Family reunion week visiting. I never really write reviews but we were kind of upset by how we were treated last night at the red lion inn. We understand that Covid rules are important to follow. We also understand that you decided to open your restaurant apparently trying to adhere to the rules. However a party of eight we were told was not an issue when they gave us the reservation. Originally I had a party of six when I made it on OpenTable but then I called and told them we had to expand it to eight.Nobody said a thing about it. Upon arrival you got the feeling that they were not interested in being warm. Once we had drinks (we were not allowed to use the bar to sit and drink however per rules) we were told that “state regulations “ told them they couldn’t seat us together as a party of eight so they made us sit in two parties of four at two separate tables. We were not happy about this because nobody told us about this when we made the reservation and of course we want to sit with our group. However we sat at the two tables as instructed and ordered separately etc. All items such as cocktails bread and dinner took long periods of time to arrive. We arrived at 7:30 and at 9 PM we still hadn’t had dinner. The food itself was tasty and the cocktails were tasty. The bartender was friendly. The rest of the staff seemed distracted and more nervous about Covid and less concerned about being warm and welcoming hosts. One of them seemed as if he was afraid to get too close as he would approach the table with food items. We understand that some people are more fearful but maybe don’t work as a waiter or busboy if it is too scary for you.
I certainly understand the challenges of a business during these crazy times. I would recommend that the red lion Inn find a way to provide good service and a warm welcoming environment while also properly following Covid guidelines! It’s possible to do both !
We sat on the side porch for lunch, safe, comfortable, well served and well fed.
It was my first time at this famous restaurant and it did not disappoint or wow us either. Hubby ordered turkey and I ordered salmon . Both dinners were good but just a bit small for satisfaction . We were seated at a window which was wonderful in these covid times. We had to wait a little for our drinks as some ingredient in a cocktail
I had ordered was out of stock ...Overall it was enjoyable . a bit pricey with mostly good service . I’d recommend going there for its charm and history .
Service was delightful! Very efficient and attentive. Food was very good, as has been my experience in times past. Fresh and high quality. Prepared to very high standards. Dessert, apple pie, was delicious.
Dinner at Red Lion is always an excellent choice!
Sept 2020. Dined outside on porch. Very lovely. Contactless menu. Limited choices. Tuna Bahn mi was simply a tuna fish sandwich in a baguette. RLB turkey sandwich was pretty good but a bit dry. A bit pricey for simple food.
Always a pleasant place to visit. The food is not brilliant, but the ambiance and service make up for that. It was lovely eating out in the back patio area. Really a nice way to have lunch with friends.
The food was very good, eating outside was a bit noisy and there were some pesky bees around. I thought the portion on my pot pie was rather small for the price. It tasted good but it was small. Our server was very attentive.
Food excellent; loved tge
we had a great server
food was delicious
seating was outside and it was very nice with lots of social distancing
Beautiful day, courtyard was very relaxing and tables were placed socially distanced from other guests.
Our waiter, Adam, was excellent and very attentive to our needs.
Great food and service in a safe and comfortable environment. Just what is needed right now!
Beautiful outside seating, loved the chilled melon soup and Fish and chips were great!!
Always have a great meal
The waiter brought out the wrong drinks.
The wrong meals was delivered and took them 10 additional minutes to get the meal correct. Then the meat was well done.
Not even a offer of a cocktail while I waited for my dinner and everyone else began to eat.
Tho the Inn is pretty tired, the restaurant offers a solid menu. We both had fish that was delicious, me a sesame seed coated salmon and my husband a cod dish. The starters were a little more unique and the wine list was good. We sat outside on a lovely evening and the restaurant followed all the COVID requirements while making us feel comfortable and welcomed. The restaurant wasn’t out of line for the Berkshires but don’t plan on an inexpensive evening. Only the main dining room is open to observe distancing. And some food must be served with drinks.
Kitchen was clearly understaffed as the food took forever. We went again for breakfast and it was the same. Never had bad service here until this trip.
Great outdoor dining in these new COVID times. Food was excellent and service was great too.
Anniversary dinner. Food was delicious and service was excellent
Getting to dine outside and enjoy the wonderful food and drinks is the perfect way to end a day!
The food is always exceptional as are the cherries they use in the Manhattans!
Great weekend lunch with the ladies! Will definitely be back.
Terrific service. Very accommodating. Wonderful staff. All 5 Star ratings.
