The Plough Great Chesterford
Really nice venue and hope that things pick up again, as was quiet due to Covid 19. Food and staff were lovely...only gripe was that they disappeared towards the end of meal, and we had to go to the bar to get someone to take the desert order and bring us the bill.
Impressed that when anyone moved from a table the table and chairs were thoroughly cleaned. The meal itself could have been hotter, although tasty
Lovely country pub service and food good, nice and relaxing
Pet friendly which is great
Will use again
A really enjoyable Sunday Lunch unfortunately the day we went they were short staffed due to illness and did not have all the items on the menu. However, they made every effort to maintain the highest of standards given the issues they had.
Lovely Sunday lunch, great service in a relaxed atmosphere
Super food, super service and wonderful country pub. Thank you for a fantastic post-Christmas meal!
Service a little slow but very attentive. They were fully booked for lunch on the Saturday before Xmas so I guess you would expect it to be slower than usual. Will definitely go back again soon.
Lovely food, the staff and management were excellent and very welcoming. The pub dog Oscar came and sought my children out for strokes and they loved it!
Lovely service atmosphere and people thank you so much
Good food, friendly staff and a GORGEOUS dog! Definitely will be going back
The Plough is half way between our friends and us and we meet up there every 6/8 weeks. The food is good, the service excellent and it is good value too. We would recommend The Plough to one and all!
Comfortable surroundings, Excellent service, great food. Will visit again.
Perfect Sunday lunch with the family.
Roast beef was great. Two large slices of Beef and generous helpings of veggies.
I will definitely book again.
We booked this with no prior knowledge. Loved it . Definitely recommend and not far from main road North or South.
Lovely traditional pub. Staff very welcoming & friendly. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time for our main courses.
This is a very nice pub in a lovely village. We had a Sunday lunch, so roasts were the order of the day and it was pleasing that there was also a roast option for kids. The roast beef was good, but not as pink as we were told it would be, all the other stuff was good though. There was an excellent - even outstanding - sticky toffee pudding on the dessert menu - but it was the largest portion you are every likely to see. One portion defeated four adults! Good job we didn't order more than one. Maybe the farmers around there would polish it off no problem, but not us I'm afraid. Maybe we caught the chef on an off day with the roast - it won't put us off coming again, and indeed we would love to. The service was outstanding, friendly, attentive and efficient. The pub has a very nice ambience, with nice contemporary decor sitting well alongside more traditional features. All in all, our party of 7 had a great time and I would recommend it to others.
Great food with excellent service and a superb host. We meet friends there every 6 weeks or so as it is halfway between our respective homes and we couldn't be more pleased with our choice of venue. We will be going back on a regular basis.
A lovely meal, sat outside in the warm bank holiday weather. Our host was polite and very attentive. The Monday evening fish n chip menu was great!
Steak and Ale pie was excellent, also the haddock and chips. Will definitely be going back.
A lovely pub, had a great Sunday Lunch. Very good service, good choice of food & drink, available inside or outside in the lovely garden.
I might recommend this for a regular night...it's a nice spot and the people are friendly (and there is Oscar, a great dog!). The food was very blah on fish and chips night, and not much selection. Perhaps on a regular night it would be better. Fair to average.
Hello and thank you for visiting the Plough. Because we have such an extensive menu the rest of the week and only use fresh ingredients things are quite labour intensive for the chefs who, as you can understand, cannot work 7 days per week. We were originally going to follow the lead of many other pubs in the area and not open Monday evenings but we got too much flack from the locals! Having a limited menu based around a fish and chip shop style seems a good compromise.
Great food, the staff were very accommodating in that we were given a quiet side room due to a large function going on which wasn't a problem. Will certainly be back and bringing colleagues/friends with me.
Poor meal for 1 of the 4 in our party. The fish batter was uncooked inside and soft on the outside. I could only eat the chips and did mention this when plates were collected. The Eton mess was awful, it was really thick whipped cream with little fruit of meringue.
Will not return to The Plough.
