The Van's 'On The Hill'

Love the ambiance, the view, and the history of The Van's. The food was mostly good but not exceptional, as you would expect by the high prices. Oysters, escargot just average. Cold mashed potatoes. We made a reservation, yet were only seated at least 30 minutes later. Good friendly service. Would go for a drink/dessert, but not sure if I'd go for a meal again.

Had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner. Beautiful view, great food, superb service. 5?stars all the way. Our server Tony was outstanding!

I along with my wife and various family members have dined at Vans for the past 5 years, the night before Thanksgiving (we lived down south). Always excellent in all regards. Toughest part is finding the turn onto Belmont Ave - its dark coming of El Camino.

For most of my 50 years in Belmont - The Vans has become our go to place for friends , family and business associates from around the world.

It is not only about the view of our Bay Area … It is about wide variety of food, the excellent preparation and service. Consistent quality and Service packaged in a quaint environment surround by an amazing view.

This time the quality of the food was not great. We've had better meals there. The table was too small for four people and the room too crowded. It felt like the wait staff was tired, so were the owners.

My wife and I had a fabulous dinner. The view, ambience, service and food were outstanding. We will definitely come back.

Great food at this local establishment. Good portions and a reasonable price.
Good wine list as well.

Anniversary

One of my favorite restaurants on the peninsula and one of the best views in the SF Bay Area!

We went to The Vans to celebrate our 35th Anniversary! We were excited as this was our first visit! As I checked us in, I reminded the lady at the desk about our Anniversary to which she responded “yes”, with no smile or eye contact!
We were shown up stairs to a corner table...beautiful view!
We chose their Sunday/Tuesday special...filet & lobster! Delicious! Also included dessert. Before we got our small cup of vanilla bean ice cream ...room was full & a bit noisy!
(Group party tables of 7 & 10!) NOT A WORD about our Anniversary! Nothing special was done for us! Not even a candle on our ice cream! Disappointed! Service was adequate! We had to ask for more bread & butter. Server did not stop by our table to pour more wine or check if everything was ok!I I also had to use the hard butter squares from our bread in my baked potato!
Will we return...maybe....but not for a very special celebration.

Had the rack of lamb for the first time here and it was fantastic. The black and white sundae was great. The wait staff was courteous as usual.

The food was excellent I would like to see more specials, all the specials were fish that day. The service very good. The noise level was a little loud with a party table near us and a a group of men across from us. Otherwise highly recommend

Delicious, beautiful dinner for a great price in an outstanding venue. What else could you want? A charming, attentive waiter named David? Got that too. The blackened scallops with cornbread is outstanding.

Unexpected surprise, first time ever. Nice casual setting, with some wonderful views of the bay and way off in the distance, skyline of all of San Francisco.... except the mountains rises in-between... sorta hazy on our visit, but still striking. Service was VERY good, VERY attentive. We each ordered different entrees, and we both surprised by the more than generous servings and about as good a 'spot on' preparation that anyone could expect... Delish!
Pricing 'seemed' to be med/high, but with the service, serving sizes and very good preparation we both concluded that the pricing was also 'spot on'. Treat yourselves and give them a try, or go back again soon.

Best suburban San Fran restaurant by far. Great food, attentive service and a one of a kind setting!

Food was just luke warm and got cooler quickly. Unsat.

The service was excellent. Very nice waiter. The food is good. Nothing was really outstanding or memorable. They could use a little remodeling or even housekeeping.
