The New London Restaurant and Lounge
Top-Etiketten:
Service was slow, and roast potatoes where cold, more attention needed to customers needs, overall could do better
Perfect venue to take clients for lunch. All commented on how lovely the food and wine were.
Lovely décor and fantastic choice off the menu.
Our first visit was on a Tuesday lunchtime so obviously very quiet. Menu was excellent and lots to tickle our tastebuds. Presentation and quality/taste of food was excellent too. Service (from Andy) was very friendly. Will definitely visit again.
My 4th visit and as previously, food excellent and imaginative, staff and ambience 1st class
Can’t wait for my 5th
Lovely staff, good menu, lovely setting. Will return for a third time
We all had a great brunch with delicious food and Prosecco!
Excellent food as always, even a picky eater like me can find something delicious on their smallish menu. Portions are perfect sizes to not over face but leave you pleasantly full
Starters were lovely. Great flavours and smart presentation. Bit of a wait for the main, but we weren’t in a rush and the place had filled up. Perhaps we were forgotten as the table next to us seemed to zoom through their courses but didn’t matter as we had lots to chat about with our friends. Dessert again very nice combinations. Was our first time here and will certainly return to try a non-Sunday menu. Oh the biggest most impressive part - when meals were delivered the wait staff did nit ‘raffle them off’ they knew exactly who had ordered what and yahoooo for that!! It’s a personal bug-bear of mine and I’d go back JUST for that feature!!
first time at New London will definately be back, Service and food were excellent
The restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous. Located not too far from the town centre, only a five minute walk which is perfect. We had the lunch set menu. Really reasonable wine and cocktail prices too. We started off with some bread, charged at £3.95 or something of similar price. Usually in a top end restaurant, bread and butter are offered free of charge. The bread was not fresh and more on the stale side (or baked for too long) and the butter was rock hard which was a shame. I ordered the Jerusalem artichoke risotto for starters - it was amazing. The presentation was really nice and overall really tasty. And I also ordered the chicken. The portion of chicken was generous and overall a tasty plate of food. But the pumpkin was sliced into big long chunks - didn't really add much to the dish for me. Beautiful cabbage and bacon lardons which were nice and crispy. Overall, excellent value for money on the set menu. I would definitely recommend to friends for the lunch set menu. I don't think I would pay dinner prices for those dishes. The service was amazing and he was super helpful despite having a rowdy table to serve also.
Food was excellent. Lovely decoration and very good service
Haven’t been to this restaurant before but will definitely be going again. Lovely meal
No trouble getting a table at short notice on a Thurs night. Lighting is minimal - bring a torch if you haven't checked what you want to eat beforehand. Had to ask the waiter for the set menu, which is good value. The food - fillet steaks - was great, if a little oversalted.
We spend a lot of time in France, where it is de rigueur to put a carafe of water and a basket of bread on the table as soon as you are installed. I really object to have to pay over £3 for bread and oil (which I don't really want) at every upmarket restaurant in the UK. So I don't pay, and the experience gets off to a poor start. How much unbought bread is thrown away each day?
Exquisite food, friendly staff, great value for money. The only thing missing is the atmosphere which is such a great shame and everything else is faultless
Simply the best restaurant in Chelmsford. Original dishes at sensible prices.
Amazing time and lovely food!
Been here few times before..
Maitre ‘d is so friendly and attentive..
Outstanding customer service.
Will keep coming back again and again..
The New London was amazing as always yesterday. The food was great, the Prosecco kept coming. It was noisy but there were two large groups in so it’s to be expected. I’ll be back!
Once again amazing food, great service and a lovely setting.
So much to love about this place - nice setting, location out the way from a crowded Chelmsford city centre of mostly chain restaurants and good food offerings.
Unfortunately let down by unattentive service. Empty glasses had to get waiters attention to order more drinks and ask for the bill. Understand a slow relaxed dining style but this was sub-par.
Food sounded good on the menu but execution not quite there. Roasted duck breast was dry.....maybe a drink would have helped but my glass was empty!
An excellent restaurant for that special occasion. Meets the old cliche....."You get what you pay for. ..."
We both really enjoyed our meals but we had lumps in our mashed potatoes with our meal and at this level and price is disappointing but overall enjoyable meal.
Menu was fabulous in my opinion, very modern and beautifully presented, very nouveau cuisine, so a few sides are needed. Problem with some establishments with modern interiors is the noise level, we could hear ourselves speak. I would definitely return as I thought the food was superior to a lot of restaurants I’ve eaten in the Chelmsford area and afar.
Some dishes across our table were very good but other flavours combinations just didn’t work if I’m honest. It really feels like this restaurant is trying to be something it’s not, high end charging London prices. There was a considerable wait for both starters and our main courses and the waitress forgot our drinks on two occasions. I’d read good reviews but think it’s overrated.
Food and service were excellent - staff very friendly and helful
Another fine dining experience at the New London, always a treat, spoilt for choice on the menu, and sublime service and surroundings. Definitely recommend, never fails to disappoint. Support this independent restaurant, we are so lucky to have it in our city!
Went to celebrate our wedding anniversary with friends. First Visit. Very impressed with decor and layout. Staff very professional and attentive. Food excellent apart from 2 small things. One sauce on a fish dish had wasabi in it but not listed as so on the menu which wasn't to my friends liking and the strawberry millifeuille would have benefitted from a few more strawberries. These two small things aside a lovely evening, will definitely be back and will be recommending the restaurant.
Top restaurant amazing food
Lovely food in a calm atmosphere. We can never manage 3 courses but did manage 2 this time. The roast chicken was lovely and moist and the poached peach dessert was totally yummy.
Thank Open table for recommending x
Excellent place
Had a lovely anniversary meal at The New London food was so tasty, the fillet steak was probably the best I ever had so tender and amazing flavour.
This place is simply class, great atmosphere great service and wonderful food. A must try in our opinion.
Lovely celebration Sunday lunch, thank you so much. We thorough enjoyed ourselves
Fantastic as always. Tried the set menu for the first time which exceeded our expectations
I have been twice previously to this restaurant but have not been for about 6 months. Food was even better than I remembered, amazing and with great service....I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone
Superb meal and wonderful wine in what is the best restaurant I've eaten in outside of London. Highly recommended.
There isn't another restaurant in Chelmsford that gets near to The New London's menu for choice of starters, main and desserts. The menu changes regularly so you've got to keep going back to try the new options.
The service is always brilliant and very welcoming
I can't recommend The New London highly enough.
Lovely evening. Great menu and the food was delicious. Service was wonderful and we will return.
Our best dining experience foe a long time. Everything from beginning to end was brilliant.
Greeting, service, food, staff, ambiance and value for money. The tomato and pepper soup, fillet
steak and the roast duck were perfect and a large wine list.
Excellent service excellent food
This is the best restaurant in Chelmsford!!!! The food is original, seasonal and delicious!!!! The service is incredible!!! So professional and lovely!!!! Great venue!!!! If you want somewhere that isn’t a depressing change restaurant, somewhere that is original with a touch of class then look no further than the New London.
