During such times of uncertainty what more could you ask for from one of the tastiest dining establishments in San Francisco?

Staff are extremely friendly, and based on the patrons seated 6 feet away from us, the restaurant has a strong following of local supporters who they know on a personal level.

As always, the food at The Progress is exceptional. My favorites of the July 4th lunch menu were the corn salad and open faced fried eggplant sandwich, which per the chef, was an homage to a dish he had eaten at one of his first jobs at a restaurant.

If you can help it, don't forget to order the State Bird Provision's Lilikoi Strawberry donut holes. To describing as addicting is an understatement.

My only recommendation would be to exchange the furniture for maybe sturdier tables and chairs.

Regardless, I love The Progress and would do outdoor socially distanced lunch there again and again and again.

We went with a group of six. Some SF foodies and some midwesterner non-foodies. Everyone thought it was great. This restaurant group just does a great job. Highly recommended.

Fantastic service, our lovely woman who waited on us saw that in the end i hadn’t really enjoyed my cocktail, even though everything else was wonderful and delicious, and took it off our final bill. All of the staff was delightful and warm, which all felt genuine and not a performance. Delicious small dishes and a yummy main plate of BBQ duck...think Peking duck by way of Bangkok. Followed by an amazing mini donut desert and a shot of peanut milk....only small critique has to do with the noise level which is mostly unavoidable.

Amazing food. Loved the family style approach with the dishes, and terrifically creative vegetable options. Their seafood dishes were also outstanding. Top notch service as well-great spot!

Very good food and service, and an attractive setting. Food combinations were unusual and tasty. Great wine selection, but we were happy we paid the $30 corkage fee for the excellent bottle we brought from home, because the house wine markups were excessive. A fun place to dine, with unique food. Good but not great value.

I really enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. Everything was solid, delicious and well executed. Service was appropriately attentive. I will definitely come again and I would like to try dining at their sister restaurant.

We had such a wonderful dinner at The Progress. The food was fabulous! I especially loved the ham and cheese roti and the duck. I requested a quieter table through OpenTable and they sat us in one of the upper areas, which was perfect - so often these days we go out to dinner and can barely hear each other speak, but this table was reasonably quiet. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and very understanding of a few different allergies. I loved that because they have you mark with a pencil what you want to order, he just crossed off what was not suitable - a lot easier than trying to remember dish by dish. Overall, a really wonderful experience, and the overall bill seemed quite reasonable given the quality/quantify of the food and drink we had. I think we will be back!

Food was excellent quality. Didn’t abide by servers recommendation that we order 5 to 6 dishes per person. Literally told we were not ordering enough food. Glad we didn’t succumb to server peer pressure. Clearly could have ordered more later if we felt it wasn’t enough. So stuffed that we couldn’t fit dessert. Shared everything as suggested. First small courses delivered at a very nice pace. ... one at a time allowing us to savor them. Were told everything would be nicely paced. Not so. Wish both entrees hadn’t come out minutes apart as these were the largest dishes and the flavors were so distinctly different that I didn’t want to mix them on my plate. Sadly, the 2nd entree, a delicious black bass in a broth, was a bit cold because of that. Felt rushed even though by the time we received the entrees the restaurant was starting to clear out. Noticeable disappointment noted when server snatched our dessert menus off the table when we said we wouldn’t partake in dessert that evening. Seems our server has forgotten that it’s about the people’s dining experience not how much she can increase her bottom line.

We were there for an anniversary and loved it! Gracious and warm, our host ushered us to a lovely table and offered us a complimentary glass of sparkling wine to celebrate. Dinner was excellent. Menus are filled out, delivered to the kitchen and returned to the diner as mementoes. Plates are served family style and in the order determined by the kitchen. Portions are ample. Eager servers ensure a great experience, offering newcomers helpful suggestions. We shared a starter, a pasta, and a vegetable side dish to accompany our protein. The green bean tempura had a shatteringly crisp exterior and was served with black garlic aioli. The squid ink pasta was an umami bomb. The flavors and textural contrasts of the Brussels sprouts were outstanding, with just enough acid for balance and brightness. The duck was glorious–perfectly cooked breast meat medallions, legs and wings fanned around a bed of crispy garlic rice. The martinis garnished with smokey, almost meaty olives are sublime and not to be missed. Service was excellent, especially the host. The space is fun and buzzy, but not too loud for good conversation. All ages crowd. Good for a date night, for a dinner with friends pre or post Fillmore show, or catching up with family.

Well thought out dishes that were a surprise and delight. We had about 6 small plates and the steak between 4 of us and that was more than enough food. The roti and tempura smelt were exceptional as was the squid. Secure a reservation!

From the moment we walk in and were greeted by a extremely courteous young man who led us to our table the evening was a success. The vibe, the food, the staff, did I mention the FOOD was awesome.
I HIGHLY recommend The Progress if you haven't been before and if you GO AGAIN!!!

The Progress certainly lived up to our expectations! We decided to share the liberty farms duck main and pair it with the potted pork ciccioli, kiwi and burrata salad, roasted cauliflower and black truffle ricotta gnudi. The potted pork ciccioli arrived first, with grilled bread and wild plum jam. It was amazingly delicious and an unusual combination of flavors that opened the palate.

Next up was the Kiwi and burrata salad with chicories, toasted black sesame and miso ginger. The presentation was gorgeous and the flavor profile superb. We had decided to try the roasted cauliflower in curry with a lime pickle yogurt primarily because it read as such an unusual combination of tart, savory and sweet! It truly delivered. Try as I might to leave off the pickle (not a pickle fan) every bite with the pickle was a joy.

The small plate that outdid everything else and was worth every penny however was the black truffle ricotta gnudi. They were feather light, and scrumptious. Amazing. The duck main was wonderful as well, however personally I could have made a meal out of the gnudi.

The ambiance was lovely and service excellent. We appreciated that the diners were a nice range from casual everyday diners to special occasion folks. Oh yes, don’t miss the desserts. We will be back again soon!

Very advanced and innovative California cuisine. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Had a blast from the well designed dishes. The dungeoness crab and truffle gnudi dishes are the bomb. Our 8 year old boys loved most of the dishes too. Process are very high though.

Some very strong dishes in a bustling space. Brussels sprouts were the best I ever had. Creative and good ideas. Critique would be the pickeld yuzu did not come through at all with the oysters and worse, the sqaub was overcooked and dry. Can't complain too much though. Service was great. Felt the food was hit and miss, not quite justification for a Michelin star when taken as a whole.

I was grateful to the host for suggesting we dine in a bar booth when I requested the quietest possible table, knowing that this place is loud. However, it seemed our server did not like devoting a bar booth to a party of two and he was constantly checking to see if we were ready to move on. I didn’t appreciate this as I was hosting an old friend for his birthday and we wanted to catch up with one another over not rushed drinks and dinner.

I understand the pressure to turn tables, but at a place like The Progress diners should expect to have some space for a comfortable meal.

The food was fantastic as always, but I was not a happy camper. Note- we did not plan to hang out endlessly, just hoped for a relaxed pace.
