Excellent food, service and ambiance. First time visit for a friend from Florida. Rave reviews for the food and service. Great view of the Bay Area.
Great combination of class and hominess at this neighborhood tradition. Where else can you get a top notch filet mignon or a greasy chicken fried steak from the same menu. We will certainly be back soon. Tables next to the windows have a nice Bay view.
We enjoyed our evening out with the family. I noticed there were no other children present; our 3 year old Godson was dining with us. Everyone was accommodating and willing to engage with him. The food was incredible!!
After attending a social event, on our way home, we decided to go out to dinner. I logged onto the Open Table website and entered the Iron Gate, Belmont for a reservation, to our surprise there was an opening in 15 minutes which was perfect timing. When we arrived we were greeted, told him we had an Open Table reservation he was surprised and said that he request had just been received, it was kid of funny. We were soon seated and our server took our order for a half bottle of sparkling rose, when he returned with our beverage we were ready to place our order. We split a spinach salad, I ordered the fried prawns, (my favorite) and my husband ordered the filet mignon and a side baked potato (it was huge, he brought part of it home.)
While we were dining there were a couple of birthdays that were celebrated, it was nice to see the servers and the maitre'd come to the respective tables to sing Happy Birthday, a nice touch, not too loud, not a disturbance to the other dinners.
I had an anniversary dinner here. This place is not formal, but not completely casual either. It was a perfect place for us - because we did not want to dress up that day.
Food portion - HUGE!!! We over ordered food. We order steak - and we both order side order. Side orders are as big as entree!!!
Not a good place for DIET!
pretty old place, the best part of it was the view
Loved bringing out of town guests for dinner at The Van’s. The American menu was exactly what they were seeking after 3 weeks in the South Pacific, and the craft beer choices were exactly what my wine loving friends were seeking for a change.
It’s nice to see a cosy, one-of-a-kind restaurant succeeding year after year.
I love your restaurant! Great food, service and WHAT A VIEW!
Our server was great and the hostess was very accommodating when we wanted to move tables. Three concerns: (1) didn't see anything on website noting a VERY limited Mother's Day menu, so very disappointing; (2) food was bland and just not great at all; and (3) the room smelled musty (like it had been closed up for a long time) and we had to move to downstairs table (which they happily accommodated). Service was great! Just overall a mediocre food experience.
The Van's is a special place for us. We have been going there for tens of years and have never been disappointed. The view is spectacular, which also described the food and service.
Upon arriving we waited a short time to get a window table as requested. The lady host was very nice to us. The overall waiter experience was very good and the food was mostly a hit we liked the experience a lot and had a good time being there.
Awesome everything! Awesome everything! Awesome everything!
Best food place on the Peninsula. Great service from GEO.
Scallops were the best. Filet & Lobster special cannot be beat !
Food and service always very good.
Beautiful view and courteous service from the staff. We Will be going back!
We have never had a bad experience at The Vans & we have been guests of yours for many years. Outstanding food and service. The view of the bay area is outstanding.
Van’s is a classic restaurant with generous portions, great flavors and terrific service.
We really enjoyed our meals. Calamari was delicious
Lunch was great. We had a day off work and decided to have a date . The Vans never disappoints.
The service is always top notch. They always remember what we like to drink.
Great views on a clear day.
My husband loves their French dip and I love their BLT special. They have excellent French Fries.
Nice atmosphere and great food. Not as busy and very relaxing.
Stan the bartender was terrific. Geo the waiter was outstanding as usual. The fried prawns were tasty & big. Took some home.
I had the sole with capers. I love capers, however, the sauce was very salty. Almost not edible.
We went here for lunch. Nice dining experience. Service was great. Just wish there were more red meat options for lunch.
Large portions! Come hungry! One of our favorite dining spots!
Wonderful lunch with my friend.
Table was wonderful with a view and staff always
Our meal was excellent as always and we were not rushed.
our favorite hang out ...best food...great hosts ...love this placee
I have been to Van’s three times and always try something different. I will continue dining at Van’s until I hit the whole menu. It’s a great experience dining at this Venue. Kudos to the chef and staff.
The food was amazing as usual and this is why we spend birthdays at The Vans. This time our reservation time was delayed an hour as tables were not available so we spent extra extra extra time in the bar. Which is not always advisable if you are driving home...
Very good food.
This place is an "institution" on the peninsula in Belmont, perched high atop a hill along El Camino. it is especially appealing to the Boomer generation and older. Their vintage photos and memorabalia just enhance the ambiance. Great comfort food at very reasonable prices. The wait staff is delightful and the service was spot on. Instead of driving by, like we have for years, drop in - you won't regret it.
Our waiter was Anthony. He was well informed and everything went well. One of our favorite spots.
Always good food and service, never disappoints.
Great place for lunch or dinner. We need more places like Vans.
The food is not as great as it use to be. Not sure if they changed chef in the kitchen. Gotten pricier and quality not as great as before. I am comparing to the past couple of times when I ate at The Van's.
The Van’s is always a great place to eat and drink.
The Van's has been our go-to spot for special occasions and family celebrations for over a decade. From the service to the food to the drinks the staff and management are 100% dedicated to making the dining experience the best in the Bay Area. We even hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner and Loring and The Van's team took care of every detail - even going the extra mile to print up special personalized menus for our rehearsal dinner. I cannot say enough good reasons why The Van's should be your special restaurant for special days and any day!
Food was generous but not very tasty.
I asked for a booth in the front room when I reserved my table days prior to eating at The Vans. We got a table in the back and were alone in the back room. It was my friend's Birthday and being back there was not pleasant at all. The food was mediocre at best. The waiter seemed to forget us ( out of sight....). I won't go back.
Those special scallops are amazing! Always a treat to have friendly professional staff serving and cooking.
I always love eating at The Vans. I enjoy the great food and wonderful service. The view is amazing!
Always a five star experience.
