The Restaurant by Johnnie Cooke
Dined here on Sunday. Overall a nice experience, prosecco always helps! We were seated next to the guitar player which I thought would be a pain but actually he was great, very quiet yet created a good atmosphere. The restaurant was busy but not overly so, the waiters were very polite and helpful. However... the wait time for food was at least 20 mins, we were so hungry and no bread to keep us going. Unfortunately, 2 of us had to send our food back, Overcooked steak and cold potato beneath. As there were 4 of us, it meant that by the time we got new dishes , the other 2 diners were finished their meals! Our new dishes were delicious but such a pity about the time we were waiting and the first ones being so overcooked. Having eaten here before, it wouldn't put me off going back again however, but its something the restaurant should keep an eye on and try to ensure it doesn't happen too often.
Friends from Co Armagh joined us for lunch at this spacious restaurant on the top floor of Brown Thomas in Grafton Street. Service was fairly discreet yet helpful. Food was tasty, but portions were modest. We had requested a circular table which was just right and not at all crowded. We would happily recommend this restaurant.
Really delightful in every way ... I will visit again a d will recommend
No was not impressed, the waiter that took our order did not put it on the system, we were their nearly an hour, I had to ask as people were coming in and being served before us.until I brought it to the assistant, I asked for a coffe and I had to wait for this too, now they did give the coffee on the house, and said sorry a few times, but it was brunch so we were hungry, wouldn’t hurry back, over rated as a restaurant.
It was quiet when we visited. Very spacious and lovely furnishings. Perfect for an afternoon chat. Menu is quite limited - very fishy! But knew that before we visited. Food was good but not outstanding. Was good to visit and enjoyed it but don’t think I would go back. Service was excellent.
Fabulous food and staff were very professional and courteous. Great service.
Food was pretty average and the service not much better - would not recommend
Restaurant was great and staff were great for popping in if we needed anything.
Great food and service, beautiful place to sit back, relax and watch the world go by.
Service and ambiance was great but the food was really poor. I got the Chicken Schnitzel and one of my friends got the pasta - both were covered in olive oil and there was zero taste to the meal.
Great service, excellent food , good menu selection
Lovely for a quiet, yet atmospheric lunch. We had the open coronation chicken sandwiches .. delicious taste and presentation!
Absolutely wonderful experience! We had a fabulous afternoon tea, stunning savouries, wonderful cakes and mini desserts. Two of the three of us had particular dietary needs and the staff were brilliant in making sure these were accommodated.
I would visit again but only for a coffee and maybe dessert, in between shopping. The food wasn't great - it looked good, on the menu and on the plate, but tested bland. There were 6 of us and we almost all had something different, and all of us had the same opinion.
The menu was not the menu I called to confirm. There is no breakfast menu on Saturdays which I specifically called and asked about. The food we ordered was not the food that came out. There was no lemon crud or ricotta with the pancakes, mint with the porridge or passion fruit with the tropical food platter. When asked for lemon crud we were given a slice of lemon.
Had a lovely lunch for 2 here. Started off with Mimosas for 2. My other half had the main portion of crab and avocado salad, which was divine. I had the calamari with tomato based sauce with fries on the side - so fresh and very tasty. We shared lemon tart for dessert. My partner had a really lovely glass of rose, whilst I had a coffee. A great place for a group or couple. Looking forward to trying the afternoon tea another day.
Nice spot for a coffee when you need a break from shopping
Wouldn't be rushing back to be honest. Afternoon tea itself wasn’t bad, poor reservation service. I had booked a table via opentable a month in advance and had received confirmation. A week before the reservation date, I received a call from the restaurant requesting to push out the booking for an hour as they have overbooked. I emailed afterwards saying that's not possible as some of us have travel plans. No response so presumed it was okay. A day before the reserved date I got another call from the restaurant which lasted 18 minutes requesting details I had already provided and, credit card details to secure the booking. They charge 50 EUR per person for no shows while the afternoon tea is only 30 EUR per person which made no sense. I provided the details anyway as it was Easter weekend and everywhere else was busy and my friend really wanted to go, personally I wasn’t bothered at all at that stage with the cumbersome reservation processes. The afternoon itself was not bad, savoury options were great, sweet options could be better. The restaurant was not at all busy that day as I can see empty tables everywhere so couldn't really understand why the excessive phone calls were about
I ate here last sunday at 1pm. I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The host had prepared a lovely table for us in the corner of the restaurant. The food was delicious and the presentation of everything was really lovely. My only criticism was the service. I didn't even have time to finish my order before the server had walked off (I'm still dying to try the truffles fries). All in all, everything was great. Just expected a little more from such a nice place.
The host was unaware of our booking and gave us strange looks, quizzed us on the booking and said “well we don’t have it here” and looked down her nose. Our booking was made in advance. After having to prove we had a booking, the host waved the manager over said “she says she has a booking but I don’t see it” and he too looked down his nose at us, they then scrambled around to try and “find us a table” This is simply restaurant in a department store, you would think hospitality would come first. This would deter us from recommending to others.
