One if the very best restaurants in NYC! Recently underwent a subtle renovation that makes it seems a little younger and hipper. Lighting is great! Love this place! Best dark chocolate soufflé in the city!
This is a gem! So glad I finally tried it. The food was wonderful and the service was amazing. Could not have had a better experience.
Food is delicious and inventive. Chef gave many amuse bouches plus extra dessert. Tables are nicely separated for privacy. Servers are great. Sometimes their strong accents are difficult to understand. Music was very good early on; as evening wore on it got faster and more energetic, not conducive to enjoying a relaxed meal. But mostly positives with our experience, not complaining! Would’ve been 5 stars except for those tiny negatives.
The wait staff is attentive but do not hover. The food-from appetizer to dessert-is amazing. We loved each part of our tasting menu
Great and unique meal. Best filet mignon I have ever eaten.
Excellent meal and service, and lovely dining room . Very accommodating on dietary restrictions - chef customized the tasting menu for us and every dish was perfection and creative. Definitely will dine here again.
The food was DELICIOUS, the preparation lovely, the service attentive and welcoming. The restauant was welcoming and lively but not noisy, and the tables were not jammed on top of each other.
Although the food was delicious and the service quite good, the room itself reminded us of the 1950's - way too formal.
Absolutely wonderful Birthday dinner! Exquisite, elegant, gracious and exciting describes everything from the service to the presentation and experience of each course! Special Thank you to both of the managers, Fran and Fatima, for their patience on the phone, special accommodations and lovely surprises throughout the dinner. TOCQUEVILLE is number 1 on my list!
We hate fouls gras- it is cruel
Consistently excellent dining experience over the years
It was the best meal I’ve ever had. Period. We enjoyed ever appreciate, entree, and dessert we ordered. Plus, the chef’s compliments were stunningly beautiful and delicious. The sommeliers were experts, helping us pair our food with world-class wine. Nothing but compliments and good memories. We’ll be back hopefully very soon.
My daughter ordered the bouche de noel, and I did not know that there were brandied cherries in it. It was my oversight to not see it in the menu bc there were four of us and four desserts on the menu, we just decided to get one of each. My daughter ate one cherry and she said it tasted funny. I tasted it and it was very boozy. I told the waiter that they should've told us that it contains alcohol, and rather than downright apologizing, the waiter said they will notify the chef. When I mentioned that if they see a kid ordering that they should let the customers know next time or double check that it contains alcohol, the guy had the audacity to say, they have been serving this to a bunch of kids all day and no one had an issue. What do you know, they serve boozy desserts to kids and they have no qualms about it. My daughter had a headache and she felt ill. What a sad ending to a great Christmas day.
The tuna tarter is particularly tasty. The combination is unique for the city
Our Christmas Day dinner was lovely. Everything was good and there were some interesting combinations like the cassoulet style beans with lobster. We will definitely dine here again.
Sophisticated, elegant, amazing food, service and staff
Nice spacious place to enjoy a special occasion.
All the staff on duty on Christmas day were fantastic. In particular Peter who was very friendly and warm we asked him for reccomendations in the city and he was so helpful.
Our 50th Anniversary dinner was beyond compare. Perfection!
Tocqueville is our favorite upscale restaurant in New York. The food is fabulous, and the chef sends out small, delicious bites at various points in the meal. Every time we come, they remember what we like to drink and other personal details that make it very pleasant. Our favorite host, Miguel, makes the meal extra fun and has a grin that lights up the room. The sommelier is also terrific, knowledgeable and helpful without being stuffy. Tocqueville is a special-occasion place. Each time we come, we feel pampered and perfectly satisfied. How many restaurants can you really say that about?
This evening we had a great experience at tocqueville. Our server was incredibly polite. Initially were thrown off by the maitre d who appeared to have an arrogant are about them but onward to the rest of the evening everything turned out amazing. I highly recommend the scallops with foie gras as well as the passionfruit gratinee dessert. I'm sure we will be back sometime in the future. Glad we got to check out this french-inspired elegant eatery this evening
Always enjoy the superb food here. The staff is so warm and inviting, it feels like coming home.