I usually love having dinner here but Saturday night everything seemed off. It took half an hour to get one simple cocktail from the bar that was set up about 20 feet from our table. After an hour our appetizer a cold plate of cheese etc still hadn't come. I finally got the waitress's attention. Perhaps she had forgotten. It came within about five minutes. But then five minutes later our entrees came. Mine a lamb special had burnt lamb. Maybe it's the stress of them operating with Covid but for our first dinner out in the area it was a disappointment.
Food is delicious and portions are generous. Quality justifies cost.
Great food, the atmosphere was wonderful. We had dinner out side on the porch. Now the service. One word Horrible. Started out fine , took our entire order drinks app’s and dinner. Dinner rolls arrived nice and hot. The apps came in a good timely fashion. 45 minutes go by and the waitress finally did a walk by and I asked “could you please check on our drinks “. She said the bartender was back up. Miss it’s been 45 minutes. The food was dropped off by a runner. Never seen the waitress until my wife had to hunt her down to get the check. 30 minutes later.
It was nice to have dinner on the front porch. The food was excellent as always!
Our fav place to eat Thanksgiving Turkey - year-round! They offer so many delicious items but we always seem to get the roasted turkey with mashed potatoes, string beans, stuffing, gravy, and cranberry sauce. And it’s always so good. Thank you, RLInn!
Michele and I always enjoy lunch at the Red Lion Inn when we get together for an afternoon of shopping at the outlets.
We both love the food and the Inn in General.
We missed Norman this visit. 🙂❤️
See you again soon!!
The food was even better than in the past and since the dining room is so spacious, you are naturally far away from other parties. Treat yourself and don't forget the rocking chairs on the porch!
Great first experience dining out since March
The outdoor seating is a wonderful and safe place to be. And of course, you get the wonderful food and service for which the Red Lion is famous. A great place to treat yourself!
My husband and I ate at the Red Lion Inn for our anniversary. My husband had the haddock fish and chips and I had the grilled Salmon. The server , meal and atmosphere was superb. Thank you for making our anniversary memorable. Mary and Wally Hersee
Sat outside (only option these days) on lovely patio; very good food but my salmon was a somewhat small portion
We were very disappointed that upon arriving we were not directed to where we had to go to sit at outside dining. The young lady at the hostess desk was not wearing cloves.Though there wee several tables and we had a reservation we were asked to wait
We then saw her setting a table though she just touch the computer and other things without gloves .
.. We then we're greeted by a very nice busboy
But the waiter brought us a bottle of table water wearing no gloves. The very nice busboy whom was following protocol brought us a new bottle. The waiter then wore gloves only after I questioned why he was not .We notice many of the staff were not wearing gloves at all time. We were explained by the waiter it sort of a pain to keep raking them on and off. Though the food was good we were disappointed.
We were at the little house in Chappaqua my the day before and it was amazing. All the staff was completely following all the protocol.
Last night we felt nervous. We now are nervous to go out because of this experience.
Thank you for your feedback! Its great to be back after 3 months. We have taken tremendous amounts of precaution to keep our guests and our employees safe. All are outlined on our website. Is is not a CDC or government mandate to wear gloves, but all of our staff wear masks and sanitizing their hands after each time they interact with possible contaminating surfaces they are wiped down every hour. We have done extensive training with the staff and feel confident in our Safety Measures.
Always love it here. Especially Norman the lobby cat.
Overall an alright experience over here! I want to highlight the exceptionally romantic atmosphere and the impeccable service during a busy Saturday night. The biggest complaint is the quality of the food. My boyfriend got a chicken entree while I got the salmon and both were cooked well, but really lacked flavor. Likewise, we ordered the risotto appetizer to split. We really wanted to love it. It was all just bland. Nothing that wow’d us. Really did lack flavor. I commend everything else though. We had a wonderful time and our server (whose name I can not grasp for the life of me right now. She had black hair ties in her long hair) was terrific!
Excellent service and nice setting within the hotel. Food was good.
The Red Lion is a must stop every time we visit the Berkshires. We had a lovely, quiet lunch, a great start to our weekend. Delicious clam chowder and beet soup, French dip and brown sugar cake and molten chocolate cake. The only disappointment was the Turkey burger, it was very dense and dry, but the fries were delicious.
Great food, great service and great location! I would definitely recommend for dinner. Very historic building and restaurant. Elegant touch with the piano being played in lobby
So nice!!! Elegant yet comfy and cozy! Excellent food and service!
