The Hog's Breath Inn - Carmel
Great service and atmosphere! Food was the best.
We felt unwelcome and neglected
I have to say we were really looking forward to our dinner there. Unfortunately, our expectations were higher than reality. There was one diner who was so loud that we couldn't hear our own conversation. We moved to a separate dining room so we could eat in peace. The food was good, not great. It's very expensive for what you get and although I'm glad I went, it's a one and done for me.
Always a good place to relax
Our pork chops were overcooked and tough to eat. We ordered them medium rare. Disappointing meal.
Exelente great food and Awesome actitudes Of the personal
Ugh, another restaurant in Carmel that gets rave reviews but does not deliver. Are people giving places like this 4 star reviews for real? Are they so charmed by the setting that they completely overlook the food? My Caesar salad was less than mediocre. The dressing was NOT Caesar. It tasted like mayonnaise. My date’s salad came in a greasy tortilla shell & his “ranch” dressing tasted exactly like mine - mayonnaise-y.
Nice small er place. seemed kind of dungeonish but overall nice. Steak was good, moderately priced at $44. staff were good. We'ld eat there again if Carmel. Clint Eastwood doesnt own it anylonger but they have his pictures up on the walls.
Service was great but my medium rare filet was closer to medium well
We eat here every time we come to this area .. Its really great to enjoy nice food in a familiar setting . Too often these days , places you have enjoyed in the past simply vanish off the map ,leaving just a memory . Super glad things are still good at the Inn.. I had the Dirty Harry Special .. nice New York steak with a unique mushroom sauce nicely peppered . My better half had the ribs .... all delicious ..
Food and service were great. It was very cold inside unfortunately and the kitchen door swung open and closed continuously which was annoying.
Really cute atmosphere! Food was ok not great. I had pasta and my fiancé had the BB ribs. He did not like the ribs. I thought the pasta was delicious! We were there Jan 1 so it was quiet.
The food and venue were great! The checking person was kind of rude when we asked to sit outside. Then the waitress was very slow we had to ask for things multiple times.
Enjoyed our meal very much - great service too. The restaurant itself is pretty small and perhaps a little outdated in terms of decor, but it's quite an enjoyable experience!
Staff was friendly. We were seated inside near the fireplace and were told it would be lit in a minute. We ordered a cup of soup, entrees and drinks.
The fireplace was never lit. The server did not return to our table for a long time after bringing our entrees. We reminded him about our soup order and we nearly finished our entree before it came.
Great food and drinks!!!! Love the atmosphere ♥️
Great experience- are under the stars and heat lamps. Ribs were so tender and dungenous crab cakes were delicious!!
A good alternative if the restaurant of your choice is completely booked. While the service was very good the food is decent but not outstanding. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor options. We were told you needed reservations to get an indoor seat. Fortunately with OpenTable we were able to make last minute reservations and were seated inside. The patio is heated but can be cool if there is a breeze or dampness.
Had lunch on Monday and dinner tonight both meals were great ! Had the Wedge salad both days Calamari Steak sandwich on Monday and Lamb chops for dinner on Tuesday, service was excellent both days , The decor whether you are inside or in the courtyard is very charming
My sister and I shared crispy calamari and ahi tuna poke for appetizer then the Hog’s Baby Back Ribs for entree. The calamari was crispy and cooked perfectly. The Ahi Tuna Poke has more edamame and cucumber than tuna. It was also a bit too sweet for our taste. The baby back ribs lacked flavor.
Nice outdoor patio dining area. Inside could use some updating especially the music selections.
Came back after first visit years ago. Was better this time. Brought 7 other first timers. We had a ball. Great food, great staff. Thanks to all.
My apologize for my honest review. Based upon dining in Carmel for over twenty years and having read the history about who owns and runs the restaurant I expected a different experience. As I chose from the selected stars, everything about The Hog’s Breath Inn was fair.
The food was excellent. Service was fine. Outdoor patio with several fireplaces was really lovely, but not for Open Table reservations, although it was offered to us - we chose to eat inside. Although no longer an owner the restaurant is full of Clint Eastwood photos and movie posters. I’m not a fan so that did nothing for me. It might even be better without it.
Absolutely loved everything about this restaurant. Food, service, atmosphere. Will definitely return next time in the area.
This restaurant has good ambiance but the food was too expensive for the quality.
Cool patio with Clint Eastwood pictures everywhere. Food and drinks were good.
Surly, over worked server, slow service, mushy tomatoes, overpriced meal. This restaurant seems to do well because of it's iconic status, not the quality of the meal provided or the service level. We arrived on time for our 7:00 PM reservation and were seated immediately in the outdoor courtyard. We waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged by our surly server, and an additional 10 minutes to receive glasses of water after multiple requests. Our dinner order was taken almost 30 minutes after arrival. This is a pub style restaurant, not one for long dinners. Our total time there was 2 hours. The Caprese salad, with "fresh" tomatoes, avocado, & mozzarella cheese should have been a show stopper. Instead, the tomato (this is tomato season), which should have been the star of the dish, was mushy and lacked flavor. It was a complete disappointment. Other items on the menu were more to the diners liking. We even had difficulty getting a dessert menu and ordering a dessert! Take your patience and wallet if you decide to dine here.
Food was average and pricy. I will not be going back again
I booked a table online of 7 to celebrate our elopement but wasn’t able to reserve an outside table, it had to be inside. The day before the meal I visited the restaurant to reserve an outside table and was told that a note would be added to my reservation and that we would be looked after as it was for a special occasion.
That absolutely didn’t happen, an inside table had been reserved for us. The waitress was not happy that I asked for us to be reseated outside and that took some organising so we had to wait at the bar. When we were finally seated it took ages to place our food order, when that eventually arrived it came in intervals so we couldn’t eat together and really wasn’t that great; we ordered steaks and couldn’t tell which was medium and which was rare....
Ordering drinks was a joke, we had to catch staff as they hurried past if we could. We were not made to feel welcome and we’re rushed out of the door as quickly as possible. Clearly the staff were eager to go home. We we’re not looked after in any way at all and found the entire experience lacking and utterly disappointing. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Carmel I wish I had chosen somewhere else.
Brought 10 people to dinner. The service was great and the food was fantastic. A must visit.
Great atmosphere - fantastic food - great way to entertain clients - would recommend for client dinners, friends getting together or whatever the occasion.
This place is outstanding, food, service and atmosphere are spectacular. We’ll definitely be going back.
The food is terrible. My wife's pork chop not only was NOT a double cut, as stated on the menu, but it also had the consistency of a wood block. I had the bbq baby back ribs. They were baked in an oven then slathered with ketchup-like sauce. If this place was cheap, it would almost be understandable but it's not. We sent our food back. They're obviously not serious about the restaurant part of this business. This is a drinking establishment only. I can't see this place staying open too much longer without serious changes. There are too many other excellent dining choices in Carmel to waste your time and money here.
Totally cool and unique venue with excellent steak and the like. I'd recommend it!
Good food all around though the facilities are getting a bit long in the tooth. Some updates are definitely needed. We’ll happily visit again.
Dog friendly patio and the BEST bacon bloody marys
Food was OK, nothing outstanding. Service was very good. Thought ambiance was poor and down scale. Lived here since 1962, I remember the old Hog's Breath Days...
First timers, definitely will be back!
