The Ivy on the Square
Meet a colleague for a breakfast meeting.
Nice relaxed atmosphere and good service.
I had the eggs Royale which was really good.
Great service as always from The Ivy, must say our regular Harrogate will always be the number one. However, they were very attentive and helped celebrate a birthday lunch as we just arrived in Edinburgh!
We had a lovely lunch with good food and pleasant service. Only criticism is the overwhelming floral air freshener in the ladies. Very cloying and sits at the back of the throat
Don’t get me wrong, what we had to eat was lovely and service was great.
However I’d booked for 1130 on a Sunday expecting to be offered the breakfast menu, but although it runs till 1130 during the week it’s only till 1100 at the weekend. This seems a bit backward to me and was a bit disappointing.
Food was average and wine v expensive and service charge added at just under 14% not only on the food but the wine as well. Waitress quite rude when she realised that we only paid 10% (the norm) on the food only!
Wouldn’t go back and would not recommend!
Lovely meal with suberb service. We sat upstairs which offered a great view of the square. Will definitely be back the next time we are in Edinburgh.
Menu very poor, very limited. Starters are the majority seafood.
The cost of steak is worth it however no sides is disappointing giving the cost of it.
Fantastic food. Great location. Wonderful service. Highly recommend.
Very over priced for what you get and starters were cold and had to be returned. Not good for the price you pay
This lunch was a get-together with former colleagues (there were four of us). It was difficult to hear each other as the music level was just a bit too loud. Also, it was not relaxing music, so we weren't able to enjoy the food, which was very good. Re food - one of the dishes could have done with more vegetables / carbohydrate option (e.g. rice, noodle or potato). You should not have to add sides to get these, unless you have a very big appetite. I'm not sure we will be back.
Service was outstanding, food was tasty and the drinks were delicious. There were five of us and the staff was incredibly accommodating.
We went for breakfast which was outstanding... I mentioned to the waitress that it was my birthday. After we had eaten she bought over a cream pastry with a candle in it! Such a nice touch 😊
Amazing night out with friends. The staff were amazing the food was superb what more do you need.
Lovely from beginning to end. Our waiter was lovely and attentive without being intrusive. The food was delicious and not rushed. The surroundings were pleasant. Just a lovely time. It was my parents 65th anniversary and a super memory ...thank you Ivy 💖
We visited The Ivy for my wife’s birthday and everything from the welcome to the food, service and ambiance was perfect. We will certainly return and have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant.
Reliable good, never had a poor meal here. Really good and friendly service. The prawn and squid tempura and the melting chocolate pudding were out favourites.
Beautiful venue. Attentive staff. Cocktails were great
We went to the ivy for my sisters birthday! The food was lovely. Staff very friendly They bought out a little dessert with a candle in it without me asking which was lovely gesture. Would happily return :)
Fantastic food and service. A little bit expensive though.
Relaxed atmosphere, food was delicious. Staff were courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. Couldn’t fault The Ivy.
I ordered Sirloin steak, was served Fillet
Ordered Decaf coffee ( I'm allergic to caffeine ) was served caffeine I was ill for a day.
Great location and food! Service was impeccable. I would definitely return.
Excellent food and good quality of service, however service can be rather slow at times.
Not what I expected from The Ivy and not a patch on Manchester one. No one took our coats off us so I had to sit with them next to me. Food wasn’t great, husbands steak should have been cooked Med and was well done and my chicken was very dry.
A lovely space with good service. Ordinary food at fine dining prices.
Starters came quickly and tasted good. Mains arrived, one was wrong so was sent back. Meant my girlfriend was eating on her own for 5 mins, when my meal cane egg was undercooked as it had been rushed, but I didn’t want to wait any longer. Offered comp beer. Dessert was great. At the end the comp beer had been kept on the bill so had to have it taken off. I had put that it was my girlfriends birthday on booking notes but nothing was done, I was hoping that this was at least acknowledged, would have made the date that much more special. Overall small issues but still left disappointed.
The Ivy is always great food and a lovely time. The team are so lovely - I’ll be back for sure.
Fabulous! From the food to the service, the ambience, style, presentation - faultless! Looking forward to returning.
Went to the Ivy for brunch with friends. The service and ambience was fantastic. The food was really lovely, with the only downside being that it was a little cold. However, the waiter and the manager dealt with this extremely well and I would not hesitate to go back. Hopefully will be a 5 star review next time.
Service was shocking, had to call on multiple waiters for service and ignored throughout most of the meal. food was average at best.
Having been several times and used several restaurants in the group this was our first occasion of having poor service. The waitress asked for our drinks order, we ordered the wine at the same time as our meal and then had to ask twice for the wine to the table as the starters had arrived. Same with dessert and coffee we asked for coffee with dessert and again a no show.
Brilliant Sunday lunch, food was amazing. Atmosphere also very nice and waiters friendly.
Lovely atmosphere and great service but expensive considering the food is just ok
We booked lunch for four on Sunday 16th February - The reception was good, immediate attention and escorted to a very nice table overlooking the square - The service was good, we were given a reasonable time to choose our food and drink and these were delivered in good time - The starters we chose were well presented and value for money, but two of us chose Shepherds Pie and quite frankly, you could have stuck it in your eye - Very poor value - The desserts were very good and the Cheese Board was very good value for money and could easily have be shared. Would we go back again - Probably not
Terrible service, rude waitress
Really enjoyed our food, the staff were great and a really relaxed atmosphere. We can't wait to go back with my misses.
My partners sirloin steak was overdone and waited 25 mins on replacement and no side order replaced of spinach which he was charged for ,he had to eat alone after our party had eaten .
They did give us a round of complimentary drinks but as there was no more sirloin he had a replacement fillet and charged an extra £5 !
I also had ordered sirloin but had run out so had fillet and was also charged an extra £5
This is not acceptable to us and being our first visit has put us off revisiting
The rest of the food was very good though
A booking for a 21st birthday meal which exceeded our expectations. The ambience, food and service was amazing. We all had different main dishes, all of which were superb and we would eat again. There was so much choice on the menu it’s hard to select. Desserts were equally to die for!
Can’t wait to return!
Food was delicious, atmosphere was lovely. The service was on another level! They also brought out a little cake with a candle on it for my boyfriends birthday 🎂.
Great service. We booked as part of a 30th birthday celebration and loved it. We were met at the front door by 2 lovely women who ensured we had the best table available. They took our jackets from us to the cloakroom. The food was great. The service was fast and flowing with our glasses never being left sat empty. All the staff were friendly and helpful.
By far one of the best dinning experiences I’ve had. Would highly recommended and will be back in the future.
