhood restaurant with excellent ambience, an historic bar, and comfortable, quiet seating. The food is very good and the wait staff, from the front desk to those attending to tables, is outstanding. This is a little gem with a great neighborhood feel.
My team attended a conference in Rosemont. We were able to go out for dinner. We had different dietary needs. This is a great restaurant if you have different dietary needs, want to talk, eat great food and learn a little history. This restaurant is a historic building and it was fun learning about it. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Excellent tasting meal, great choices on menu , & definitely huge servings.
We were looking for some place a little different. The Great Escape was it. The service was outstanding. The food very good and very reasonable. I would definitely go there again if I was in the area.
Great food and a good menu choices. Can't go wrong
3 of 4 dinners came out cold and and when we talked to the waitress she apologized and had the kitchen heat them but no better. The manager came over to tell us that they have been in business for 27 yrs. Good for them but we will not return.
Always good food and great service. Everyone is always pleasant and accommodating.
Terrific and really a surprise as we don't get this way EVER! But now we wish we did as food was terrific. Reminds me of several restaurants that have gone the way of the bull dozer and that we still miss. Glad that at least there is one left.
Very consistent Quality. A staple in the community.
Good food and good service. Glad we came.
Wish I could post a glowing report like the others listed here but tonight was bad. The only redeeming factor? The Bruschetta appetizer. Service was extremely slow and the “prime” rib turned out to be a rump roast of some sort. Tough and dry and it took one hour to get it. I immediately sent it back in exchange for the chicken. This used to be our “go to” restaurant for a great meal but the past three times have been a major disappointment. I actually felt sorry for the owner tonight. His kitchen needs a complete overhaul as far as cooks are concerned. Food lacks flavor and allot of times poor quality. Gordon Ramsey would have a brain hemorrhage trying to rectify The Great Escape.
We always have a great time and the food is great. They have great service and staff!
The food was great. Recommend the chicken pot pie. Very god service.
The Chicken Pot Pie is absolutely delicious! You will be amazed at the presentation!
Nice comfortable neighborhood place to enjoy a cocktail and dinner with friends
BBQ Ribs are one of the best and the boasted chicken is great. Drinks are very tasty and the service is outstanding especially "Karen". She has the special touch in making your time wonderful. Prices are fair and the owner comes around and ask you about your meal. Free parking, Enjoy,
This restaurant never disappoints. Great food and service as always!
Good food and always consistently good. Prices are getting a little bit higher for the portion size. Otherwise no complaints.
Love the history, feel and food.
We have always had good experience at Great Escape
Great food. The wait staff are excellent and attentive. Good price for their House wine. Myself, my wife and a friend went twice in two evenings. Had the broasted chicken first night and the chicken pot pie the second. Would recommend both.
Been there multiple times now. Such great food. Lovely place for special occasions and date nights out.
Stuffed mushrooms were very good. Roast duck was okay - breast meat a little over cooked. Happens often when serving 1/2 duck.
My friends and I had a very nice time at the Great Escape, 3 of them were first time guests. They enjoyed the food very much and plan on returning.
Food was very good as was the service. Visit there often and try different entrees. Never have had a bad meal.
Good "old-time" restaurant - Nothing fancy, good home cooked food. I think they really know how to do a steak. Good portions.
The service appears like we were a bother, needs to smile more and make you feel welcome.
Excellent service, Great Ribs, great atmosphere, waitress was very pleasant and not intrusive at all. Highly recommend Great Escape for a wonderful
We chose the Great Escape because it was close to our hotel and we wanted a good sit-down meal in a relaxing environment. The restaurant wasn't busy at 7 PM on a Sunday evening, but unfortunately we had a table of folks nearby who had a very elderly lady with them who evidently was hard-of-hearing, so the speech levels were extremely high and rather intrusive into our dinner conversation.
That said, our meals were delicious, and our service was excellent. I enjoyed the historic building and reading about its history in the menu, as well as the information about the windmill. Neither of us thought the lobster/crab bisque soup was worth the $3 upgrade, but we did enjoy all of our food. I especially enjoyed my filet with shrimp--both cooked perfectly!
We live out of town, but we are going to recommend this place to our Chicago friends. It was a lovely meal, and a nice environment.
Another wonderful get together at the great escape . The food and the service is always great and never disappoints that is one of the reasons we always come back .
Service and food are the best.
I prefer to eat at local family owned it restaurants as opposed to chains and this restaurant did not disappoint . I chose it based on proximity to our hotel and couldn't be happier. Staff was very friendly, service was impeccable and the food was delicious. The waitress took time to share a bit of history and stories about the restaurant.
Disappointing. We go there all the time and we brag about this restaurant all the time. This time the restaurant was way, way over crowded. You couldn’t move without banging into one another. They ran out of clam chowder soup at 6:30 and the food was disappointing. Will go there again but never a Saturday
it was very cold at the table we where sitting at steady breeze blowing on us from ceiling vent
One of the best ribs and chicken combo, you can't miss at this place. Drinks are large and priced right. Enjoy.