Amazing service lovely people and the food is out of this world
Unfortunately two of our party were held up and arrived an hour late. Luckily for us, however, the pub and restaurant were quiet so our table was held for us and while we waited we were made to feel very welcome. Our meal was very good. Two of us had the fillet of river trout which was on the specials menu and was excellent. Because we were running late the pub was closing before we had finished our meal. However we were not rushed at all and told to take our time. Would definitely go there again if we were in the area.
Great pub with the added bonus of two Alpacas in the gardens!
Good sized car park
Lots of outdoor seating areas
Very friendly staff
Great team and friendly service. They were a little overwhelmed with how busy they were on the night but clearly trying their best and got there in the end....
Big fan of Greene King Pubs, but have to say this wasn't a great experience. The roast was below average, vegetables over cooked, potatoes soggy and a couple of us asked for Medium Rare and got it well done.
The lady who served us and the staff were lovely but it just wasn't great food. I would have said something but didn't want to put a dampener on my Dad's Father's day lunch.
I can't say I would recommend the food as it lacked considerably. Staff were great, beer is good they also have Alpacas....or Llamas..I don't know which but they had them in the garden.
Service staff lacked direction and focus. Booked table for 7, arrived then and after being told kitchen to busy for us to order promptly, eventually got starter at 8pm. Main meal arrived in timely manner. Later offered dessert menu, but no one came to get order. Eventually we went to bar. Then no one checked to see if we wanted anything else or came near us, so we again had to go to bar to pay. We thought the meal at over 3 hours too long. They missed out on repeat drinks orders as well.
The food was very good, menu well thought through. Liked the setting and ease of parking.
Great food and great service. It was really quiet the night that we went but that is unusual. I would definitely recommend this place.
Despite a power cut, there was service with a smile and very dog friendly
Very friendly and dog friendly. Treats and water for the dog. Good service all round.
A great relaxed family, dog friendly pub and restaurant. The staff and owners very friendly, Lots of space outside to sit, with a great grass area for children to play
Slightly limited menu for veggies - starters and puds delicious, mains a bit less imaginative. Very friendly pub style service.
Our party of 6 was originally booked for dinner, bed and breakfast at another pub/ restaurant, but were notified, by the booking company that it had been cancelled, short notice.
Luckily we found accommodation, at short notice, at the Crown House Hotel, who recommended The Plough for dinner.
Well, we were so well looked after by Sam and her staff, the food was excellent and the pub / restaurant is really comfortable and welcoming. We would definitely recommend it, and will definitely be going back.
Thank you, Sam
Staff off hand foods very average Broken bought in our Chicken ie & chips covered in dark brown gravy
Burnt Venison burger
Should advertise that it's a Green King Pub!!
Good food but quite a few items were off the menu. Didn’t spoil the meal so will return
Chairs were a bit worn. Very friendly welcome, and excellent service continued throughout. The locally shot pigeon for starters was excellent and the sorbets at the end were delicious. Will go again
Meet up here with friends at what is a clean friendly location. Good choice of food and drinks. Hard working and attentive staff with plenty of car parking places in nice grounds.
I can't recommend The Plough sadly. It's a lovely old traditional country building, exposed beams and fireplaces, but there the good news ends. Ambiance and vibe were entirely lacking, service was friendly but poor (they had run out of most wines on the wine list), and the food (we all had the house burger or house pie as the menu was otherwise uninspiring) was distinctly below average. All too typical of country pubs these days, and if you are used to good food at home or London restaurants this is just not good enough.
Sir, I feel I must respond to your review. I am Simon the owner and it was I that served you on Saturday. Indeed after a very busy Friday we had run out of some of our premium wines, that is true but I must point out to people reading this that you stayed for over 3 hours, all your plates came back empty and your wife and your Australian friend both commented on how much they "loved" the food. I certainly don't expect to get 5 stars every time but I do think 1 star is a bit harsh.
First visit as half way between friends in London and us in Norwich. Good food and service with no rush even though they were hosting a wake at the same time. Friendly welcome and good service. Would definitely recommend the pies!! Definitely on the list
