The Food was excellent , The Service was spot on, and the view is Amazing.
The food was delicious! The service was not great. They were very busy and it seemed like they needed more help. Otherwise a fun experience!!
Again, another great experience. The bar drinks and appetizers were great. Dinner and views of sunset was breathtaking!
Been going here for years always get the prime rib always great, except now they have new chef and this pic of my steak was befor I touched it, also not tender and very poorly seasoned ( they brought aujus to try to help, it didn't not worth the $42. Sorry you want good prime rib not the place anymore.
Another great meal at the Vans!
This is not a restaurant for seniors. The strange entrance where the door opens out onto the stairs was really a problem. The man at the desk and the strangely dressed "greeter" did nothing to help us while we awkwardly struggled with their weird entrance door. Food: the onion soup was not very onionee and not very hot. The escargot were tiny and shriveled and tough. They looked like clams from a can. The andouille sausage was indistinguishable from kielbasa. The jalapeno cornbread served with it was good. Mary, our server, was excellent.
Great service with an awesome view
We usually go to celebrate special occasions but this is the last time we will ever go to The Vans ever again. The manager Edgar is the rudest and most disrespectful person and lost my families business.
We love the Vans. The service is great. Our dinner was delicious and the view was wonderful!
Great food. Got there just before dusk. Tremendous view of the Bay Area. Really unique setting. Takes you back to older times.
Tony is the BEST!!
And the view!! Wonderful place to spend time with friends and family.
We were more than a bit disappointed with our trip to The Van's on the Hill Restaurant. After noting that they had over 1600 reviews on a major review site that averaged 4.6 stars, we were expecting quite a meal. There were four in our party. Both wives were celebrating their Birthdays which was one of the problems. I mentioned that on my original Open Table Reservation. And although everyone around us was getting the birthday treatment, it never happened at our table. Two Moscow Mules were ordered for before dinner drinks, which are normally served in copper styled mugs to keep the drinks cold. Both ours were served in a water glass! I ordered the house 3/4 lb prime rib. Although it was cooked correctly, and somewhat flavorful, it was not at all tender. But the waiter would never have known that because he didn't come back to our table for at least 20 minutes to check on us and refill drinks etc. And when he did, he didn't ask how everything was. - small gentleman with black hair and a ponytail. (Guess he has never heard of the two bite rule?!) One out of four of us thought their meal was good and he got the filet and lobster tail special. The wives said their meals were just "OK". We all got desserts. The cheese cake and the chocolate cake were both dry. I added a scoop of ice-cream to the chocolate cake and my dessert was $16.50! We dropped over $350 for the four of us with no wine including tip. For that kind of coin, we expected a much better experience and food that might surpass mediocre. Sorry but I cout any of us will be returning. Not really sure what the 4.6 stars are all about.....
Best in all regards....one of a kind and a historical landmark.
Magnificent- good food (fried calamari, Monte Crisco, Philly Cheesesteak), good service. Enjoyed the view too!
We are frequent dinners at The Van's. Unfortunately, someone changed our reservations from 3 people to 2 people without asking us. Not sure if it was the staff or someone at Open Table.
That really messed our night up for Valentine's. (We celebrate the following day. So we had to make a last minutes rebook so the family could eat there.
The table was squeezed in the extreme corner of the main 1st floor eating area. It was so noisy we could not even hear each other.
In our original request, we asked for the upper floor where it is more intimate and less volume. We attempted to tell the staff about this, but they didn't even pay attention to our concern.
This is quite unusual, as the staff is very caring and try to ensure a great visit. But this did sour our evening and it really was a waste of money not to enjoy our dinner.
We have used Open Table a few times to book at the Van's, but we seem to get a more positive interaction when we book directly from their website where even the owner has responded to our reservation and any additional request when making it.
May have to go back to that method with what happened to us on this visit.
If asking for special items, always make sure to reach out to the merchant to ensure a request can be honored so not to run into this issue.
Love this place. Go to for quality beef.
Food is not as good as it used to be.
I've been to this restaurant many times. They have the best Monte Cristo in the Bay Area! Service is always friendly and efficient. The building is historic, but showing its age a little. It is definitely on a hill, and parking is sometimes a challenge -- there are enough spaces, but the terrain can be a strain.
Would I come back? Definitely!
We introduced our friends to Van's and they were very impressed with the atmosphere and the food. Unfortunately the service was slow, something that we have not experienced at Van's previously. The food was as great as usual and we definitely will continue to go back for a very good dining experience
The noise level was unbelievable. Kids running around uncontrollably. I’v had a better chicken fried steak at Denny’s.. don’t waste your time or money.
The salad and apps were a little disappointing, but the entrees and dessert were delicious. We would definitely try again.
Always a fine place to dine. A great view, fine service and a great menu to choose from.
Nice dinner with my husband. Loved all the oldies music. Everyone was very welcoming. Great service. Good drinks. Chose the ribs to save room for their chocolate chocolate chocolate cake. Yummy. Husband loved the Salisbury Steak. View is exceptional.
Brought my friend for a nice dinner with a view.
She enjoyed her Chicken Liver dinner but my jambalaya with pasta was so so...
Very generous portions :-)
Always a treat for a special occasion dinner! Also a good choice when feeling like. a cocktail & appetizers at the bar.
Great spot! Love it
The Vans is always Great!!
Filet was cooked perfectly and side portions were generous.
Excellent meal, Tom was a wonderful server. Will be back!
Servers are consistently friendly and attentive. They always assure a wonderful dining experience.
Great food and service. Will definitely return.
Great from start to finish as always.
We only get to go to Vans when we are in the area, but we make sure we go every time. The food is excellent. The service is excellent. What more needs to be said. Word to the wise, ALWAYS make reservations.
Fantastic service. Food was very good. A bit pricey but worth it n
