The Red House Restaurant

whipped farm eggs, sauted pancetta, fresh lobster & parmesan; house-made linguini
Smoked Salmon BLT
bacon, lettuce, tomato & dill crme fraiche on wheat bread
The service was great and the food was fabulous! We throughly enjoyed our visit!
Luncheon was delicious— an interesting baby spinach salad with sugared pecans, very thin strips pf red onions, and small chunks of beets, And notably fine salad dressing sparingly with really tasty vinegar. One of us had blue fish cakes, the other one skewer of accurately cooked lamb. Service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. It still slightly rankles that they have neither decaf coffee nor expresso, but that’s minor. A simple lunch became a festive special one.
Just right, great food, small + cozy, every timexwe go
Went on a Monday night and it was not very crowded but service was poor. Food was fine.
Highly recommend. The Red House is our “go to” restaurant for a special dinner with our two adult children.
Large plates should really be called medium plates. The meals are a fair price, but was still hungry afterward. I had the lobster risotto. Great flavor but risotto was overcooked. Duck wings were amazing.
Overpriced, pretentious restaurant which is typical for Harvard Square. My pasta "meal" was so small I had to ask the waiter if it was the full size order. It was a dish promoted as having crabmeat in it but I saw no trace of crabmeat. The meal was no better than making macaroni and cheese out of the box.
The food was fresh and delicious! The presentation was great. And Mergil (not sure if spelled correctly) my server was very knowledgeable, engaging and fun! She was truly a professional. Love how she created a whole experience for me! Thank you! Will return and DEFINITELY recommend!! Calvin C.
Oysters tiny. Shrimp small and prev frozen. Ambiance nit bad although cold at bar because of draft from
Front door. Would not recommend them for dollars large oysters.
I’d had a great meal here with some foodie friends in the summer a few years ago. This one was not as good an experience. The indoor space is charming and cozy, with a fire burning. Our server offered us the quieter of the rooms I saw, which was perfect. However - having ordered one “small plate” to share and one “large plate” - charred cauliflower and salmon - I was pretty surprised that the “large plate” was JUST a piece of salmon with no accompaniments. No rice, potatoes, vegetable .... so not very satisfying, and not very great value. Both orders were okay, neither something I’d bother to order again. My friend ordered lamb stew and was happier with his meal. The search for a reliable dinner option in Harvard Sq. continues!
Great ambience, good food (especially sea food). Can get crowded over the weekend nights
Delicious food. Chicken croquettes very creative. Generous lobster portion in the carbonara. Great server. Cocktails a good size.
Absolutely loved our valentines dinner here. Super reasonably priced and very unique atmosphere.
We had a great time at the Red House Restaurant. It was so cozy and charming, and great for a date.
Beautiful to look at and delicious to taste! I recommend the grilled octopus small plate, as it was tender and succulent.
Small and cozy, food is amazing, service is great.
It used to be quite good. The special steak dish was barely eatable.
Old friends snd I wanted to chat and visit— with tasty and interesting food in a quiet congenial place Our 2++ hour luncheon was a delight for all
Delicious oysters for only 50¢! Wonderful Atlantic salmon, lobster chowder and smoked salmon blt. We'll definitely return next time we're in the Boston area.
The sea bass was delicious
Fun and cozy as ever, and the food is terrific. Love the homey and welcoming feel. The food selections are great, with reasonable portions, and the wine list is also excellent.
They gave us a table near the door and it was uncomfortable.
Very cozy and excellent cocktails. A little disappointed in the food. The kale chips and hummus are likely store bought, and you pay for olive oil? I had the zucchini lentil dish, my husband had the salmon which was well cooked but heavy on the orange glaze. Our waiter didn’t seem knowledgeable on the the ingredients (not great for people with food intolerances). Will go back for drinks and the fireplace.
Really love this place. The food is tasty and the setting is cosy. A favorite for a romantic date night!
Very cozy, warm, nice fireplace. Lamb stew was perfect on a cold winter night, and fireplace as well. Very good choices of scotch and beverages with a lovely bar. Very enjoyable.
Very nice cozy restaurant on Harvard Square.
had not been since the renovations: food and service = AOK;
ambiance and noise level = instrusion.
seating too tight for our comfort.
the food was only average
The Red House has a lot going for it - good service, wonderful ambiance, excellent location, imaginative menu. It's the kind of really sweet spot that should result in a truly superb romantic experience. Only one thing was not up to par - the food. We had the lamb skewers as an app, lobster carbonara and tuna steak as entrees. They were OK. Not bad, just OK. The saving Grace was it wasn't ridiculously expensive.
Christmas Eve. Food was great, ambiance nice and in general warm and welcoming. The Manager got a little defensive when we inquired about allergens in the food. Considering the life threatening nature of the issue we appreciate patience with questions. Not my first time there so I was a bit surprised.
Had a lovely and delish Christmas Eve dinner. We wew pleased with the variety of offerings and choices for us all.
We enjoyed a very special evening at The Red House - wonderful, charming old-Cambridge ambience, delightful food and courteous, attentive service. We will be back!
We left a concert early, so arrived at 5:00pm and had no trouble getting a table. The oysters were delicious, with a wedge of lemon and cocktail sauce. Excellant service from our waiter, Lenny.
My wife had the lamb stew. Generous prortion, tasty but with a peppery aftertaste. I had Drunken crab meet carbonara. Plenty of pasta, but very, I mean very little crab meet.
Decafe coffee and regular and decaf cappuccino please. Otherwise, fantastic!
Unusual little place. The cozy fireplace seems like it would be lovely to sit next to. But the tables are crushed in together and you feel like you have having a conversation with the next table rather than your companion. It was LOUD, on a Wednesday late afternoon. The food is okay - scallops with a spicy pineapple salsa, lamb kebab, baked goat cheese and a spinach salad with apples and beets. Nothing stand out or unusual. Felt like a meal I could do better at home, and I'm not a great chef or anything. Not worth going back to - which is too bad because it would be nice to have a cozy out of the way place in Harvard Square to go after the theater.
Excellent food! Loved the historic building.
We celebrated a special occasion here, and it was the perfect setting. Outstanding, attentive but not hovering, service. Fantastic deal on oysters and shrimp cocktail if you get the timing right, not to mention the extensive lobster menu. Highly recommend for an intimate and delightful experience.
Really delicious food.
Delicious lobster chowder and turkey pot pie croquettes.
Yes, the food is high quality, beautifully prepared, and the owner cares about sustainablility and local food sources. The ambiance is wonderful.
