The Village Pub
Food as good as ever, except my duck dinner was cold. Took nearly 30 min to get drinks from bar to our table, lengthy wait to get waiter's attention to open wine. Decanting wine no longer done table side as was previously our experience.
I'm currently on a gluten and dairy free restriction. Restaurant was very accommodating. Everything was delicious as they modified most of the dishes.
Our waitress , Melody, was wonderful. The $100 a peace for the porterhouse dinner was excessive.
My wife’s birthday with family. Our server, Melody, was superb!
HAVE NOT BEEN TO VILLAGE PUB FOR A TIME. IT WAS JUST EXCELLENT FOR LUNCH.
PARTICULARLY, SINCE WAS SO QUIET AND SERENE AND YOU COULD TALK AND HEAR.
1ST RATE SERVICE. EXPENSIVE, BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT.
Have given previous ratings. We try to go here for lunch every Friday from Saratoga where we live. Tom is our favorite waiter. Marisa greets us when we come in. It has become to us "Where Everyone Knows Your Name." Great service, water, bread rolls, wine, love the salads and lunch specials. Great wine, surprised how many Wine Spectator stars they have, Love the music. The manager has told us the most popular lunch dish is the Village Pub Hamburger and French Fries. Hard to believe as all the meal, including desserts are great. Love the cheese! We see business meetings, families with children, and couples of all ages enjoying the experience here.
I went for my anniversary with my wife and we had the best time. Food was delicious and the service and ambience amazing.
The food was not good. The menu is confused. There was not one dish that made sense. Soooooo expensive it’s ridiculous. I had the chicken which was a dish that really doesn’t work. Dry overcooked and bland chicken laying on a bed of overly mayonnaised cold vegetables, mixed with a really salty gravy - just bizarre. I left 3/4 of my dish and no one asked me why. I will never go back there. The scallops were so small, served with eggplant, a strange combination with bizarre textures. This was a monumental disappointment.
First time dining at this restaurant. Outstanding food and service.
Excellent food and perhaps the most polished and professional staff I have ever experienced. Each and every single person encountered from walking through the door was a wonderful example of what a fine restaurant should be. Thanks to everyone at The Village Pub.
Overall a great place. Service lagged a little at first but picked up quickly. Wrong plate was served but was quickly corrected. Some tableware was dirty. Food was fantastic!
Outstanding all around, as always!
We chose Village Pub to celebrate our Anniversary because we are always happy when we go there,
and our experience did not disappoint. Food was delicious, server was friendly and attentive, environment cozy and welcoming!
As a regular client at the Village Pub, I think we may try to avoid Mondays. We have noticed that some of the food quality seems to drop on a Mondays. We have seen this most notably with the desserts and we wonder if the pastry chef does not work on Mondays.
Typically the Village Pub is fantastic and among our favorite restaurants. We may just try to avoid Mondays.
Service, as is normal, is consistently exceptional. Their veggies are always exceptional and their pub burger is the best I have ever had.
Over the years, I have been to the Village Pub many times, but it has been a while. We came with guests from out of town. Everything was great. Our server Melody was terrific, just the right amount of service. Our glasses were never empty, but she knew we were friends with a lot of catching up to do. All in all a wonderful evening.
There’s a reason this restaurant has a Michelin Star and honestly we think they’re due for another. Outstanding everything. Food was just perfection. Silky corn soup with a hint of chili oil with a slice of corn bread; scrumptious mini scones with a fantastic fog jam; a fried chicken salad that made me swoon with some of the best ingredients and preparation I’ve ever had; eggs and leeks that were cooked to such a soft consistency it was like a cloud; excellent wine pairings and a fantastic dish of fresh beignet for dessert with a berry compote and crepe englaise. That was our meal on Sunday and every single aspect from walking through the door to final sips of coffee were a treat.
Village Pub waitstaff and chefs make you feel special and pampered without being overbearing. And the food, though beautiful and delicate is also approachable and so so delicious. Yes it’s expensive but this type of fine dining and attentive service in a very expensive neighborhood are going to cost. I personally think it’s totally worth treating oneself to meals like this when you can.
This was a special dinner out that was not what we had hoped for. The service and ambiance were great but the food was simply disappointing. Not even the salad was good (dry too little dressing and almost no Gorgonzola cheese). The filet mignon was tiny and yet it wasn’t evenly cooked (half was medium rare and half was medium). For $65 for this tiny entree one should expect that it would be perfect. Also it had way too little sauce. I’m sorry to say this was not the special dinner for which we hoped. :(
I hope it was just an off night for them.
