Excellent all round. The range of beers and wines is amazing and some beers you won't find in many other places. Food outstanding. The cod is one of the best fish dishes I have ever eaten.
Great service and the really nice laid back ambience.
Very creative menu but didn’t quite hit the mark with flavours. Service was disappointing, untrained staff that lacked professionalism. Our waitress sat at the table next to us having a cigarette break with friends before going back to work. Great potential once the finer details have been finessed.
Lovely meal - exciting menu and wine list. Really different to the usual pub option in the area. Good outstanding and staff really lovely and helpful.
Fantastic service, great food and lovely staff.
This is my 2nd visit to SALTERN’s and the food was so tasty and imaginative. The service was great, nothing was to much trouble. The wine list is extensive, but I had help in choosing a delicious rose.
Amazing wine list. Had a lovely rose’. Had a selection of the small plates all lovely. Good friendly service.
Really interesting, good food. Wine list vast and impenetrable which is a shame. Orange wine??
Great place to eat, wonderful food, very friendly, unpretentious and accommodating. It was our second time here and can't wait to return.
Had a lovely evening yesterday. We were a party of 6 and quite hungry. Various small plates arrived throughout the evening; all really interesting and tasty dishes. Tried various wines and really helpful with recommendations. Great evening, nice relaxed atmosphere, fab service and would definitely recommend.
The best food, drink, atmosphere and service anywhere in Lymington!
Really good food on small sharing plates at excellent prices. Would definitely come again if in the area. Also very long list of beers and wines to choose from
Brilliant beer selection, inventive and quality food to match
Nice place. Pretty quiet for the lunch service, which suited us.
Exceptional food. Second time we’ve eaten there. We’ve travelled widely and eaten out everywhere. This is one of the best menus and cooking we’ve ever had. Order everything and share. This is real food in a pub, not pub food 🤣
Exceptional food, nice setting and friendly service.
£20 a head for lunch with a few tap beer drinks.
The food was nice - but small portions.
The cured meats were tasty £5, but should come with some bread.
monkfish mcnuggs which were really nice could have done with 4 pieces (3 given). Ravioli was nice, but again, 1 piece for £8!
Flatbreads were better value, but the veggie was a bit dry.
It will be interesting to see how it pans out in quieter times, as the Lymington folk will expect value for money.
Delicious food, interesting menu and will definitely be back again.
Outstanding food. Competes with any menu anywhere in the world.
This is an absolute gem! Such a great new addition to the New Forest restaurant scene- going to be a legend down here.
Best food I have had outside of London
Tasty sharing plates from wood fired oven and bbq.
Came with a group of six. We couldn’t rate the food and drink enough. All so delicious 🤤
We’ve recommended and will definitely be back.
It was great to be in a pub again Salterns had a good size crowd for 4pm on a Sat but there was plenty of space good beer snacks and service
Delightful lunch. We really enjoyed the lobster that we could watch being cooked in front of us. We love that the menu features locally sourced fresh produce and changes accordingly. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We hope to be back soon.
Excellent food & service. Good COVID 19 rules. Thank you
The garden is pleasant and laid out with new planting, will take a little time to grow in. Two large trestle tables dominate, would be better to have more smaller tables in these times. Strange menu, mostly sharing plates 2-4 (covid correct?). Meat and fish offered with no veg all extra and serving 2-4 too, so quite wasteful for just 2. Served on dinner plates then offered side plates to eat off. Long wine list at extortionate prices for a pub (£25-£125'ish), includes 3 bottles of Rose and about 8 bottles of Orange wine. Panna cotta served in a knickerbocker glory glass with a dessert spoon too big to get it out. Overall it is expensive and perhaps trying too hard to be different.
friendly and engaging service. We tried two craft beers based on server recommendation - both very good.
Food (Flat breads) were unusual, but very tasty. We saw the chef picking herbs from the garden so clearly fresh. The rest of the menu was intriguing - and other plates looked good.
outdoor area was a large suntrap, one area looked like it was going to be planted (we were there just after lockdown/April).
Great food, lovely wine
Great piece of pork and the brill was brill
Fantastic restaurant with a large garden and outdoor kitchen. Food was great with lots of small plates and brilliant mix of flavours. Extensive wine list and very friendly staff. Highly recommend.
Brilliant helpful staff. Great food and great beers.
We really enjoyed our visit and the food was very good. The waiter was extremely friendly and we have always been impressed with the work rate of the owner.
Lovely welcoming staff. Great choice of wines, beers, ciders. Would have appreciated a menu, but surprise was good.
Brilliant atmosphere amazing food brilliant service excellent value 5 stars quality
Great food and even better beer / wine selection. Best place in the New Forest for craft beer by an absolute mile!!
This a great place! The menu is small but wow it packs a punch. Even the (confit) potatoes were devine. While the veggies are separate it is still good value as some people don't like potatoes like my husband, so he didn't order any. However he still managed to eat mine.... Grrrrr.
The beer selection was extensive to say the least and with a super descriptive menu if you can't find a beer for you there simply isn't one. My husband is very fussy about his evening beverage and he was delighted with his many choices! Har.
We took our kids and we were made very welcome. The waiter, Jacob and the landlord, Henry were very accommodating and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. It's a great asset to the town and I hope The Saltern stays forever!
Amazing service, scrumptious food and best choices of beer I’ve ever seen in a restaurant. I could had spent hours in the bottle shop part! New Favourite place to go in Lymington.
Lovely food wine service
Different unusual but so tasty and well cooked
Really good seasonal food, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. Great range of beers and wines. Lots of local products available.
First class food and an imaginative and delicious choice of beers and wine. What more can you want?!
We lamented the demise of the the Tripp pub, but so glad it's been taken over by an enthusiastic team. Depsite being in the process of redecorating, we were welcomed for a relaxed friday lunch with local seasonal food cooked to an aunexpected high standard. Looking forward to the refurb being finished - Lymintgon needs a place like this.