Food was delicious
Coffee was so good
Not rushed but not left sitting waiting for too long - excellent balance
Menu on Website needs to be updated as the menu in the Restaurant contains a lot less choices
Manager who stepped in when we had a request (pancakes for myself & my Grandmother) was superb - all of the staff were super friendly.
Highly recommend :)
Treated my 2 daughters for lunch I had the sole which was perfectly cooked, absolutely delicious. My daughters had crab salad & a pasta dish, which they both thoroughly enjoyed. Although the staff were incredibly nice, we had to order water 3 times before we got it, and I ordered root vegetables with my meal and never got them. In saying that the food was so good I certainly would go back .
Service was terrible. Staff were rude. Music was awful & the speaker was directly over our table and the food was average. Overall very disappointing
Great food in a spacious and convenient setting in the middle of Brown Thomas store. Service from Jose and his colleagues was fantastic! Great choice of food, plenty of healthy choices if you like, all served up in great style. A great place
Poor experience. Booked table for brunch at 11.30am on 16th Dec but restaurant didn’t open the doors until 11.45 due to a private function - surely this was know when we made the booking. Waited over an hour from ordering until the food arrived - had to ask three separate members of staff to check where the food was. When the food arrived, one of the meal was not as ordered but unfortunately we did not have another hour to wait for this meal to be corrected. Overall a very poor experience
Poor quality, little love in this restaurant and very overpriced. We had chicken Milanese and it was tough and lacking flavour. Disappointed considering the price
Enjoyed the experience, with 2 exceptions. 1. Restaurant was cold where we were sitting. Rectified eventually, when we informed Manager.
2. Only one in the party had a starter. From arrival time, including 1 starter, took about 1 hour 40 mins for mains to arrive.
Food was delicious, Jack our waiter, was very friendly & professional.
Heat it up & speed it up!! Otherwise, very good experience.
Service is haphazard with too many servers and no attention to detail
Booked Afternoon Tea for my friend's 50th Birthday. The whole experience from start to finish was outstanding ...our server was superb ..very attentive and very informative without being intrusive ...the food was divine ...I haven't stopped telling everyone about our fabulous afternoon at the restaurant. Will definitely be back !!
Staff were lovely but we were told when we sat down there was a 15min wait for food. But we were waiting over an hour and the restaurant was only half full. The person next to us got his food in 10min and he ordered after us. There were a lot of unhappy customers in there this morning.
Waiting time for meal was a bit long. Also asked for some Chipotle sauce which we didn't get. Breakfast tea that was ordered to almost 15 mins to get to the table.
Lovely restaurant on the top floor of Brown Thomas. Gorgeous decor and great food. A lovely experience.
Was waiting around one hour there, and a cake is oily :(
Food was lovely but possibly not to everyone 's taste . I really enjoyed tasting the Gin am now converted . My friend had a great day so that's the most important and our server was brilliant.
Tks we will return
I WAS MEETING TWO FRIENDS FOR LONDON FOR LUNCH. WE ORDERED FROM A VERY GOOD SELECTION MENU. THE ITALIAN WAITER BROKE INTO OPERATIC SONG - REALLY IT WAS SO AMAZING. HE WAS AN INCREDIBLE SINGER AND IT WAS LIKE A PRIVATE AUDIENCE. IT WAS HIS LAST DAY WORKING IN THE RESTAURANT AND THIS WAS HIS THANK YOU. HE THEN ASKED A FEMALE WAITRESS TO JOIN HIM SINGING AND ANOTHER FEMALE FRIEND - I CAN NOT TELL YOU HOW INCREDIBLE THE EXPERIENCE WAS. IT WAS SO SPECIAL AND MY TWO FRIENDS FROM LONDON COULDN'T BELIEVE THIS WOULD HAPPEN. FOOD AS ALWAYS WAS LOVELY WITH A GREAT SELECTION. SERVICE VERY ATTENTIVE. HARD TO GET ANYWHERE ELSE IN DUBLIN WITH SUCH A RELAXED ATMOSPHERE. 10/10 FOR THE INCREDIBLE OPERATIC MUSIC - IT MADE OUR DAY
I had wanted to sample the Godiva afternoon tea since first reading about it. The savoury selection was unappealing. The sweet selection was a little too much. Some of the selection was very heavy and filling. Personally, I found Godiva chocolate not one of my favourites. My selection came with a hair. I had cranberry juice in place of the tea/coffee as I don't drink either and was charged extra for it. There's no ambience in the restaurant. It is in a department store but I expected more from BT. The staff were professional, welcoming and friendly.
We went for Afternoon Tea for Mothers Day. Everything was wonderful and there was great attention to detail. We had a thoroughly relaxing afternoon and the food was excellent. The afternoon tea itself was really lovely - only thing I would change is that I would have liked savoury and sweet in equal measures as there was far more sweet than savoury. Will be back.
Food was a little slow to arrive after our initial drinks (~40 mins) but it was worth the wait. The savoury elements of the afternoon tea were far tastier and more interesting than other upmarket places I have been to and the desserts were delicious too. Didn’t have room for the chocolates so we brought them home. Ironically they were the least interesting part of the chocolate afternoon tea! Really enjoyed the experience and service was very pleasant and attentive.
Great for a girlie catch up and to treat yourself.