Lovely room, excellent service. Dinners were excellent.
I’ve been here on multiple occasions and was surprised that our server arrived 15 mins after we were seated. Our seating at 6:15p so it as still early.
They got our appetizer wrong and had to go back for the potato bellinis. My chicken entree was half the portion of when I last ordered it a month ago and the bed of vegetables was served cold - which it was not last month. I brought a guest and her first time at Village Pub and she couldn’t understand why I raved about it.
Service slow, food was cold.
Always love Village Pub!! Love seeing the team at VP always bring so attentive and friendly.
The service and food exceeded our expectations. Very well trained and plentiful staff. Excellent selection of food. Worth the prices. We will go back again.
Everything we ordered was top notch. The combinations were interesting and delicious.
Doy it's great
What a treat! Not only is this restaurant beautiful and elegant inside, it is also Michelin starred with an incredible wine list and excellent food. We loved the velvet booths and it felt like we had gone back in time with the romantic surroundings and the music. But, the star of the show was the beautiful food and wine. Incredible dinner!
Some changes were made to the menu and we were disappointed because our dishes were not what we expected and it’s expensive especially when you’re getting a dish that is just alright.
If you don't mind the cost, nice place in downtown Woodside.
Tasty and too expensive
Great restaurant, really good food. Price will start creep up, but something you should experience.
Went for an early dinner on Saturday. Service was exceptional. Our server suggested a wonderful red to go with our second meat course that was wonderful. He even gave me a taste even though I was the designated driver. My dining companion ordered the rib eye which was so good, and I don’t even like steak. The only unfortunate thing was she couldn’t finish it. The waiter took it to wrap it to go and it never came back. We didn’t realize it until we had left. At $115, it would have made a nice meal the next day and she still had at least half of it left.
I know this place is an institution as it has been around for decades, however it is ridiculously overpriced for what you get. Our main courses were tasty, our fish appetizers were small, expensive & just “meh” in terms of taste.
We would have loved the soufflé for dessert but weren’t asked about it earlier in the meal & could not wait the required 20 mins to make it once we completed our main courses. A less than memorable dinner for our 25th anniversary at an outrageous price.
I came from Nashville to see my son and wanted to try this restaurant- as recommended by cousins who live here. My son lives in SF so we have eaten in some wonderful places. Both of us just loved the atmosphere. Service was very good and the food was yummy. I was a bit disappointed there was no local seafood- but given teh choice of the pub menu and the full diner was fun and allowed me to eat light and my son to eat full. I cant imagine anything that could be criticized.
The best thing about our meal was the 5 oz grated fresh truffle over house-made pasta with butter and creme fraiche. Just wonderful! The sommelier made a really nice Sirah recommendation to go with my duck breast, which could have been more medium rare - it was more medium - as our waiter said it would be. The scallops were good. Peach tart ok. Service was uneven. Went to celebrate our anniversary.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal and a great ambience. The occasion was our wedding anniversary. We were well taken care of and entertained by both the waiter Corey and the busboy Jose. Jose, we found out, speaks a little Russian as well as his native Spanish, as he is married to a Russian woman and has two little children. They took very special care of us on our special anniversary.
Exceptional in all regards: service, food and wine list. We will be back.
First visit for a birthday brunch on a Saturday. Excellent service and environment but very small portions and the food was nothing special.
This restaurant has the best food best people working there. We have been there at least 5 times and have enjoyed each time.
The best place to celebrate any occasion. We love it here. Great food, great service. Celebrated our anniversary as we do many events. The food is amazing!!
I am a vegetarian and was told over the phone that the chef could prepare something that was not on the menu. Based on this representation I made a reservation for my boyfriend’s (also a vegetarian) birthday. I am an avid foodie and have been to various Michelin-star restaurant in the US and Europe, so I wanted to try out some place new. When we arrived, the limited veggie options on the menu were not appetizing to my guy, who asked if the chef could prepare some roasted veggies or something off menu. He was told he had to select a preset option, which greatly disappointed him. This place is not cheap and the fact that he is African American and I am a Altina, may have played into our experience. This was an embarrassing and demoralizing experience.
Service was amazing as was the food. Deserves more stars.
Could not have been better. Excellent, creative food; impeccable but warm and friendly service; subtly elegant atmosphere. Worth the trip and the price.