We wanted to like Tocqueville. There for wife’s birthday. Arrived early and planned to order tasting menu. Took an hour after menus to order. Afraid tasting menu would take all night. Ordered two appetizers and only got one. The staff was earnest and sweet but under trained. Like they want to be a two or three star restaurant but haven’t trained or hired enough staff. The dining room is small and the tables are close together.
Food was good but not good enough for the price.
The tasting menu was spectacular. My guest was a lovely young man who enjoyed his first tasting menu. We had a splendid time trying the eight courses and comparing our reactions to the presentation, flavors, and textures. The service was attentive and pleasant, but never overwhelming. And the room was beautiful and filled with colorful, lively paintings. All told, a delightful evening that we will remember for years.
It is always a treat to dine at this restaurant and to experience the chef's creativity and excellence in preparation, ingredients and execution, and the staff's impeccable service. The only negative in the entire evening was the music, the quality of which is far below the dining experience and is played at a volume that was both intrusive and, over the course of the dinner, annoying.
I chose this restaurant to propose to my fiancé. The staff and manager were both very accommodating and made it a very special night. The filet mignon was amazing, perfectly cooked medium, cut like butter. It was a special night and Tocqueville gets my business again in the future.
Excellent service and cozy seat.
Thank you so much.
Bruno and new staff were wonderful.
The place has done a wonderful upgrade to the interior but service and food remain too notch. Always enjoy our visits.
We all loved the food, service &/setting! A glorious evening
Wonderful upscale restaurant for all, or special, occasions.
Duck was best ever tasted in my life! Scallops and Fois Gras outstanding.
Service attentive, but perfect. Beautifully decorated room with great acoustics.
It was our first time there.
We will return many times.
Fantastic new menu items and updated decor . One of a rw York’s most outstanding restaurants.
We had a delightful evening. The service was both very professional and friendly. The food was imaginative, but not gimmicky. The room is very tasteful and pretty and good for quiet, relaxed conversation.
We really do love the restaurant!
Thanks to Fatima, Bruno, Gustavo, Kevin Miguel Johan...adrian
and of course Marco.
I live in Chicago and come to Toqueville about 1x a year, often to celebrate a special occasion. Everything was very good, as usual. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and unpretentious.
After dining yesterday evening in Tocqeville, I can honestly say that I was blown away. So much so that I was lost for words after.
Upon entering I was greeted by the host and proceeded to sit at the bar. The bartender, Johan presented with with an exquisite cocktail menu and both drinks I ordered were fantasticly well balanced while appropriately priced!
The host offered a choice of tables in a beautiful dining room. My captain MD was the cutest and most wonderful in walking me through the menu and helping me select my meal. I ordered the risotto for starter and sea bass as my main. The food was delivered by this wonderful Irish gentleman named Peter, the service I received from him is really the best I've had in many moons and set the standard so high right from the off. If only all the service in every restaurant could be as good as it was from him, the world would be a better place! But really aside from that, every interaction I had with other staff members was exquisite, credit to them!
I was very impressed by the food and speed of service. I feel that I have said enough and anyone that has doubts about whether Tocqueville is the right opinion, I can confirm you will not be disappointed. Overall a truly breathtaking dinner and for sure I will be returning. Many thanks Tocqueville!
A very elegant dining room, great service and very good food! Even if the food was only okay, I would probably go back because the whole experience was so special.
It was my first time dining at Tocqueville and now it’s def on my favorites list. Hearty service, amazing food.. we all really enjoyed our dinner!
Very expensive, but for a transcendent foodie experience, it's worth every penny.
I chose this restaurant based on the reviews and it being a quieter place. To be fair, it was fairly quiet given the very busy and noisy area it is in. The food was disappointing and very overpriced for what it was. Service was good but fumbling at times, like being shown to the wrong table and being told that my guest had arrived when she had not.
